Yay! Happy birthday to Adian! Is 18 the age for adulthood in Russia? Cause I know it varies in different countries.

It's been a long time since there were any updates on Adian's condition...he was supposed to skate in the Magic on Ice show last weekend, and withdrew, and he is not at the test skates. I've seen clips of him skating, but I don't know if he can jump yet, after all this time. Is he going to be ready for the Grand Prix? I hate to think of him losing much more time, but of course, health comes before everything else. I just don't want this to turn into another Proklova situation...

yes it does not look good. I read on Elena Vaitsekhovskaia's blog that Adian's recovery has been very slow & difficult. That's the only info I heard of him in a long time.

Adian has been on my mind and I was also worried about him too. So I decided to ask a friend in Moscow, who always provides us with a lot of info. and this was her answer. I am so heartbroken for him At this point I really want him to concentrate on healing properly and get back to his full health and not worry about competitions, even if that means he needs to take a year off. There is something much more important at the stake.

Unfortunately the news is not very good. As you know, his injury is rather serious, it takes a lot of time to recover. He has been under treatment since January. Nevertheless, he didn't stop training (but without jumps), he consulted specialists and doctors. In May his new coach Elena Buianova said that they already had some ideas for new programs but they didn't start preparing them because Adian still had health problems. In summer he went to Italy with his new team and also had much ice practices here, in Russia. Buianova has recently given some interviews but she has never said a word about Adian, mostly told about Adelina Sotnikova. Around August Adian said that he was well and at the same time his name appeared in the list of participants of Magic on Ice. I don't know exactly what happened but just one day before the show he said that he wouldn't take part in it (perhaps he was replaced by Alexander Samarin in short order but it's just my guess). I asked him carefully what happened but he doesn't want to talk about it, and I don't want to disturb him anymore. All I managed to learn for the moment is that his recovery is very slow and hard, he still has problems with his spine and muscle and joint pain, he is prohibited of doing some physical activities. Maybe they hoped that he would be ready for skating at Magic on Ice, or maybe he recently aggravated his injury... There is no answer (( Adian also had to withdraw from so called Open Skates in Sochi this weekend (this is not a competition but something like this, every member of Team Russia has to skate his/her/their programs for specialists and then for spectators before starting new season). His team hopes that he will be ready for Grand Prix or at least for Russian Nationals in December. But they can't predict anything, the situation is very difficult. Perhaps Adian will have to miss this season. Or, at the worst... I just don't want to think about it. He is so young and talented... I just pray for him and hope that everything will be fine and he will have a great career ahead of him.

My gut feeling is that he will probably have to skip the GP at least. I just hope he's getting the best medical treatment and comes back when he is ready, however long it takes. I can't imagine that this will end his career...look at Plushenko, he's had all kinds of back problems & keeps coming back. What a cruel sport this can be.

I agree. He is so young and there is no reason to rush, Kolyada was 20 last year when he bursted into the scene. There is plenty of time for him, if he proceeds wisely. Plushenko's case has been in heavy in my mind, and if this quad craze continue (which is more than likely), I am afraid more will end up like him, starting at much younger age... I am definitely not excited about this prospective

I so agree. How many more talented skaters will we lose... is achieving an extra rotation in the air worth it really? I know it's a sport and the athletes will continue to risk their health regardless but there are limitations to what a human body can do I don't know ...sigh

Well, the writing was on the wall, no Adian on the GP.
