Group E, and Roma is dead already.
I think it is a wild card for any team(remember our WC?). Keep your finger crossed!

As for Italian foodies... homemade Minestrone, Prosciutto, Ravioli and Fettuccine with any sauce will do. No gelato but Grattachecca pleaseeee. Oh... Panna Cotta and Panettone (can't wait for Christmas time).

You're right. Gelato al cioccolato.

There is also a song with that title, "Gelato al cioccolato"
https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=kZSmbObUzZA

It's a fun song but now I desperately need an English translation! While searching for one (no luck, sad to say) I ran across this article about a ban on take-away food in Milan after midnight. Huh? The first part of the piece is about how you have to eat your gelato inside instead of strolling down the street happily licking away at your cone.

Sounds like the ban has been repealed but why on earth would anyone pass a law like that in the first place?

Haagen Dazs, an American ice cream company, has recently introduced their own line of gelato. This ad showed up on US television a few months ago; it's in Italian w/ English subtitles. Haven't seen it recently but it made me  the first time I saw it and it still cracks me up:

The ad features Gelato al stracciatella. Funny enough, I got addicted to stracciatella on a trip to Italy several years ago. As a result, will never try the Haagen Dazs version b/c NOTHING will ever taste as good as real Italian gelato!

Sorry to stray so far OT...maybe we need an Italian food thread, or one about favorite foods/cuisines in general. There was one a while ago for favorite junk foods...

Just read something interesting in my local football newspaper today. Del Piero move to play football in Indian League. I have no idea he is still playing. Very surprise to see such name as David James, Trezeguet and Ljungberg are playing there too.

It is sad, though. Because they have no other career aside from football. It's good when you are still young. But when you are this old, if you don't become a coach or a manager, and still continue to play...ahh... :bang:
For some reason I am glad that skaters usually retire at the age of 23-25. They still have time for college and other careers when they retire.

He's saying to her woman you're like chocolate ice cream, sweet and a bit salty (which is weird for an ice cream) and things like that.
It's a silly song but very popular in those days.

That was a stupid idea. Because in Navigli there are a lot of bars and houses.
People who lives in that area might have pushed for that stupid rule. I understand they are fed up with all the noises etc., but it's not like you don't allow people to eat gelato outside and the problem is resolved. People do stay out, without eating anything, during the summer and talk with laud voice, laugh etc.

That's funny.
I usually love our commercials about food, pasta in particular. They look like work of arts.
I don't like Barilla, I love and use De Cecco and Voiello, but this is so beautiful.

The voice is that of Giancarlo Giannini - a great italian actor, who does Pacino's voice as well in his films in Italy - with Derek Walcott's poem.

The time will come when, with elation you will greet yourself arriving at your own door, in your own mirror and each will smile at the other's welcome, and say, sit here. Eat.
You will love again the stranger who was your self.
Give wine. Give bread. Give back your heart to itself, to the stranger who has loved you all your life, whom you ignored for another, who knows you by heart.
Take down the love letters from the bookshelf, the photographs, the desperate notes, peel your own image from the mirror.
Sit. Feast on your life.”

I should open a topic about commercials.

LRK Sweden will be back in action tomorrow night! :yay: Are you going to watch? Zlatan also is back after injury. Just scored hat-trick the other day with PSG. Couldn't find any news on your team at all.

Who will be watching Germany VS Argentina tonight?

Good Heavens, no! If I were going to make exceptions, it wouldn't be for Sweden, I can assure you! But wishing Zlatan the best, though - glad he seems in form.

Let me do the duty then. ;) I'm officially off the Team England. I've been on their team since Euro88, now it seems it's time to say good-bye. I'm boarding Team Sweden's train from now on even they're going to make it or not. But I hope they'll be their at the Final since I'll be in Paris for the tournament. Apart from the obvious (Zlatan of course), I'm a big fan of the young Kristoffer Peterson who sadly my team sold to Ultrecht last week.

Also I wish Brazil well since they got their senses straight and pull Coutinho back into the team.
