I would imagine just like how they protected Wagner last season at SA by giving Ashley as weak of competition as possible so she would make the GPF they will do the same for Gracie. Ashley was in the 2 weakest events and was almost guaranteed a spot in the GPF. But there is no excuse not to win a GP or make the final. She's almost 19 now and has the experience so that can't be used as a excuse. Girls much younger like Lip and even Anna have won and they are much younger.

From the fans? She ws many times written off, only on this forums how often!

The luck of Carolina it was that she was not in a poweful FS country. She had little competition inside her homeland, so that garanteed her the support of the federation even after some not so great seasons.

For Gracie is a little bit different. USA is powerful, new skaters are coming every year and you have to be at the top to keep on the first spot to get all the support from her federation. Ashley was hurt a tad by not being the first in USA anymore.

But i don't think one bad season would bring the fall from grace for Gracie. Two seasons - that would be another story.

Every skater that's participated has an Olympic gold.

They invited Weir and Kwan, who don't, but both of them are still worlds away from Gracie

Yes but Carolina was skating for Italy. They had no other skater good enough, so she was " allowed" to fall, again and again, and still compete.

I think this is Gracie's year to shine as the top US lady. For her sake, I hope she medals during her GP events.

I expect that by 2016, Polina will have surpassed Gracie as the top US lady.

She's been the "next big thing" for 2 seasons now--it's time she becomes the actual big thing. I think it might be problematic to her reputation if she doesn't step it up after the new retirements. Hopefully Frank will do his magic. We'll see.

I mean honestly I only kind of understand this thread. If she wins no GP's, nothing happens to her. Her parents and USAFSA envelopes keep funding her and she keeps skating. She is still top 2 at Nationals. I dont' see anything changing unless someone rises up to challenge her, and I don't see that happening, at least next year. Would be happy to be proven wrong, though

I would say she still has chances in Skate America and Canada.

Again, a reminder that SOTNIKOVA was "the next big thing" in Russia for 3 seasons without ever winning a GP event.
