Best: Kwan's Flamenco costume from 96 Us and world's. Just went with the music and the color and style were so appropriate and completed the package. Love it. Michelle herself made a comment about it's effectiveness in one interview.

Worst: Bauil's pink costume from 94 Olympics. Utterly awful.

Totally loved Michelle's Lyra Angelica. Simplicity usually wins out with me over bling. And I hated the ice dance dresses that came down past the calves. You couldn't see their feet. I think that's why I haven't cared for the skirt part on most of Tessa's dresses - they're just too long and you can't really catch the movement of the legs. Nobody has mentioned Ilia Kulik's giraffe shirt in awhile. Ick. Always liked G&G's costumes. They were pretty simple. And really liked Sale and Pelletier's Oly "Love Story" costumes. Fit the music.

Kevin Van Der Perren's costumes were some of the worst imo. Of course, Yagudin's "One Banana" is in a (no) class of its own. The Skatingfugly Tumblr page has some gems:

As for the best? I think the Japanese ladies generally tend to dress well - I even like most of Miki Ando's costumes, but I might be alone on that. Mao's "Scherezade" and her LP dress this year were two of my favorites. I liked most of Sasha Cohen's costumes as well. For the men, Daisuke's LP costume from 2010 was very stylish imo.

Great site; thanks. Reminds me of when Tom and Lorenzo would critique the skaters' costumes.

Some others popped up while I was searching Google for her costumes...now these are tragic!

Holy hockey pucks, what was the designer smoking? The real tragedy is that he/she probably spent hours creating those outfits -- and probably charged an extortionate price to boot. But they're still not in the same league w/ "One Banana."

OTOH, whatever anyone thinks about Nancy Kerrigan's skating, I thought she looked terrific in the 2 dresses Vera Wang did for her for the '94 Olys. Simple, sleek, elegant, and altogether classy, IMO. Loved them both.

Thanks again for the giggles, gallavich!

One of the things about the 80's and early 90's era dresses that crack me up are either shoulder pads or anything else puffy sleeved. It was an ugly trend to begin with, but I really can't imagine going through such an athletic event with all that crud around the shoulders.

^ And I was going to start a thread suggesting the return of shoulder pads to costuming. That would have been embarrassing.

I may stand my ground on puffy shirts! Lets be real here.

Please do! I'd love to see what you get. I personally am anti-puff, but I may only be the only one. :)

Omg, haha!! Maybe my opinion on puff stems from the fact that my mother did that to me

I'll let a little puff hate go, but please don't promote excessive use of feathers on costumes. That's just no bueno.

Costumes look really different in person than how they look on television and also in terms of how they look in movement compared to how they look still. Some costumes can look terribly garish in person but look fine on television/in movement, and others that look beautiful in person can look askew on television/in movement.

I think it tends to be the less imaginative dresses that end up looking beautiful both on and off television, while the ones with more daring designs/colors can end up being utter disasters on television.

I have not seen Caro's Scheherazade dress in person. On television, it looks awful, but I am willing to bet it looks ravishing on her when you see it with your eyes.
