if I may offer a third opinion ^^
piano recitals - horror. hated that, almost died every time. nothing nice about that.
volleyball tournament - what do I care. I just go out there and play.
I guess with me it's a group-thing :) playing with a team, I always felt sort of 'protected', if that makes any sense. but being alone out there in the spotlight... hated it (thank God my recital days are behind me)

I know that feeling of feeling protected. I competed in a chorus ^^ but It's funny because for me also was more stressful because I needed to worry not only about me but also about the other members >< I really prefer to participate alone and I enjoy it more too

Or you didn´t care as much about volley?

Maybe is about not being the center of attention...

That's true, that can be the downside. Maybe I was lucky. Most of the time I felt like: we win together or we lose together, either way I don't have to do it alone.

Oh, I cared a bit  a lot of sweat, blood and broken bones were sacrificed. I'd say that counts.

It was probably more that second thing for me ;)

Today at random, I was bored and browsed some videos on youtube on Yuzuru's performances when he was competing as a novice to a junior. The growth of his skating is incredible each year!! :agree: He also jumped a bunch of triples at such a young age, he's truly a prodigy.

Here are some videos throughout the years:

Enjoy!! (I also posted this in the media thread)

Lol watching the video's back to back I realized that 11 year old Yuzu had a good flip and solid inside edge, then when he turned 12 the lip demon appeared ;) Its improved a great deal now and not so obvious but man....the edge is strong with the flip  And I always enjoy watching his MI2 SP, especially the choreograph that follows his 3F cause it fits in with the music so well. Maybe he'll do something similar this season with his LP? :yay:

Thank you for these~ It's been a while

@echotpe Flawless taste. :points:

I'll see what I can do ^^

over here they seem to have a knack for strange picture choices  I remember people asking, why of all photos taken in Sochi, they would chose this one for an online article. can't really argue with that.

It seem like the picture is taked by a member of their staff (Carmichael), same goes for other editions before. Maybe they don´t sent a photographer to the event, they just send a reporter, give him a Camera and off you go.

Parmina, if I´m correct figure skating is not very popular in Germany (my not educated guess is that F1 and soccer are), maybe they do it to cut cost.

Hehe, a part of me wants you not to buy that magazine to "punish" the editors for their, as you say, "strange picture choices" (you should also be their photo editor!). But I'm also curious to know whether the cover article has some new insights on Yuzuru other than what we already know. Anyway, maybe you can check it out first if it's worth buying for that reason (certainly not because of the cover). Thanks Pamina!

I guess you might have a point. I just always have a hard time believing, that even amongst the 'cheap shots' there wouldn't be anything better than, well - that
And you are right about soccer :rolleye: oh, how I am looking forward to this summer...the joy...

I'm currently in the middle of nowhere, there's no way I could get a look at it around here... but I might have ordered it already because I have serious self-control issues (not sure if it's still worth consulting a doctor about that). But from what I can see on the website there might be one or two interesting things inside, and it's not really all that pricy *trying to justify stupidity*
but I wouldn't hold my breath regarding anything newsworthy about Yuzuru (call it a gut feeling ;))

Actually David Carmichael is professional figure skating photographer, I bet you've seen a lot of pictures by him. In 2006 he was recommended by the ISU to cover Torino Olympics as a specialist photographer

Here he is with Yuzuru and Mao at GPF 2013 banquet

Ok, then my next guess would be that they are just being mean and choose the weird pictures on purpose  I refuse to believe that any photo editor would actually think that those are good shots (but I just remembered the discussion in the Yuna Kim Vogue thread, so :rolleye: never mind)

Speaking of David Carmichael, he had this moment with Yuzuru after the latter just won the 2013 GPF, beating Patrick Chan who had soundly trounced him in Skate Canada and TEB earlier in the season. After Yuzuru's interview in the K & C, David Carmichael told him "Great job, great job..same in Paris" and then kissed Yuzuru's hand, a sign that skating now has a new sovereign.

Yuzuru (at this act of homage): "It's OK." (laughs)
David Carmichael (in a protesting tone): "Ah-ha! I meant it!"

(https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=oZSujLWf0jA#t=291; starting 4:51)

And then later in the video, in another "act of homage" ;), a fan drops a stuffed toy on Yuzuru's head in an attempt to give it to him (5:04).

He actually also congratulated Yuzu after FS at Worlds. I actually wondered  who is he, because I also saw him in GPF congratulating to Yuzuru

Well, there is an article of Yuzu in Sport graphic Number #852 (15-May published). They also had a different angle of young man. I just scan it for you all.

article: http://number.bunshun.jp/articles/-/816469
photo: https://scontent-a.xx.fbcdn.net/hphotos-ash3/t1.0-9/10345560_10203114359514838_3282437042582069413_n.jpg

What a shot! I can see his strength and determination. Unblinking gaze, eyes fixed on the prize. Nothing soft about this photo. A young man, no longer a boy.

Thanks for sharing echotpe!
