And this is....?? Yuzuru as a squid?? Lol so many questions....

Yes, he says he's editing for the first time. -He may have just done a bit of editing or done the whole thing, it doesn't say. He says he wants to add another quad, so I think if it's ready, he'll put it in.

Because his name is 結弦, written ゆづる in hiragana. One of the prononciation for 弦 (bowstring) is つる (tsuru) but in this case with another kanji before, it's become づる (zuru).

In fact ゆづ or ゆず, it's the same sound (or at least in university we didn't make any difference).
But ゆず (yuzu) it's the fruit 柚子, not the same at all^^.
But since our yuzu and the fruit are homonymes, it gives a lot of funny fanarts...and a lot of fan loves products with the yuzu citrus fruit scent or taste

    - チャン選手やフェルナンデス選手に負けた次の試合は飛躍している。
    「負けた悔しさや、ミスした自分への怒り。そういうものがあるから、頑張れるのかも。

    Q. You have made a remakable leap in the next competition after defeated to Chan and Fernandez.
    A. I may be able to work hard because of such feelings of disappointment suffering from a loss, as well as anger toward myself.

Just IMO, but a great leap after a defeat may be the point here.

    - NHK杯の演技後は「絶対王者なんだ」という発言もあったが。
    「あれは言い間違い。『絶対王者になるんだ』と言いたかったのに。

    Q. Why did you call yourself the "absolute champion" after your performance at NHK Trophy?
    A. I said it wrongly. I wanted to say "I'm gonna become the absolute champion"

I think he said, "絶対王者" (zettai ohja - absolute champion)になる。- to become the absolute champion.
Not 絶対に”王者”になる - to become a champion absolutely.

He is particular about this word "絶対王者 zettai ohja" always. And the zettai ohja in his mind is, needless to say, Plushenko.

But please note that the above is just my impression.

No one has mentioned this yet, an interesting fact: Yuzu's costumes are supposed to be featured on male mannequins. But he is so thin, the museum curator just can't get the costumes on the male mannequins They had no choice but to use female mannequins instead and had to roll layers of fabrics around the breast to avoid showing the cleavage.
    That's hilarious.

No wonder in the past he always looked like a kid in his dad's cloth whenever he had to dress in suits. Not only does he need taylor made suits, he needs taylor made mannequins as well

Similar to melmel's great edit of Ballade no 1 to New World Symphony, I edited his MOI 'Requiem of Heaven and Earth' to this beautiful and flowing Ravel piece about a ship sailing on the ocean. His effortless glide, the rise and fall of his movements, the contrast between serenity and crashing waves, the tragedy and anguish, the hope, his costume, the oceanic blue light, all of it comes together really nicely. He becomes the physical and emotional embodiment of water.

If you take a look, I'd love to get feedback. I don't have permission from the uploader Japan Figure Skating so please don't reupload it anywhere. I'm still in search of a HD video source to use so I can upload it publicly because it was originally just made for my own viewing pleasure, but I thought the results turned out unexpectedly good so I'd just like to share them with the small group of people here on GS

I've also been trying to edit some of his programs to Ravel's Lever du jour (imagine a 4T+3T starting around 0:55!), but it's much harder!

    Yuzu's comments:
Getting the chance to play the role of the feudal lord of Date (Sendai area) at the movie set in Sendai domain in Edo Period, “Tono, Risoku de gozaru” ((“Feudal lord, It’s interest” .. funny title  )), I played as an actor for the first time. In the play, I had no choreography, but used words, and needed to act with dialogue, unlike skating. It was very difficult. I got nervous at the filming location, but could feel the film making and meet the wonderful actors. I enjoyed. The shoot was done in last summer. I think I could make use of this valuable experience to not only my programs at the competitions, but the exhibitions and the ice shows, as a performer.
I heard that this movie was based on the real story. I’m surprised that we have such a fine story in my hometown Sendai. I did my best to express the gap between the full-blown dignity and the tenderness as the feudal lord. Please look forward to it.

Sadao Abe (lead player)’s comments (part of):
Who plays the feudal lord had been withheld for long, so we actors tried to predict it. We never expected Hanyu-san. I met him on the day of shooting in full costume for the first time. Only after the rehearsal at the filming location, we played it by ear. Nevertheless, his dialogue was perfect. It was amazing.
We kept looking at him with a smile. (smile) He was beautiful. (smile)

    Yuzuru Hanyu:
I have had the opportunity to participate as an actor for the first time in this movie, “My Lord, it is the interest!” which is about the people of the Sendai Domain. It takes place during the Edo Period. I played the part of Lord Datte. Unlike figure skating, there was nobody to choreograph my moves for me, and I had to think about how to move as I recited my lines. This was very difficult, and I was nervous when we were shooting my parts. However, it was a lot of fun because I was given the opportunity to interact with these wonderful actors and was able to experience first hand what it’s like to be involved in the production of a movie. We shot the movie last summer.

I think I learned some things from this experience which I have been able to use to improve the artistry in my competitive programs, programs for ice shows as well as my exhibition numbers. The plot is based on a true story. I had no idea there was such a wonderful story from my home prefecture, Miyagi. I have done my best to convey the contradictory attributes of my character which is a blend of authority and kindness. I hope you enjoy the movie!

    Sadao Abe (actor):
They wouldn’t tell us who was playing the part of the Lord, and the actors were all speculating who it would be. Never in our wildest dreams did we think it would be Yuzuru Hanyu-san. We never saw him until the day of the shooting and he was already dressed and ready. He had all his lines memorized perfectly and he was wonderful. Ordinary people were not supposed to look at their Lord directly and they would have been told that their *head was too high*, but I couldn’t help but stare at him smiling the whole time. (laughter) He was beautiful. (laughter). I don’t think he wears a lot when he’s performing on the ice, but he had to wear a full Haori Hakama (the Kimono) and even wear a wig. It must have been really hot/warm! He never complained despite the fact that we had to keep doing numerous takes. He left me with the impression that he is a world class athlete.

    Yoshihiro Nakamura (Director):
Because we cast illustrious actors and actresses, we needed someone who would be convincing playing the part of their “Lord=someone above and beyond them”. This was difficult and it took a long time for us to find the right person for this. Finally, someone suggested we cast Yuzuru Hanyu. Hanyu-san was undoubtedly someone who would have been perceived by anyone as someone ‘above and beyond’ everyone, and an added bonus was that he was from Miyagi Prefecture. We felt that, in his past, his ancestors might have had something to do with Lord Date. The way he moved and comported himself as well, his clear voice, and his piercing stare was perfect for this role, and he played it in a very convincing manner. Let me add that *our* Lord of the Sendai Clan has conquered not only Sendai, but all of Japan and even the world, so we were very lucky to be able to cast him. I felt it was too much of an honour that he agreed to do this for us.

    Fumitsugu Ikeda (Producer):
I’ve heard that it was pretty much impossible for normal town folk to meet their Lord during the Edo Period. However, it is recorded in writing that Lord Date met the citizens of Yoshiokajuku. How surprised were these ordinary townsfolk when their Lord showed up in person?

Yuzuru Hanyu’s presence was so striking that it even stunned Sadao Abe and the all star cast of character actors from his guild. The Director blurted out that Hanyu-san must be an actor. We didn’t think it would be possible to get Hanyu-san to play this role and we sent the offer thinking it would be rejected. However as a result of our (crazy idea) our national hero has agreed to grace the silver screen. His presence was so overwhelming it even left our top class actors somewhat stunned.

This casting was a closely kept secret until the day of the shoot. You should have seen their faces, when he entered the area, after we had finished rehearsals, in his elegant and stunning wardrobe. The faces of the actors must have looked just like those of the townsfolk when their Lord showed up unexpectedly.
This movie will make you laugh and cry. It is a period piece and true story, which didn’t see the light of day for 250 years. You can see the roots of the good behaviour of the Japanese after the earthquake, in this story.

The story unfolds in Sendai, which is Yuzuru Hanyu’s hometown. I have been told that Hanyu-san agreed to do this, if it would help Sendai in any small way. I have the utmost respect for his desire to help his hometown as well as his ability to act on this desire. On the other hand, I was also impressed by his thirst to acquire knowledge and use everything he could to further (his skating). He was asking everyone questions. I bow my head to the ‘King of the World’. [t/n. This just means the No. 1 skater, and he’s using language like this because it’s something like a pun in this context]

“My Lord, it is the interest!” is an unusual movie, but now you know who this ‘Lord’ is. Please do come to the cinemas to watch his wonderful performance.

Yuzuru Hanyu – The First Time Ever? SP 120?

A very special Valentine Day’s Chocolate was presented to Yuzuru Hanyu.

Yuzuru Hanyu (Figure Skater) participated in LOTTE’s Ghana Chocolate Valentine’s Day Event. He was given a special, skating rink themed, Valentine’s Day chocolate cake.

Photograph: Yuzuru Hanyu strikes the same pose as the Yuzuru doll on the cake.

Yuzuru was very happy to see the cake and said: Wow! This is just wow! He then, approached the cake and looked at it from all angles.

When asked to give the cake a score, he laughed and said: “120! This is a score nobody has ever achieved in the SP so far.”

Regarding the figurine of himself made from sugar he said: “The costume has been made correctly (detail wise) and I’m standing there on a rink made from white chocolate alone, which is similar to when I’m in a competition.”

Asked about his oldest Valentine’s Day memory he said: “My mother and sister have been giving me chocolate ever since I can remember.”
My sister isn’t that much older than me so what they gave me were simple things, but they tasted good and I have some pleasant memories of Valentine’s Day.

Yuzuru expressed his feelings of gratitude saying: Lately, we haven’t been doing this, but I receive a lot of Valentine’s Day gifts via my Present Box now. Whatever way it’s conveyed, I am always very happy to know that you care for me.

I would like to return everyone’s sentiments by performing well and getting good results, because you are all cheering me on.

I’ve found lots of obstacles I need to overcome this season. I am doing my best to grow a lot as a skater. I hope you will keep cheering me on. I will do my best to cheer you all on (in whatever you are doing in your life) by performing well!

    Something along the lines of:
Female Hero: Nishikori is best because he's manly and will be like an escort.

Male Hero: But Nishikori wouldn't go souvenir shopping...he'd be like 'I'll wait outside'

    FH: You can't know that!

MH: I can! Hanyu seems like he'd look at stuff with me. No, he would! And It would be great to ride the rides with him.
Nishikori would get bored in the line and make me nervous.

FH: No he wouldn't, he has practice with long tennis matches, he has good concentration.

MH: No, he doesn't have interests outside tennis. Hanyu likes Pooh-san.

FH: Nishikori would give a kiss when in the dark attractions (rides where everything goes dark for a bit).

MH: What, no fair...then Hanyu would too...well, Hanyu wouldn't. He wouldn't.

    FH:That's right. He wouldn't.

    MH: It's so difficult!

    Nishikori-kun, Hanyu-kun, I can't choooose.

This anime is telling a story about a 13 years old girl skater who lost her mother in 311 earthquake and now lives with her father, a fisher. She practiced skating before earthquake but seemed not in good shape. She felt frustrated when looking the ambitious slogan on the wall: Be a champion!

After earthquake, the girl received a fresh new photo via "Picture Restoration Project" who fix the damaged photos for earthquake survivors since 2011. She recalled the day when her mother dress her a magic ribbon on hair. What a happy moment! She got the courage to take more efforts in practice. In the finale, the girl step on ice for competition with a same ribbon her mother dressed her.

Yuzu said this is an anime which made him thinking much. He watched the video many times and recall many things every time...

In the video, Yuzu is impressed with the ribbon parts: the girl received it from her mother before earthquake and in the end, she dress the same ribbon on ice, just like her mother watching her skating from heaven.
"Picture Restoration Project" is an activity that is very warm heart and collaboration worldwide. Recommend to read this article for more information - In Japan, Restoring Photos For Tsunami Victims

Edit to add: Thank you to his family, all his coaches (BOrser, Nanami Abe, Tsuzuki, coaches when he was younger and Pooh), his teams (Mrs Kobayashi, Mr. Kikuchi, etc), his friends, his fans and everyone that has helped & supported him throughout his journey as a skater and a person.

2nd edit to add: I forgot to add Tracy Wilson, choreographers (Jeffrey Buttle, David Wilson, Shae, Russian team for R&J1), Nanami's husband Yoshida-san & people of Sendai, his team mates, JSF/TCC, photographer Sunao Noto, his idols & senpais.....I'm sure there are many more people that I've missed or behind the scene who has supported Yuzu in his journey.

I can't imagine how much pressure it must have been with all the media following him around and wanting to ask him a million question everytime he enters the venue. So I felt really proud of him to take control of the situation and not to be carried away with all the media distraction.

I enjoyed all the posts reminiscing experiences watching Yuzuru win the gold medal in Sochi. I became a fan after watching his 2012 Worlds LP, but it was upon watching this video some time later that I just had this clear presentiment that this boy would be Olympic champion in Sochi. Maybe the author of that video also thought the same because the way it was made seemed to point out that he was destined for great things. For me, it was sweet to see him achieve his heart's desire in Sochi after working so hard training in a foreign land. I could relate because I was then a homesick (very) graduate student.

Now that 4CC is over Japan tv is back to airing lots of Yuzu clips.

Shoma talks about what path to take, compliments Boyang for his amazing jumps but says, I'll never be able to be like that, so the path that I must take is more to be a all-around skater, like Yuzu-kun and get good PCS and GOEs.

I cannot point my toe at all in the Risport RF2 Supers I have, or the Edea Concertos. Period. Edea has improved the Concerto by lowering the back a little and padding it, but the Ice Fly is still rather high (this is what Hanyu wears).
Edea is made by the people who used to own Risport, so it doesn't surprise me that the two share some design characteristics (how they look is irrelevant compared to how they "fit," IMO).
    In another comment, he said:
I have Risport and Edea boots here... And there is no way you can flex those boots that way... This is why Edea added the padding to the Concerto, they were absolutely horrible until they added that.
Of course in theory Yuzuru can still try to point his toe even without the boots he is using but he has many other issues to pay attention to.

This is the original interview with Aliev and here are Yuzuru related parts translated by Marina Khevkh from YHIFG
This year made many experienced skaters get down to the ground thanks to the incredible skating of Yuzuru Hanyu and six quads of Jin Boyang. What are your thought about it as a junior?
    - Yes, this is the supreme elite of figure skating. Yuzuru Hanyu, Patrick Chan, Javier Fernández they skate at unimaginable level, and I have no choice. I have only one thing to do, to try achieving the same results somehow. I am driven to figure skating that’s why I don’t feel fear when I see Hanyu.
-Jumping like him so organic, naturally in program is this reality, is it achievable?
    - It is necessary to set goals, but do not look forward to see what happens.
Masters like Patrick and Yuzuru know what to do . They "kill" not even after entering the ice; they do it already in the warm-up. We, juniors, look up to them and try to do the same. To put out the rival is necessary before entering the rink on warm up. Even his look may affect another skater, but usually we try not to face the eyes.
I am not a skater of that level yet, Yuzuru Hanyu has so many records, right now there is almost no competition for him, but when a rival appears, he wont stop and wait, he will do something new, because he is the highest level., and he will not give what belongs to him I am still far from this company of world figure skating.
So which one to chase Northug or Hanyu? (Petter Northug Jr. is a Norwegian cross country skier Dima's idol)
They're both incredible, two superior in different sports. Well ... it's hard to answer. Yuzuru Hanyu – insane level. Petter Northug - crazy level. Difficult question.

This video "Applause" by Axel yuzu (https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=McA14Fcv6AA) joins the long list of Yuzu videos that I watch when I need inspiration or to just simply smile. It contains moments from the 2015 NHK and 2015 GPF. In these competitions Yuzuru fulfilled almost all the expectations we fans have of him as well as confounded his constant fault finders and nitpickers (distinguishing them from those who give thoughtful, constructive criticism), who since then I feel have been on the back foot. Moments too that make me feel being a Yuzuru fan is all worth it. Gives me hope too for more timeless moments like these from Yuzuru in the future.

ETA: Many thanks and more power to the creators of these videos.

Now I believe he has started his Chi no niZUmuyouna renshu - bloody (grueling) practice in Canada in his Under Armour.

This is correctly Chi no niJImuyouna, but Yuzuru was so excited after NHK FS, he said it wrongly in the interview.

Replacing the 'Ji' with 'Zu' is a northern accent isn't it? In Akita at least the country folk all replace 'Ji' with 'Zu' very cute that Yuzu did it.

I personally like it because it's super interesting to watch. even the emphasis on certain beats is different from competition to competition.
The opposite of this approach is someone like Fred Astaire who would perform exactly the same way every time, even if you put his performances side-by-side it's difficult to tell the difference. (I love Fred's approach to dancing as well)

He says he likes yudofu (tofu) and when he was young, one of his first nick-names was konnyaku, a gelatin-like food made from mountain potatoes. -Due to his flexibility (and floppiness?)

Shizuka says he does give the impression of konnyaku and someone who eats tofu, but at the same time how does he have so much energy?
Yuzu says he runs on adrenaline.

Yuzu: When I was little I loved spinning. Hino and Han Yan, my contemporaries and rivals were very fast at spinning. When you are little you can spin quickly. Around that time I met Stephane Lambiel at the Katsuyama rink (where Lambiel was doing a show Champions on Ice)
When my hair was 'like this'.
At that time I loved to spin, or rather spinning was my strategy, at that time my Beilman was properly fast. I practiced spinning with Lambiel and got a lot of input at that time.

They share a similar ethos of the importance of keeping in shape for jumps, so they can be used within a program (or EX) as appropriate. Both of them do not like to have jumps as separate from the program. It must be seamlessly added along with spins and all other elements.
Shizuka says in her training she puts highest importance on skating skills, it is the most important thing...and you can tell right away if a skater hasn't been keeping up with the training. She wants to show people who come to watch her skate that her level is still up there, whether they like jumps or whether they like the other parts of skating.

    What a cool lady!

    What interested me;

He likes Yu-dofu (Boiled tofu) and Mizutaki (Hot pot generally with chicken, seafood, vegetables). He is fond of Sujouyu (soy sauce with rice vinegar, or citron juice - maybe Yuzu) They are all so simple taste ones, without much calories. It is natural Arakawa-san wondered why Yuzuru had such stamina to do good performance to the end.

    https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=7lSTmVrW6Yk

He likes edge jumps more than toe jumps His first triple jump succeeded was Salchow.

It was so nice to hear Yuzuru calling Arakawa-san "Shii-chan"

He decided to "Seimei" because he liked the Japanese flute sound and "Douse Kuge-gao dashi." - After all, I know I have a court noble face.

Kuge-gao (court noble face) in Japanese has both good and bad meanings; noble, fine-featured, pale, flat-faced, featureless, etc.

    Typical Kuge-gao: https://www.sogo-seibu.jp/hina2016/?medium=listing

Once he said he was not Samurai type. I think he is watching himself very objectively.
But, when I see his fierce side, I'm sure he can perform a young samurai as well. I want to see Mori Ranmaru (Oda Nobunaga's page) type samurai

    It was very touching.

The TV show 'recreated' the gym of the school which was the evacuation center for Yuzu's area and he explained about how everyone lived.
They set up the sleeping mats, porta-toilets and boxes of food. The rice was reconstituted with cold water so the rice was very hard.
Yuzu's family gave him a whole rice-ball to eat because he was growing. He said it was so good, he ate very slowly and felt full afterward.

He also visited a man whose house was next to the ocean and gutted by the Tsunami. He is going to leave his house as it is to show people, even after all the other signs of the devastation are gone, about what had happened there.

As many people have known, Yuzu performed over 60 shows to practice his new season programs, because his home rink was damaged by earthquake at that time. Today, a twitter forward this video again. Let's enjoy his "White Legend" and see how Arakawa cutely introduced him in English."

I noticed he was circling around when talking looks like he wanted to address everyone in the arena

Talking about hobby, Yuzu was easily amused by himself.

    Dialouge:
Arakawa: Last time (in 2013), you mentioned you were an earphonilia (or audiophile). Any change in your hobby now?
Yuzu: No. I'm still loving earphones.
Arakawa: Really? Any evolution in earphones?
Yuzu: Yeah... maybe evolution in PRICE~~~

Here is a humorous bit from Nobu's weekly (?) sports show. In sports news, they talk about Yuzu's acting debut and Nobu says (jokingly of course) the part should have come to me! I'm older and everyone knows that I have the experience in this kind of thing!!
They ask people on the street who they think could be a better 'Tono'. This is Kansai region by the way, where Nobu comes from so he has a lot of support here. So they ask people on the street and the first one to get 15 votes wins.
