Is there any problem.." Yuzu said" yeah, it started to hurt beginning of this year" TV crew asked again" After WC which is the planned timing of this program to be aired, is it OK to release this information. Are you going to tell about this after the WC" Yuzu said " Well, I don't know. Maybe not."

Yuzuru's diagnosis has been reported from ANA.

He has "Lisfranc joint ligament damage" (左足リスフラン関節じん帯損傷) and needs 2 months to recover completely.
He'll stay in Toronto for treatment. ANA will report on his progress again in mid-May.

I hope for a full recovery before he even thinks about doing ice shows. Odaijini Yuzuru!

I hope Yuzu is not pressured to skate in the shows. Sometime I wonder whether his team decided the treatment to be in Toronto to avoid the pressure in Japan by organisers, sponsors etc.
This translation is not accurate. She(the twitterer), not FaOI organizer, asks people who bought the ticket not to resell the tickets.

The Toronto-based Hanyu, who finished second in last month’s world championships, will not return to Japan, remaining in Canada for treatment. His corporate sponsor, ANA, plans to report on his progress in mid-May.

Since the start of this past season, Hanyu was dealing with pain in his left foot, which grew worse from January.

Because of the stress that toe loops place on the left foot, Hanyu was compelled to switch from a quad toe loop to a quad Salchow at the worlds, which he was looking to win for the first time in two seasons."

"The official announcement by ANA skating club was made in receipt of yuzu's direct contact to them.

In addition to the report of his injury yesterday, ANA says he is going to concentrate on the treatment in Toronto without coming back to Japan.
Further, about ice shows, they have the view that he’ll keep from ice shows for the time being, and will report about his condition around the middle of May."

I'm so relieved that the official announcement about ice shows was disclosed. It's not good for him that any speculation about his show's schedule continues among funs or so.

I guess he won't be there to receive it if it's on in early June again. Not that it's important, but it would have been nice to see him mingle with the men's gymnastics team.

The photos were taken after the Worlds Gala.
Yuzu was aware of the lighting and when told that the theme was 'smart and intellectual' was able to respond to it immediately.
He also was considerate of the short time available to interview and take photos so he spoke quickly.

All magazines were gone within the first day.

The organizers said that his photoshoot was difficult because Yuzu is so well known, they had to choose photo locations carefully so as not to be mobbed.
They invite you to pose in the same way Yuzu posed in these locations while apologizing at the same time...(because it's not going to be the same.)

The topics interest me are follows.
    ------------

Why could both Javi and yuzu be over 300?

“Many people think quads and triple axel are important, but my views are different. PCS and GOE are important. It’s the same strategy as yuna’s at 2010 Olympics.”

Don't you think it necessary to add more quad?

“I don’t think so until now. Yuzu practices 4 loop, so he may want to keep it for his motivation of practice. However, if he should adapt 4 loop in competitions, he would need high success ratio with high quality. In yuzu case, if he skates perfectly, he can get more scores, and I think it would be the better choice as a skater.”

    How about this season?
“Yuzu was a big star at GPS serious. This time, he sharply dropped at the latter half and it was much frustration, so there is a strategy which makes his peaking later.”

    About rivals
“I couldn’t take my eyes off Patrick’s improvement. It’s certain he has marvelous skating ability. Further, Boyang. He can get total of 6 quads. I can’t say but genius. He’ll develop more.”

    About the strategy towards 2018
“First, it’s important the strategy of music. The music of next season has the possibility of continue till Olympic season, so you must be careful about the choice to the same extent as Olympics.
David and I’ve already started searching music and are considering which piece would be fit for which skater.
On the contrary, next year is the last season you can do some challenge as yuna did. She chose “ Die Fledermaus” two years before the Olympics but failed since Classics didn’t match her. Then she changed her way and finally could reach that “007”

Just hope for the both two about the best programs
“Thank you. The two already seem to look forward new programs. Team Brian will jump up next season also.”

(Please note the above is yuzu centric summery. I'm sure someone will give full translation.)

Q: Other thing that surprises me about your sport. You train with your biggest rival, don’t you? How Brian Orser can handle to train both of you? I guess he trains you in the same way, he says that he’s like a father for you. How is it to train with your rival, at the same ice rink, the same hours?
A: Figure skating is a sport which we don’t have to compete face to face, you compete against yourself, and then the judges decide who wins. We use our way of training together as benefit for our trainings. Yuzuru learns things from me, I learn things from him, if he strives more then I try too. We use this situation as something positive to improve even more.

"Let’s start with that: close your eyes for a couple of seconds – and think about the biggest moments of this year’s edition of the Worlds. What do you see? I see (and almost hear) Yuzuru Hanyu’s roar before the step sequence in his Chopin short program, and then again, I hear him yelling once the routine has ended, relieved, exhaling pressure – "

    Finale part of the article:
I (Yuzu) recovered myself from losing the world champion soon and had a refresh looking to the future. That's because I'm confident in getting growth after a bitter result.
Comparing to prior season, I made quite much progress this season. I felt of nothing improved in the post-Sochi season. However, I indeed got much evolution in the following year. This kind of pattern gives me much of expectation in 2016-2017 season.
I will have new Short & Free programs. In my ideal of figure skating, all technical elements should be integrated into music as a whole one. So this is the very important consideration when new choreography is made.
Figure skating is continually evolving in technical phase, that means only technical strength could not assured your win. So what's your competitive strength when skaters are reaching the same (or similar) technical difficulties? In my opinion, the skater's personality (or characteristic strength) will be vital. I expect the skater's personality probably more publicity than it is now, the era of personality competition in figure skating will come of it.

The radio interview of Noguchi Yoshie who is an author of King's Method:http://www.tfm.co.jp/beat/index.php?...726&catid=2263

The interesting parts for me is something like:
"Most Japanese often say, Let's go out and eat something tasty, but Hanyu-senshu is not interested in food at all."
"He practices、concentrating a lot, and when the practice is done, he just plays games or ぼーっとしてる(does nothing? daydreaming? I don't know how to translate)escaping reality,
so it's difficult to talk to him anyway(laugh)"

    - He was also surprised that Yuzu appeared to understand everything he said. He mentions that people often do not understand what he means especially if they are younger, but this wasn't the case with Yuzu.

    The article about his injury

SHIROTA Noriko, director of ANA responded to the interview and stated as follows.
“Now he is in the condition that he isn’t allowed to put on skating shoes. Quiet rest is the best thing.”
“He had some pain since around Skate Canada, then the injury got gradually serious.”
“I think his injury will recover completely just by taking rest.”

Maybe this information has already been shared here, but one of the main actors in the movie, Eita, apparently described Yuzuru in a magazine interview (S-style) as "beautiful as a life form" (生命体として美しい). So there was a hashtag going around called #生命体として美しい

Translated as much as I could, as a trial.
English is not my native language, so I'm sorry for inconvenience in advance.

    ------------------------------------ -------------------------------------
Subtitle 1: "Tono,Risoku de gozaru.": Talk show before the premiere
Subtitle 2: Sadao Abe praises Yuzuru Hanyu's acting

    0:44-
    Yuzu: I'm Shigemura.
    An actor (off-screen): My lord!
    Assistant director (off-screen): Cut!

    1:01-
    Yuzu: Where's Asanoya Jinnai?
    Asanoya: Here.
    Yuzu: And his brother Kokudaya?
    Kokudaya: Here.
Yuzu: I heard that you would never travel on horse or palanquin... (he stammers)...Sorry.
    Director: No problem, it's OK.

    Translator’s note:
Asanoya is a sake-brewer who lived in a small town named Yoshioka. People of Yoshioka was very poor for they had been harshly taxed by Sendai-government, so Asanoya and a few volunteers including his brother Kokudaya decided to lend their money to Sendai government with interest to help the people of their town. Having heard about Asanoya and his company, Shigemura wanted to see them, however Asanoya did not show up to his castle for he had pain in his legs and he despised traveling on a horse or on a palanquin for it gives others pain. So Shigemura came to Yoshioka, where most people had never met their lord.

    1:21-
MC: Mr. Abe, when did you come to know who would play the lord?
Sadao Abe (who plays Kokudaya): On the very day of the shooting, at the rehearsal. Until then I had no idea who would play Shigemura. We all had been wondering and making guesses about it, and Mikio Date of Sandwich-man (Japanese comedian whose ancestor is Masamune Date, an ancestor of Shigemura) was most expected among us.
    Director: Ridiculous.
Sadao: And who we met at the rehearsal was...him. We were so surprised.
MC: There's a footage of the moment he appeared on the set.
Michifumi Isoda (the author of the book this movie based on): Oh I've never seen it before.
MC: Let's see the moment when they first met Hanyu.
Isoda(to the audience): You are the only people who can see this footage.
MC: This is the world premiere. Please play the video.
Sadao: We didn't know who's coming yet...
    Sadao: I'm grinning.
Director: You should not be grinning here (laughs)
Sadao: And I'm staring at him.
Yuzu (on screen): Where's Asanoya Jinnai?
    Asanoya (on screen): Here.
Yuzu (on screen): ...So I came here to see you. Bring me my inkstone.
Shigemura's retainer (on screen): Yes, my lord.
    Director (on screen): OK!
Yuzu (on screen): Please to meet you. I'm Yuzuru Hanyu.
Director (on screen): OK, let me introduce you, this is Mr. Yuzuru Hanyu as Shigemura Date. Please to work with you!
Yuzu (on screen): Sumimasen.(すみませんcan mean “Sorry.” or “Thank you.” On this occasion it sounds more like "thank you for your warm welcome.")
Director (on screen): Everyone, your reactions to him was not quite right.
Yasufumi Terawaki (on screen): We were grinning.
Yuzu (on screen): I could see you smiling from here...

    3:36-
    Subtitle: How was Hanyu's acting?
Sadao: Wasn't he very natural? Well we couldn't see much of his acting in that footage, but he looks very natural...not like an athlete trying to act but like a real actor...and his expression was beautiful. I was so surprised, really. I was grinning, and in my mind I was like "Wow Hanyu kun is so good!"
MC: Just like an ordinary person admiring a noble person.
Sadao: Yeah, exactly, and I was so quick to approach him, just like an ordinary person (who found a celebrity.)
Isoda: One of our teammate from Higashinippon Broadcasting went to see his father bringing my book and the script with him. After reading them, Hanyu's father said this film would be good for the people of Sendai, and his son would be able to learn something as a performer. Then after a while, upon reading the book and the script together, they received our offer. It was a big surprise for us because we did not expect they would.
When he was on the set, he seemed to be having fun, eating things he like, which he usually avoid as an athlete, then he made that record-breaking score, so we were very glad that this movie didn't become his obstacle.
MC: Or this movie might have contributed to his record-breaking score...
Isoda: Oh we shouldn't be that bold. Let's be humble about that.
MC: This must be the moment when he made mistake.
    Isoda: Good expression.
Sadao: He asked for retakes and repeat without complaining.
Isoda: Everyone said that those who can claim the top can do anything wonderfully.

The making of "Tono Risoku de Gozaru" with a message from Yuzuru Hanyu at the very end. This one features a lot more of Yuzuru acting as well as talking than the other videos. Enjoy!

    Excerpt:
    Transcript:

00:46 I was nervous. I was nervous but I’m not an actor, so I just thought I’d have fun doing this and this is the first time I’ve come to a Studio Park so I thought I’d enjoy this experience too.

    01:05 And memorizing your lines?

01:06 I have memorized my lines and have memorized how I need to move. However, I’ll probably make mistakes because I’m nervous. But I’ve calculated the possibility of making these mistakes in terms of executing my performance. (laughs) I don’t think this can be helped.

01:20 How do you plan to portray this character?

01:30 Having read the script, the protagonist is stately and dignified. I’m going to try to convey a little bit of the dignity and majesty (威厳) he exudes. There are also things that only I can express through acting too. I am going to focus on the contrast between the protagonist and me. The protagonist will make his entrance in a lordly majestic manner befitting him, but he will also apologize and ask them not to close the brewery (giving them a name?). So he goes from entering the area in a majestic way to feeling apologetic and does something for them. I hope I will be able to convey this.

02:33 Is this the first time you’re going to meet the leading actors?

02:33 This is the first time. Yes. I don’t really have much opportunities to meet actors or other people in show business. This will be fun…or rather, I’m nervous!

02:48 It’s a pretty star studded cast. I guess you have to be careful not to be overawed by them.

02:53 I’m going to try to control it so that I am overawed by them in a good/positive way and use this to help myself perform. Right now my primary focus is to do my best so that I’m not a liability in the process of making this film.

03:06 Thank you. Let us continue after you have changed into your costume.

03:18 This is embarrassing. I’m embarrassed.

03:22 Aren’t you used to being filmed?

    03:24 I don’t think so. (laughs) I’m nervous.

    04:06
Male Voice: Let me introduce to you, the person who is going to play Date Shigemura – Yuzuru Hanyu. Yoroshiku Onegai-itashimasu!
    (applause)

    04:18
    Yuzuru: I’m sorry (I wasn’t very good).

04:20 Director: You all didn’t react to the entrance of Shigemura in the correct way!

    04:25
Actor: We were smiling too much.
Yuzuru: I could see you all smiling.

    04:33
Q: What is your first impression of him?
    Director: He’s better than I thought. I didn’t think he’d be such a perfect fit. I’m surprised.

    05:46
Abe Sadao: He’s good. He’s got the aura of a Lord…or should I say he’s beautiful? I’m impressed. Is it because he’s an athlete? I can really see that he wants to improve and do it better. He’s amazing. I’m impressed.

    06:09
Satoshi Tsumabuki: I was really surprised. But he’s the kind of person who makes you feel happy just by seeing him, no matter who you are. He said he’s never acted before, but he seemed like a confident and dignified Lord. He was wonderful. People who become No. 1 in the world (in any field) are different aren’t they? We chatted backstage as well. I wanted to have a photograph taken with him. (laughs) I asked him if we could do this like a regular person (regular person versus actor)…(laughs)

    07:38
Yuzuru: My brain is experiencing an overload…

    07:55
Yuzuru: I would like to thank everyone and the staff for putting-up with me over many hours. We did so many takes. I will continue to do what I do best and I also hope the cast of this film will continue to prosper. I’ll be looking forward to seeing this film. I wish you all - good health. Thank you very much!

    08:31
    Q. This is the first time you’ve acted and the first time you’ve acted in a historical piece. Tell me about this.
Yuzuru: I was very nervous. There was no choreography (sometimes) and I had to think about how to move. Also coordinating my movements as I said my lines was extremely difficult. And us skaters usually don’t express things with words, so this was very difficult for me.

    08:55
    Q. Earlier you said that you were very nervous about having to act in front of these veteran actors.
Yuzuru: Yes. I was nervous the entire time and my heart couldn’t keep beating rapidly, so it calmed down half-way through. But in the beginning, I was so nervous I couldn’t say my lines properly and even though I memorized them very well, it was hard to say my lines in this environment. I was unable to capture the atmosphere of the scene and was just reciting my lines. I am feeling now that I should have prepared more for this. I could have tried a little harder and done better.

09:30 Were you able to pay attention to the details that you set out to pay attention to?
Yuzuru: I failed. It was difficult. But after my initial nervousness dissipated somewhat, toward the end of the shoot, I was able to think about what I wanted to do while I acted more. I hope the audience can see the difference.

10:00 What did you talk about with the actors?

    10:11
Yuzuru: They told me that there was no need to be nervous. But if you are nervous that’s OK. Nervousness can translate into film in a good way too. They were reassuring.

10:22 What score would you give yourself out of a 100 points?
Yuzuru: 20. I need to apologize to the audience about this, but this really was the first time I have acted in a film and I was nervous among other things. Especially when I made my entrance, my nervousness was overwhelming. I was able to act better toward the end of the shoot, but I have a lot to learn before I can act properly.

10:51 There is a rumour that you will be a figure skater and actor?
Yuzuru: Absolutely not. Please don’t worry. I’m not going to do that. It was a wonderful and valuable experience to be able to experience being an actor. I’m going to use this experience to enhance my artistry when I skate. Perhaps I will be able to play roles like this in my competitive programs as well as those for the exhibition.

"You can tell he is an admirable person because he was able to look at his illness as a fortunate thing. He is a person who doesn't become arrogant when things are going well, and a person who does not fear facing hardships. The more intense those hardships are, the more he wants to find an opportunity in this situation to grow, and rejoice in this. I think Yuzuru Hanyu is a treasure to all humanity."

So Yuzuru only does 12 crossovers in his entire free skate.

The author says Yuzuru is the only skater who in both programs does quads and axels with different entries, in both SP and LP. As in the LP, Yuzuru jumps with combination entries, where he uses variety of entries with difficulty. These entries are risky but they contribute to the program’s difficulty and they look great as a whole.

I skipped the first half but Yuzuru appears from around 9:40.
The director of the "making of Tono.." video said that all the staff members and actors were impressed with Yuzuru, the way he walked and talked was elegant that it really was like "there is a Tono-sama here with us". I don't think there were many new footages shown here except it was the first time for me to see the part around 10:40 where he bends down to take a closer look at bugs. He says, "I was thinking that there are a lot of bugs here". (The story of Yuzuru and bugs )

    ------------
Sadao Abe, the main guy in the movie, was on a radio show this morning to promote the movie. Asked by a listener who wanted to know what Yuzuru was like, he said that Yuzuru was friendly and ate bento with everyone (added that he ate everything in the bento). Yuzuru was asked by someone how long he trains for and he said he can't stop himself but about 1.5~2 hrs to avoid injury. He also said that Yuzuru had memorized all his lines and "shosa" (movement) before coming in that day.

I'm impressed he ate all his bento!

    Yuzuru’s words in P&G article (2 May 2016):
For competitions and times like that, I often use hairstyling products to fix my hair so that it does not get too messy. Because of that, I choose a shampoo that washes away the styling products without making my hair feel rough. Styling products also cause hair to be more easily damaged, so I use a conditioner as well. Figure skating is a sport where we are looked at from head to toe, including our hairstyle, so I do pay attention to haircare.

When I was a young child, I copied the hairstyle of Evgeni Plushenko whom I admire and I had a round mushroom cut. I started using Pantene from about that time and I remember the suds were really nice and my hair felt very smooth after that. I can feel that it has evolved from that long time ago, but the nice feeling of a good wash is still the same. The styling products are all cleanly washed off and I like the smooth feeling of my hair even with just shampoo alone.

From a long time back, the bathroom of the Hanyu home always had Pantene. When we all use the same shampoo, after a bath, we all have the same scent. That gives me a feeling of the bonds of family. Even now when I go back home, there is Pantene in the bathroom, and I feel very much the sense of closeness and familiarity.

This reminds me of something I meant to ask a while ago. I wasn't keeping up with the forum as mush as I normally do while I was in Boston, but did anyone find clips of the end of Yuzu's practice on 3/29? This was the day he did his SP runthrough but he wound down his practice a bit early and was just practicing edges/stroking toward the end. I'm kicking myself because I didn't record it at the time and I'm really sad because it was amazing to watch! He was so fast. If I remember correctly he was practicing in a circle around half the rink

I've found bits and pieces like this:

    Some parts about Yuzuru:
    ....
From the diagram Yuzuru Hanyu demonstrates the best variety of transitions in the long program, along with many one footed skating transitions (three turns) as well using difficult turns (4 rockers and 2 counters). He uses the least quantity of crossovers, enough steps with good variety of different linking elements (2 Besties, 2 spread eagles, 2 Bauers, Pivot, loop and half axel). The variety of transitions is very good. Patrick Chan in his LP demonstrates enough quantity of one footed transitions (three turns), only 2 difficult ones (rocker and counter) small amount of crossovers. He is using all instruments of figure skating transitions (Besti, Spread eagle, 2 Lunges, Spiral, Waltz jump and 3 Hops ) the variety of transitions are very good.
    ....
The difficulty of transitions in Yuzuru Hanyu’s program is very good, skating transitions (steps) are changing with one footed transitions and other linking elements, accompanied by head, hands and body movements, changing the direction of movement all the time. Yuzuru executes transition in between elements: posing from the body movement transitions, 2 three turns with arms aloft, Mohawk, Besti on the outside edges and counter. The difficulty of the transitions is very good. All 8 jumping elements are executed from difficult and various entries, besides all these, 3F has difficult exit as well (change of edge, counter, three turn). Entries on the jumping elements differ and they are combined (with steps he is using one footed transitions and linking elements). For example entry on loop combo is (spread eagle-Bauer-three turn-three turn-three turn- change of edge) or a 4T entry (Besti-Chasse-Chotcaw-Three turn). Yuzuru executes 3A3T combo from combined entry which includes linking elements, 2 one footed transitions and 2 steps: Spread eagle, Rocker, three turn, Mohawk, Chasse). The quality of execution is very good. Hand, body, torso and head movements are matching the music.
    ....
Evaluating all the criteria’s for Transition/Linking footwork PCS (difficulty of transitions before element and between them, frequency , difficulty and variety) the most difficult program is executed by Yuzuru Hanyu, then comes Javier Fernandez and Patrick Chan.

Interesting note: After analyzing transitions in both, short and long programs: Yuzuru Hanyu is the only skater who executed all types of jumps, including quads and triple axels with different entries in both SP and LP. In both programs Yuzuru Hanyu jumped 4S, 4T and 3A from different and combined entries, along with high difficulty from various transitions before and in between all elements. This path is more risky but on the good side program looks as the one whole and jumping elements are looking like the part of choreography. This is all, thanks for the attention.

CCTV has realised Yuzu's interview in Boston. He said that he may keep skating till 2022 Olymic Games. ( Not sure if I am ready for 4 years more)
Translation by Jessie Kok @YHIFG FB

Q1: How are you feeling now after the competition?
Yuzu: Regrettable. (or using what Yuzu’s usually says in English will be “really regret my performance”) But at the same time I feel good to be skating with so much support from the audience. Although I feel regrettable, I am glad to have skated SEIMEI in front of the audience.

Q2: You did great in SP but your FS’ performance was a surprise to all. What would you think is the reason?
Yuzu: Well, I don’t think my condition is not good. It could be that I’m nervous and at the same time excited, so it caused my emotions to fluctuate. Although it will be another one tough/hard year ahead, I will transform this regret to hard work towards the next season.

Q3: There were reports that say that you are injured before the WC and you were not able to do 4T for 7 weeks. Does this affect your performance in this competition?
Yuzu: Of course this made me change my FS’ Quad jumps for the 2nd half. However, I feel comfortable after skating my program. I almost do not feel that my injury is affecting me. In any case, I just feel regrettable. I would like to thank all of you and please look forward to the next season.

Q4: You mentioned that it's going to be a tough/hard year into next season. So what are your plans now?
Yuzu: I want to do a lot of practices. And I will do more difficult things and to perform more programs that will be able to touch all your hearts. Also, I would like to consider what kind of programs I would really like to perform. At the same time, I will work hard towards the next season.

Q5: Last question. There were reports that say that you will retire from competition after the 2018 Pyeong Chang Olympics. Beijing will be hosting the 2022 Winter Olympics, so could you please predict what you will be doing then?
Yuzu: I am still not sure about the retirement now so I can’t comment much. I will just work hard towards the Pyeong Chang. And until Beijing’s, there maybe possibilities that I may still be skating. Seriously, I can’t really imagine things that are so far away from now, so I just hope that by then I will be performing my best through all my hard work. Thank you.

    ---------
What kind of a competition was this World Championships?
Regrettable. There were lots of issues found especially in the FS. I'm more optimistic than I thought I'd be and more frustrated than everyone might imagine. There's still some time until the next season starts but I want to do many things before the it starts and become stronger.

How frustrating is it now compared to Worlds last year?
Placing 1st in the SP last year and placing 1st in then SP this year is of a different quality. If we look at the scores alone, everybody's levels went up so it's regrettable but compared to last season, my placement in the FS went up by one so I think I grew a little bit.

Your FS didn't go as you hoped for. From the time I interviewed you in Toronto and your perfect SP, I thought things were looking good so I was surprised at your FS. Did something change in between?
Maybe I couldn't control the peaking time even though Brian, Tracy and I talked about it a lot so that's regrettable. I didn't think my SP was ready but when I arrived here and was interviewed at the airport, I realized that I was prepared for the competition in regards to how I'd been training, how I've been building my condition and my mental state, etc. In that sense, I thought I was in a perfect state but with this as the result, I need to rethink about a lot of things.

Nobody know what's going to happen on the ice so mistakes will happen. You mentioned at the press conference that you started to feel nervous.
This might be just my analysis, but I was able to perform 2 good skates consecutively and had good results and broke records. I was able to do more run-throughs without mistakes and my feelings towards winning increased too. But as a result, my feelings towards how to perfect the program, how I perform, how I jump, how I feel towards the program grew after every competition. When you interviewed me in Toronto, I said that there is no limit and there'll never be "perfection" for me but the scores I received told me that I was close to perfection so I think I got too caught up in that. This is the conclusion I came up with as I thought about this yesterday. I felt that I had to aim for perfection, and aiming for perfection leads to motivation and focusing but it also leads to feeling pressure and I felt I was chasing after something I'd already achieved. I think I was feeling this way at GPF also but I felt like I had to outperform myself from the previous competition. My analysis is that I trapped myself. What I said at the press conference is that "the quality of nervousness was different". I read various articles about myself when I try to clarify what happened and I noticed that I mentioned "perfection" and the "different quality of nervousness". These are the 2 key words for me here. "Perfection" didn't mean "performing the best that I can do now" but "outperforming the perfect skates I already had" and that brought out the different type of nervousness.

Last season, you weren't able to be where you wanted to be. This season was a season of progress, not just for you, but for the other skaters as well. How do you evaluate this season?
Javi included 2 quads in his SP and the 3A int he 2nd half of his FS. Shoma moved the 3A in the 2nd half. So there were a lot of evolutions going on during the season. Especially regarding Javi including 2 quads in the SP, this happened while I was away from the Cricket Club so when I found that out, I didn't think of him a rink mate or a team mate but a rival and a scary existence. So when I lost to him, I felt frustrated. It was the same as last season where I placed 1st in the SP and made mistakes in the FS and watched Javi's FS thinking "I'm going to lose to him again this year". But the quality of frustration is totally different. Of course I'm frustrated at myself but I look at Javi with more familiarity as well as more of a rival.

    Did you sense his seriousness?
He changed a lot. I won 2 years in a row at the GPF at his home and he must have felt frustrated about that as well as missing the podium at Sochi. I think these experiences have transformed him. He is a scary existence but I admire him, have always admired him so I admire him even more.

    Thoughts about next season?
One thing that is clear is to increase the level of difficulty. Now that the season has ended, my thought is that I can't remain at this level. About the quality of nervousness I was talking about, I'm extremely mad at myself for thinking that I was perfect. I received the maximum score with a layout of the most technical difficulty that I'm currently able to deliver so I think I was satisfied with myself in a way. So I need to aim higher and I want to be stronger.

Is it hard to escape from the past?
Yes, I could use it as a stepping stone like with the feelings of regrets from the past and present. These feeling have made me stronger in the past and will continue to make me strong. But past successes can't necessarily be usable as a stepping stone. Only I can make it become that. No matter what kind of an environment I'm in or no matter what anyone says, this is the dream I've been chasing after so it's only myself who can think and continue with the dream so I have to challenge my limit and go beyond my limit.

By "raising the difficulty," does it mean you'll be adding different types of quads?
I'm thinking about that too but if possible, doing 2 in the 2nd half. I want to keep on challenging myself. But on top of that, I want to increase the level of perfection of the program with the way I'm able to show, interpret, express and feel so I want to show that as well as deliver the utmost technically difficult program even if I have to fumble along the way.

What kind of a program would you like to do? SEIMEI was a great challenge so I'm really looking forward to what you'll choose next.
I'm still thinking about the music, even more than last season. I can't give a decisive answer in regards to what kind of music I'll choose but I think when the time comes, I'll think "this is it" or "I want to challenge this" or "I want to add depth to this type". Expression has so many directionality, not only in its breadth but also in depth and perfecting it. Reception is different for everyone so I want to think about how I feel, what I want to do and how I want to perform.

People will have high expectations now so it'll be difficult to satisfy them.
But people's expectations make me happy. It means that what I've been doing since I was a child is paying off. Since I was little, I skated to improve for a sense of accomplishment but also because I wanted to be praised. I want to do a program where I can move people as well as lay importance on how I want to perform. So I hope everyone looks forward to what I decide to do and I'll also enjoy feeling people's expectations as I prepare for next season.

Is there anything you want to do now that the season is over?
My head is full of things regarding skating. I want to do something that'll have good influences on my skating. I have fantastic earphones, headphones, and music players so I hope to use them to think about the next programs and absorb myself into music. There is nothing I'm thinking about that isn't related to skating.
I think this season where I achieved most of what I wanted mid-season, and having disappointing skates for the last 2 competitions is an ordeal from god. I think I'm being told to think about skating and about what I can do for my body and mind.

What do you want to eat when you go back to Japan. You said sushi before but what is it now?
I guess you're telling me to relax but I can't think about anything but skating. It's inevitable, I can't change my personality even if I wanted to so I'll cherish it and face up to skating.

He says about the first photo with flowers, at that time yuzu was 20 yo, and he was embarrassed that “the flowers for the 20 yo man?” but they asked and he did nicely. He doesn’t seem to have any hesitation to be with flowers on ice like hana-ha-saku and hana-ni-nare. But off ice, he has any. It's interesting.
About zunda-mochi, they prepared it since they wanted to get a photo where he ate something, and they relieved to know actually it was his favorite food.

Local news at Sendai is always warm to yuzu.

The movie was, in one word, a fine movie. Story is simple, but the scenario is well written with some educational words (No wonder his father read it and decided.) and the camera works of the scenery and lighting are stunning (Of course, all the castings had the perfect match including yuzu!). You can see how the movie was made in detail. While watching, I felt several times how good it was that yuzu could have worked in such a movie.

And finally, yuzu scene came. Small chuckle happened and I thought some audience came here to see yuzu. I don’t know why but I became a bit shy to see yuzu on screen (lol).
He was firmly a part of the movie and played the important role. I could see the reason the actors realized that he was the same performer trying to express something even though figure skating lacks speaking. He felt the person in the class. As daisy said, his movement was elegant. Further, one of the reasons some actors said he could be an actor, and the director had decided the casting is his voice, I think. His voice is so comfortable to hear and has a nice quality and volume. He must have troubled with the lines but they were saisfactory. I tried not to miss the last lines as daisy advised!

BTW, what impressed me was his eyes and especially, his hands. https://twitter.com/harurize/status/...589632?lang=ja
The white and plump hands had some impact in that scene.

Finally, the song at endroll was a kind of highlight as well as the line "羽生結弦 友情出演”. It was arranged version of 上を向いて歩こう(sukiyaki song)https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=bbH754gScuk(”sukiyaki-song””ue-wo-muite-arukou.)It’s sad but bright.I don’t know explain well, but I really thought if he could see the movie somewhere, the song would left something in himself.
(BTW, I find the English lyrics translated by Yoko Ono. It’s closer to the original lyrics than the previous one which hit in the 1960’s.). It was sung by Olly Murs as “Look At The Sky” https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=WyhQcyiNShM )

Translation of the video by Lilian Fung @YHIFG FB (aka Ahkeekee @GS):
This is the youngest athlete in figure skating to sweep all the honors and the king of figure skating, Yuzuru Hanyu. He keeps surpassing the records he set. Since figure skating is such a popular sport in China, Yuzu won by an overwhelmingly huge margin as the most outstanding foreign athlete in China. (They then plays the clip of yuzu's record breaking moment in nhk)

After executing all of his jumps perfectly in NHK, Yuzu smashed the records of sp, fp and total score, achieving almost full score for his pcs. He reused Ballade no. 1 for his short program in order to focus on his free program. (then introduces yuzu's program, the movie Onmyouji) in the original scripts on Abe no Seimei, it says: "Seimei has a slender body type, pale skin, water-like pure eyes; with his wits, he makes no mistakes in whatever he do." It is as though this character is tailor-made for Yuzu, and Yuzu is the only one who could present the essence of the historical figure, Japanese history and culture in his skate.

In his opening pose, it is as though Yuzu is chanting with his right hand, and supports the sky (heaven in the japanese context?) with his left hand while his foot moves as though he's controlling the earth (?), symbolizing that Onmyouji has control (?) over the heaven and earth. Imagine the entire ice rink as an entirely dark space, Yuzu's movements is like rays of sun beaming through absolute darkness, chasing away clouds and darkness. (WOAH)

Yuzu's movements and expressions changes along with the plot in the movie dramatically, this balance of expressions and movement is the essence of performing. Through Yuzu's skate, he presents the essence of the culture of Onmyouji. "It is undeniable that yuzu is the one of the most outstanding athlete in winter sports in recent years. To defeat the Westerners in this sport (fs) itself is an admirable feat."

"His desire to win is stronger than anyone else, if you remember, his coach Nanami said that if you ask in what way is Yuzu a talent, it would be that he's more diligent than everybody else" (there's a little part missing?) (then they play the recording breaking moment in gpf).

Perfect performance and breaking records are not the end of the story. His choreographer said there is still room for improvement in this programme. Hanyu, in his quest to surpass himself, goes through all lengths without any hesitation.

    -------------------
    Alternate translation of a section:
"The original work described Abe no Seimei as a man with an ethereal air and as having a slender figure, fair skin and a sparkling gaze! This character almost seems as if it were created just for Hanyu Yuzuru." - credit Prissy Lai

The guest is a popular actress, Yoko Maki and she is a big figure skating/Yuzuru fan.
The guy who appears on the video is her comedian friend (Koyabu). I didn't watch the show from the beginning but I'm guessing he was asked what he wanted her to stop doing. He said that Yoko is really passionate when she talks about Yuzuru and although he likes figure skating himself and thinks of Yuzuru as a national treasure, he gets tired after she speaks about Yuzuru for 20 minutes. She describes small details about things like "that expression/his eyes when he does that thing, etc." and because Koyabu-san supports Yuzuru himself, he listens to her but she talks for so long and praises him so much that he starts to get jealous and thinks, "the audience will think I'm funnier (than Yuzuru) if we were at NGK (I think it's where he does stand-up comedy)."

Back in the studio, the host (Ueda) asked her if she likes Yuzuru that much and she replied that she's always liked figure skating and she made Koyabu watch Yuzuru's performances when he came to her house. She explained to Koyabu how difficult his jump entries are and kept on rewinding and fast-forwarding the video. Ueda asked her if she's seen it live and she said she's seen Daisuke and Shizuka in an ice show but hasn't seen Yuzuru yet. Ueda boasted that he saw Yuzuru at the Sochi Olympics and interviewed him afterwards and you can see Yoko's response from 2:47 . She shouted, "I'm envious!! How was he!?" Ueda said, "he's sincere, humble, a very nice young man." and she's still excited at 3:08.
After that she talks briefly about Patrick and Boyang. She skates sometimes herself and reconfirms how great Yuzuru is when she does.

This is Yoko Maki's instagram when she posted things about the an-an magazine he was in.
Why did I buy this?? Why??
    What am I pinning up??

Yuzuru Hanyu is in an article in a Taiwanese language learning Magazine. The title in Chinese is "Yuzuru Hanyu: The Gold medalist Figure Skater Overcomes Difficulties with Courage"...photo1, photo2, photo3, photo 4.

Short introduction about Yuzu, translation "Yuzuru Hanyu who was born at Izumi-ku, Sendai is a famous Japanese figure skater. Although he was suffered from asthma since his childhood, he still overcomes physical disadvantages and keeps enhancing skating skills and has good records at junior figure skating competitions. Yuzu’s hometown and rink were seriously damaged by 311 earthquakes. Despite of the catastrophe, he lifts his spirits skating to encourage other victims. Yuzuru Hanyu’s performance is famous for his elegant figure and highly difficult quadruple jumps. At Sochi, winter Olympia games, his short program got 101.45 and broke the world record, and he is the first Asian figure skating gold medalist. This dazzling new sports star not only performs exquisitely; he also brings positive energy for us."

Brief intro about Figure skating, translation "It was the first winter sport that is included in the Olympics, in 1908. Men's singles, ladies' singles perform short program and long program. Skaters have to perform jumps, spins, jump combination, and spin combination in a limited time. Scoring is according to the skating skills, performance/execution, choreography and Interpretation of the music."

We’ve covered him in detail and made this new book.
I’ve watched all of people worked for the book and the editor in charge and their passion and effort are really respectable.

whether he is in good shape or bad, he spared his time for the book and talked about his thoughts sincerely and honestly.

We have confidence in the book. He himself states “this book has everything about me.”

Further, he responded to the things which he’d never talked about.
This book describes Hanyu Yuzuru not as a generous skater and a king but as a young man in his 20s."

Another information says this book has 288p. The first book has 167p, so 120p over are added. But even with the increased pages, the whole pages seem to be insufficient to cram into his 4 years history where too many things happened…

If not, it is nice to see because it is an enthusiastic, and in some extent funny, video of a Spanish fan of Yuzuru, with his personal commentary mixed in Spanish and English, and subtitles in English (unfortunately the quality of the video is low, and some 30 seconds of the music right after the beginning of the program are missing).

“As per the proposal of the organizer, I played the arranged version of Ballade No.1 by Chopin according to the last season’s SP of Yuzuru Hanyu san unable to appear for his injury, as a special program for the audience coming to the show. I wou.d love to show my deep gratitude to yuzu-kun who gave me a big chance at FaOI Kobe last year and his fans who came to know about me by that incident. I’m waiting the day when yuzu-kun’s pain will be healed and he’ll show brilliant performances again.”

As for last year’s FaOI in Kobe, Fukuma-san wrote a long text about it in English in his Facebook last summer(please scroll down), which really shows yuzu’s characters.

About FaOI in Makuhari 2016, where Fukuma-san did the collaboration with yuzu in the video of GPF final, BS TV aired one part of the show the other day, but it did not include the performance.
FaOI in Makuhari is scheduled to be aired again as a perfect and longer version in July. So we may see the scene there.

A couple of weeks ago we talked about lovely Japanese fans who gave away Yuzu's clear files and souvenirs to other fans. Yesterday, I received these gifts from the lovely Yuri (I included pages from the Number magazine). I just couldn't thank her enough.

One of my most poignant pictures of Yuzu is the 16yo Yuzu looking up as he was about to enter the rink with Kenji looking down behind him at the 2011 earthquake charity ice show....symbolizing in the time of sadness there is a great hope for the future.

It's the video of Yuzuru SP at the GPF 2015 by Italian Eurosport with English subtitles. I don't know if the translation has been made by Lys Alton and Carolina Corsali like those for the NHK Trophy but it could be probable for the latter because it is written "Translation done by Caro & I.".

To read it, i came to love this performance more. He says his team greatly supported him after that loss of FP, and he felt he could start again. Next day was the exhibition. In his usual routine of exhibition practice, he tries to do many things, but this time, he really concentrated on what he should do for the ex only, and he prepared for it. He knew he couldn’t get on the ice for 2 months for the maintenance of his legs since then. One of the reasons we are impressed with this performance to such an extent is that he poured into so much, his heart, his gratitude (he talked substantially about the team's supports), his love for skate (since he wouldnt skate for 2 months after EX.) etc...
To read the interview, i thought as long as he has these attitudes and those who support him, he is all right. No wonder the Chinese girls cried so much to read the Chinese translation of this interview...

Further, there's another happy thing with this EX. He talked about the bad ice condition. The temperature of the rink was 4 Celsius at SP, but as many as 17 Celsius at FP! Patrick stated some arguments about the ice condition, and yuzu agreed with Patrick. the ice was disadvantages for the skates having great SS of deep edges. On that ice, if you get your edges deeper, you cant skate smoothlyl! He wanted to ask Tracy how to skate well on that type of ice. But finally, he found the way to skate on such an ice, and it was EX. He got over the ice. So he must have skated comfortably at EX with happiness of the fulfillment.

Anyway, he must get so much skting practice with Trasy this summer!

I read it because everybody was talking about it last week.
I don't have enough English ability to translate, but it was a scaring story.
Basically, Shirota-san talked about how Yuzu's left foot was swollen badly after the short program.
She said if she hadn't made him do the official practice after the short program, and if he had rested, Yuzu would have won.
She was very regretful for her decision of not stopping his practice.
I read it too. It’s not an interview but more of a detailed description of what happened in Boston, Shirota’s regrets, how he’s been dealing with pain on his foot and some criticisms from the writer (and Shirota?) about the size and condition of the ice rink at Worlds.
The part about how he's been dealing with pain is quite shocking.
Since his injury, he's been saying that as long as he puts his boots on, he'll be able to deal with it.
So he'd force his foot into his boot, he'd do the laces up tightly, he'd wait for his foot to become numb, and when his foot became completely numb, he'd say, "It's numb now so I'll be okay. I can't feel anything so it doesn't hurt. I can do it."

ETA: The writer is Naoko Utsunomiya who also writes for the Sportive magazine.

About his spirit, Shirota thinks he was mentally a mess at one point, I think it was the time in between the SP and FS. He was understandably upset after the FS but Shirota said he didn’t cry at all.
    Brian's name wasn't mentioned so I don't know.
The complaint about the rink size was that it was 4m shorter than what a figure skating competition rink should be, and about the ice condition, there were visible puddles on the surface on both sides of the rink so it made it hard for long arch jumpers to execute their jumps.

I've been reading multiple articles so I can't remember which info. came from which magazine but they are from the same writer, Naoko Utsunomiya. I read the July and August issues of SPUR and an article from a literature magazine that came out last week.

On the literature magazine, it said that Yuzuru's been spending his days off the ice by listening to endless music from classics, jazz, rock and hip hop because he'll have 2 new programs to choose music for next season.

At that time, he was not the Olympic & World champion & Daisuke Takahashi was the big star who it was difficult to approach (but even Daisuke stopped for autographs at that GPF). After the gala, when everyone was walking in the dark outside the arena toward the parking lot, I noticed that right in front of me was a rolling suitcase with a Pooh-bear strapped on top! Yuzuru was walking alone among us! So, it's clearly just because he's so popular now & has such ardent fans that he doesn't stop for autographs & photos & has bodyguards.

Possibly also bad for his health (cold, flu, etc. You have to wonder if Asada's illness at last year's GPF wasn't due to her being so generous to her fans before the competition started)... and maybe even dangerous (fan stampedes, or some fans could be crazy)...

It speaks volumes that he has a body guard with him everywhere he goes now...

I write down here some of their comments, because for me it is useful to watch again and remember what Yuzuru accomplished in this season, independently of the scores. And I was so sorry that after Worlds also some of his fans seemed have already forgotten all that.

Between quotation marks you find the literal translation from the video (translation is made not by me but by Carolina, Ilaria and other english speaker fan. thanks a lot to them).

The comments at the beginning of the program are few, just naming the jump, as usual for these commentators.
The excitement began to grow from the moment of the combo, quad+triple toeloop, that they defined as “pazzesco!” translated as “insane!”
They repeated the same after the last triple lutz, stressing the fact that Yuzuru is performing for the fourth time in a row (within two weeks) a clean et almost flawless performance.

The best come at the end of the program, when they feel rightly more free to speak without disturbing who was watching the performance (from 5:45 mins).
“MA: (his usual phrase for yuzu) Welcome on planet Hanyu! Population one: HIM.
AD: we saw him here in a close-up. T-E-R-R-I-F-I-C! 120! (laughing in joy). It’s impressive, Massimilano. It is really disarming in a competition where we saw such high level technical content, Yuzuru goes out in the rink and gift us another record.”

    And again at 6:30
“MA: now the dilemma is the following: in front such a program, you judge who are sitting rink side, how can you not give 10 to choreography, interpretation, skating skills – because the variety of the steps and the flow that you can see here it’s a rare thing – performance is 10 by right…And the last 10 …since the last component always follows the other four, just give 10 for everything and stop.
…No because this is 10. It is 10. Game over: 100!
AD: it is crazy, CRAZY. And here how much we can go higher over 300? 330? Can we go to 330?
MA: in my opinion, we are at 330 in total. This is a program that can’t get less than 220, c’mon. Because it must 100 on pcs.
AD: (laughing in joy) Astounding! I don’t think it will get 100, but we won’t be that far
MA: how many North American judges are there? From USA? Let’s check. Because from there we can know if he will get 100. They are those who criticize Hanyu. They, who have Jason Brown (the ton of these sentence in Italian is quite ironic, obviously).
    AD: Just one
MA: Eh, that one could give some problems.
AD: But you know the lowest score gets dropped, so…
MA: the lowest score gets dropped, that’s true.
AD: Crazy. Impressive. This athlete is astounding. And he didn’t let other amazing performances affect him

    At 8:07
“AD: (….) but still it is tremendous. Unbelievable (…) this athlete is hammering program after program, with the highest difficulty and with an impressive consistency. Actually, I don’t have the right words to explain this.
MA: but everybody is following his example. And today competition is something that we have never seen before.”

    At 9:10
“MA: Now let’s wait. But really to give that 100 would be a message (the score came out). Well. 98,56, we can be satisfied with that. 330,43. No else in the world has broken 300. How much higher he will get? 350?
AD: he can’t get to that because pcs are capped
    MA: amazing
AD: hands on his face…but this athlete is impressive. The greatest we have ever seen on an ice rink
MA: there are no more comparison. And we are not even interested in those of another era anymore. There have been great champions in the past, in different times. Yagudin was exceptional, Plushenko was exceptional, but here we are in front of an union of art and technique that has no precedent in skating history.
AD: he is the greatest talent we have ever seen. A naturalness in the way he executes difficult elements that has no precedents

Then Max conclude giving his advice to Italian young male skaters about the importance to learn first to jump well and with quality, and then work on the pcs, like Boyang now (but he let intend following me also like Yuzuru in the past). Boyang also without high pcs this year arrived 5th in the GPF (and now we can say 3rd at Worlds). The contrary example for him is Jason Brown, that has to learn quadruples to compete with the others top skaters in the world.

They both finish speaking about this beautiful and epic competition, with exceptional performances, making references also to the ladies (Medveva) and the juniors (Tsurksaya among ladies; males little bit worse but all with difficult and ambitious programs) competitions where the technique bar was raised the same, this year.

    At the very end
MA: in the last two weeks Yuzuru Hanyu gave himself the luxury and gave us the honour to watch four perfect programs
AD: Crazy! And what kind of programs.
MA: And we already knows that he is going to say: “No, but I can do better, because I didn’t like I did the steps sequence, I can improve on the spins…” He is like that!
    AD: Indeed

YUZU DAYS (30 June 2016) : What figure skating taught me – the stage called the world.

    The stage called the world

    –It’s a dream, it’s also a wall (challenge)–
When I was little, my home rink was my world. Then from junior to senior. And from Japan to the world. I feel that my stage has gradually grown bigger. When I started to skate in the world, it was really like a dream. Until then, it was a world that existed only on TV, so I was continually surprised and amazed by everything. Same as when I first arrived in Canada, everything was exciting and every day was a day of discovery. Competing in the world, I feel the magnitude of it, and at the same time, I also feel the big wall (challenge) of the reality that there are many great skaters who can do things that I cannot do.

–What I should, it’s just one thing!–
Competing on the world stage, there are many areas that are different from Japan. In order to win, you have to master high level skills, and mental strength is also needed. Because the climate, environment and food are all different, you have to manage and take care of your own physical condition. But whether in Japan or in the world, what I have to do is the same. When I think ‘I want to win!’ in the world of high level skaters, there is nothing else but to keep polishing myself (keep improving). I am able to say this now, but the old me could not say something like this.

    About fans throughout the world

–No matter what kind of support, I’m happy–
There is tremendous energy in the support of fans and it always reaches the heart. The feelings of fans who support athletes are the same, no matter what country they are from. But there is a difference in the manner of support. There are fans who like to cosplay to show their support (t/n. I think he means fans who wear Pooh costumes), and there are fans who fill the rink with lots of presents…. the customs and culture of hospitality of the country are shown, and the unique and enthusiastic support raises the excitement level. To support a single athlete, all become united as one, it is something amazing and very happy.

–I want to turn the support into strength–
When the support power is very strong, sometimes I will feel the pressure, in a good sense. Turning that pressure into my own strength is a way of paying back (or living up to) that support. Each time I perform, various sounds arise from the audience area. Depending on the content of the performance, there are expectations, relief, disappointment, etc, but as I skate, the air of the venue moves. I really enjoy that sense of oneness with the whole place and the sense of presence.

To people who are aiming to (compete in) the world

–Do not be afraid of failure or detours–
It is good if it can become good advice to my juniors in the future, but I feel that I am not in that position yet. My mantra is just “Nothing is a waste.” So even if you take a detour or if you fail, it is a 100% opportunity to reflect and think. It may seem like a waste at that time, but some day it will certainly become food for thought on how not to fail again. Sometimes detours (or a roundabout way) become the shortcut in terms of results. So, the things that you want to do, take on the challenge without fear and cherish the experience. That’s what I wish for them.

    Yuzuru Hanyu, the university student

I am in the Faculty of Human Sciences 「人間科学部」 and now my major is 「人間情報科学科」(Human Information Science). What kind of study is that? The world is overflowing with information; by what system do people encounter the information, receive it, judge that it is right and continue into action? On what basis do they do that? Data is analysed and many things are capitalised on. I’m learning about the information processing ability of humans, the way they deal with information, of course some things are related to sports and some have nothing to do with sports, such as how changing the position of an office desk affects efficiency and also environmental design with the study of an actual company as an example. To do one report every week is really tough but I work hard to hand them in.

[This 1st series of Yuzu Days has ended. The 2nd series will start in autumn.]

A sneak peek of a page....first time I've seen that Requiem photo , someone need to draw that.

A fan (Angelica Yuzu) said there are so many beautiful photos and many that she has not seen before and quite a lot of him in bermudas . Definitely a good buy even if you don't understand Japanese. Especially as Yuzu is donating his royalties from the book and the publisher is also donating part of the sale proceeds to Ice Rink Sendai. It is available online at Amazon Japan and deliver worldwide.

Support for Ice Rink Sendai is another issue close to his heart as his fellow skaters depend on local rinks to train. Yuzuru has twice experienced losing his home rink. The first time was in Dec 2004 when it closed due to operating difficulties. It re-opened in 2007 after Shizuka won the OGM and pushed the local government into action. TV news covering the re-opening and interviewing 12 years old Yuzu (@1:03min) on his thoughts. The second time was due to the earthquake in March 2011 and he performed in about 60 ice shows over that summer to secure ice time. - credit @nanoka12 tumblr.

But, this time, the patient in the drama was a figure skater (he can jump 4A!!), and the model seemed to be Yuzuru. I could not resist to see it

There were a lot of jokes/quips afterwards, such as,

    - The way he fell is so weird.
    - Too slow before the jump. He can never make 4A with such speed!!
    - Look at that face while jumping!! No way!
    - That combination of shoes and blades (EDEA Motivo and MARK IV) is not the one for a medalist.
    - His costume seems to be too loose (actually it resembled the one Mitsuki Sumoto wore last season)
    - The second place is "Javier Adriano - Spain"
    - The final score is 329.47. Slightly less than Yuzuru's score!!
    - Someone made the protocol !!

And, so on and so on.

Fans seem to have enjoyed the drama very much

According his latest autobiography, he considered long and hard to put 4Lo in both his programs in Boston since his consistency on 4Lo was better than on his 4T in the months/weeks going to WC, but he opted out because he didn't think 4Lo was ready yet quality wise (ready in Yuzu sense, I guess: which means doing it with the most difficult entry you can think of...).

As for his shape right now, there's really no much to know for certain: just to keep fingers crossed he has fully healed.

    TRANSLATIONS

As I said I would do, I translated the main parts of the last chapter of Aoi Hono II: World Championships 2016.
The first part on his injury is paraphrased. After that is proper translation of parts.

About his injury-- briefly summarised by me from his direct speech:

It started as a discomfort at the end of October, just before Skate Canada. There was numbness when he jumped toeloops. But it went away after 3 or 4 jumps. He gave it some care but did not see it as major because it went away with more movement. At NHK Trophy, it had become a pain and got worse over time and was pretty bad at Nationals (Dec).

After Nationals, he rested for 10 days, and then he did ‘NHK Trophy Special Exhibition’ (Jan 9, Morioka) and then ‘New Year On Ice’ (Jan 16, 17, Osaka).

[My own notes about these 2 ice shows from past articles I had saved:
    1) NHK Special Ex– This show was hosted by NHK and proceeds were donated to the Tohoku Earthquake reconstruction efforts.
    2) NYOI– 17 January is the anniversary date of the Great Hanshin Earthquake (also known as the Kobe earthquake) which happened 21 years ago. 21 year-old Yuzuru skated ‘The Final Time Traveler’ which is the song written specially for the Hanshin earthquake.]

Before ‘New Year On Ice’, he went to the hospital and had a steroid injection and also took painkillers. After the show, he rested totally for 10 days, but after that, the pain was still there.

At its peak, even walking was painful. The inside of his big toe hurt so much that he started to walk with his ankle turned out. Because of walking in this strange way, other places started to hurt as well.

At the end of Jan, even though it was painful, he could still do the salchow. But soon, he was falling on more and more jumps. It was most painful for the toeloop, then later, there was also pain for the axel, salchow and flip. Only the loop was not painful, so he practised a lot of that and thought of adding a quad loop at Worlds. But in the end, he was falling even on the triple loop. Mid-February, he thought he had to withdraw from Worlds and was in despair.

He had planned to go to Toronto at the end of January but because of the pain, he only went back there at the end of February. It started to get better bit by bit with treatment in Toronto. Except for toeloops, all the other jumps started to come back and his “can-do” spirit also returned. The doctor that was treating him ordered a “toeloop ban” on him, so for 3 weeks he just practised with the other jumps. 2 weeks before Worlds, he did the quad toe for the first time and managed to jump it in a day, but it felt different.

Although the pain still remained, his jumps had returned and he was in good spirits.

    At World Championships:

March 27, he arrived in Boston. The next day was the first practice.

“The 1st day’s practice was good. But from the 2nd day’s practice, my body did not work well. […] Even when I took a painkiller, the pain in my left foot was still there. And my lower back started to hurt. Within that anxiety, there was a matter with another skater. As such, it was a mess inside my head. Various kinds of stress arose and I knew very well that my mental state was dragged away in a different direction. A short program that “there’s no way you can do it in this condition”, but it was clean. (laughs)”

His SP score was 110.56, only 0.39 points short of his own world record at GPF. However, after the SP, his foot got worse and swelled up badly.

“Before the practice on the day of the free programme, I took a painkiller and confirmed that I could jump a quad toeloop even though it’s painful. Because my adrenaline was still running, I was in a constant state of excitement, and those 2 nights before the FP, I could not sleep.”

When he drew turns for the FP at Worlds and he got 2nd to skate, he thought, “ah, I, am finished.” Because he has not had much experience of having good results with 2nd to skate. He has not yet found a good rhythm for skating 2nd.

His mind and body was not yet put in order and he faced the free skate. [………]

“World Championship was really hard. Between the short and the free, the temperature was about 10 degrees different and the ice was melting, but people who can jump, can jump. My body was not in a condition to adapt to all kinds of ice, my mental state was also fluctuating all the time.”

    […….]

“Being 2nd at World Championships, last year I was so regretful and felt very gloomy about it. This year (about a month before Worlds), I kept dreaming about being 2nd in various competitions (laugh), there was not a single dream where I was first. So, when Worlds ended, even though I was really regretful, my mood was refreshed.

Thinking about it again, for last season (2014-2015), what I achieved was I recovered from my injuries (from CoC) and I was restored; that is the impression I have in my mind. This season, I got world record scores, and for the first time, I gave something perfect from within myself at a competition. It’s an important season that gave me a sense of accomplishment.

And also, my exhibition was good. I could put a lot of my feelings into it. The period before this Worlds, I did a lot of polishing on areas related to expression. Because of the pain in my foot, on-ice training was limited. So I practised on land, things like hand movement, ways of putting in emotions, the direction of the legs. For the ‘Requiem of Heaven and Earth’ at Worlds, I could put my feelings into it very well, my body and feelings were in harmony, and I was also one with the music. I finished the performance feeling refreshed.”

During practice for the exhibition, “Ahhh, if I skate this way, it is good,” he found a suitable way to skate on that ice and the skating felt good.

“Although in the end it took about 2 months, at that point in time before Worlds, it was decided that ‘due to the condition of my foot, I will not skate for one month after the competition ends’. ‘Must stay away from skating totally’. As such, with the thought that I cannot skate for one month from now, it was an exhibition where I really felt the joy and pleasure of skating.” […..]

“I think I first skated ‘Requiem of Heaven and Earth’ at Fantasy On Ice in Kanazawa. Many voices said "the Requiem at that time was so painful, it was heart-breaking”.
In fact, I had cried in practice, it was too painful. Especially when I was trying to link with the music completely, the moment I listened to the music, images of the disaster floated to mind…… I felt as if the pain at that time was depicted through me, it was very painful.” [……]

“ ‘My own happiness, it’s in skating’, ‘There is no joy except for skating’, there were times when I thought to that extent. At the start of January, my foot was in pain, and added to that, there were false news reports which made me rather distrustful of people.
(My own note: one terrible gossip mag said he was getting married and rumours spread.) Because of this situation, I was very happy that I could skate in a show. Skating is something done only by my own will. It is a place where no one else can interfere. At that time, I thought about many things. As such, it’s a program with deep meaning for me, ‘Requiem of Heaven and Earth’.”

He talks a bit about this recent season’s skating and jumps in the men’s field, and ends this part by saying he almost did a quad axel at Dreams On Ice and he is still studying how to do it. And “there are no quint jumps yet, but maybe Boyang might be able to do them. (laugh)”

“For men’s figure skating, now is the hottest period, isn’t it? For me, Salt Lake City was still the best Olympics and it was the trigger that started me thinking seriously that “I want to skate!”. In a certain meaning, that kind of time has come again, or it has become that kind of flow and I myself am in it. I am so happy. Until Pyeongchang, how much can I evolve, that will be my challenge from now. I am looking forward to it.”
[this is his last quote in this chapter]

This website also has a rank of best element with the highest GOE like for example 4S, 4T, 3A, 3Lz, Stsq. You can see that Yuzuru has the highest GOE given for most of this element (except for Stsq i think). Javier and Patrick has a few +3 GOE too, namely 4S and 4T for Javi and 4T for patrick.
Unfortunately the website only rank per season's. However another website rinkresults also rank best elements based on GOE for all seasons. However you can only sort up to top 50 i think.

EDIT : actually you can also rank elements for all season too from skateDB. Just change the term on search bar to --- (I only find out now )

There were many Yuzu's 2014 interviews immediately after Sochi where he said even though he won GPF/OGM/Worlds, he wants to improve on his shortcomings, become stronger and push himself further.

    2014 Canon web interview
Interviewer: Once again, what are your feelings on becoming Olympic Champion and World Champion?

Yuzuru: Nothing has changed. My feelings towards skating and my targets have not changed just because I won the Olympic gold medal. The Olympics are just the second most recent competition. As an athlete that continues to skate competitively I want to become stronger, to perform well in competitions. This is how I think. When the new season comes around, there’ll be another World Championships, and at a different venue, in front of a different audience I’ll give a different performance. It’ll be the start of a new season as usual.

    April 2014 Chunichi Newspaper interview
Interviewer: Although you have become number one in the world you continue to say “I can push myself further”.

Yuzuru: The actor who won the Academy Awards this year said “The person I will be 10 years later is my hero”. At the age of 10 it would be myself at 20, when I am 20 my hero would be myself at 30. I was touched by that actor’s words, and I think this is a mindset that would allow one to remain steadfast.

As a skater maybe I would have retired 10 years down the road, but its good to think just one year or half a year ahead. That person I would become by then would be stronger mentally and physically.

Interviewer: As you move forward will your ideals change again?

Yuzuru: To put it simply the distance from my ideal has not shortened. Although I have yet to reach it, winning competitions as part of the process gives me a small sense of achievement. I think I would like to experience a big sense of achievement. Once a target has been set, to have reached it would be to have expended everything.

Even at the time I won the Olympic gold medal I already have another target in a separate place. Pyeongchang awaits. The happiness and joy of being able to do my best would enhance me, wouldn’t it?

Interviewer: In what ways do you want to grow next season?

Yuzuru: I still have too many shortcomings. I will turn 20 this year and the competitive seasons I have left are really numbered. As it will come to an end if I get injured, I want to stay healthy and day by day, just work hard to be able to expand myself in the future.

While Brian takes care of every detail of Javier's training, he will just occasionally check on how Yuzu is doing. Most of the time, it is Yuzu practicing by himself. Yuzu describes Brian's method to him as grazing.

It was very peaceful and mature."

I feel that the Sochi retiring is more like a passing thoughts due to the burned out. In this interview he said "I think, probably, I was burned out after the season ended. But, because there was an ice show only three days after the Worlds, (including other events) and I had other work as well, I did not realize that I was burned out. At ice shows, everyone in the audience would welcome me as the Olympic champion..... After experiencing this, motivation to 'work hard' started to boil. The FS is coming along fine, including the music choice. She didn’t reveal the choreographer for the FS (nor the SP) because she wanted to leave that up to Yuzuru. (uh, Brian?)

I’m glad he is working with DW again. I think it’s a good idea to use any of the sources available at TCC so having him choreograph an ex sounds like an excellent idea.

So, another shorter report of the Talk Event with my rough translation.

Ms. Hasegawa and Ms. Ohkubo (Editor) were on the stage.
They also showed more than 20 photos that had not been released.
The participants could receive presents including posters and "Blue Flame" 1&2 POPs. (So jealous )

They met Yuzu in Toronto in the middle of May. He had icing on his foot, but he did his machine-gun talk vigorously
(As he had not skated for about a month), "I want to skate soon!" "I'm afraid to be back on the ice though ." He talked these very vigorously.
But he has started his training already and it is proceeding smoothly.

    https://twitter.com/yuzuna_sk8/statu...16364669587456

They asked Yuzuru to decide the cover in Toronto in May. Yuzuru and his mother agreed on the one used as the cover actually. Another option was also the Time Traveler (NYOI) used in the inside cover (front page?). For the back cover, they asked to choose from 3 options; praying pose, in black shirt ones in FaOI Kobe last year.

Because it was late, the items were increased, and the interviews were deleted substantially.
    Among them, they (editors) really miss the part;
