Thanks for the quote, Doris! That new program music, for the SP, sounds like an amazing effort. I'm really looking forward to seeing it. How wonderful when skaters can actually commission a piece of music.

As for the Tchaikovsky Manfred, I have some acquaintance with it (the better-known work using Byron's Manfred is Robert Schumann's Manfred Overture), but I'm pleased to see Moskvina branching out and using pieces beyond the tried and true by any particular composer (Swan Lake, in Tchaikovsky's case).

Two interesting points in the commentary below the video:
1. One poster says that this symphony and Tchaikovsky's "Pathetique" (his sixth symphony) are the two most emotionally exhausting Tchaikovsky pieces, which echoes what Moskvina hints at when she says "You won't like it much."
2. It's apparently associated with some anime production or other. An interesting link, considering that Kavaguti is from Japan.

Just for comparison's sake, here's Schumann's Manfred Overture. Wouldn't you love to see a skating program created out of this? Such momentum in the way the music rushes forward, and a lovely melodic richness.
