Really!!! Then did you miss the guy who vomited???

I did see that, poor guy. In the words of Mary, Murphy, "ugh, I wish I didn't see that." But hey, I have kids, one of whom has a sensitive stomach, so vomit is not that big of a deal to me.

I loved the lady dancer from the Joffrey ballet school. I also loved Mary Poppins, she was super and was that FikShun who was dancing with her??

Yes, that was FikShun. He also danced with Cyrus and Legacy and one the auditioners from Kansas.

I had to leave the room for a while and when I came back in the dance had finished. I did a get a quick glance of Cyrus.

I hope Mary Poppins will be on the show, I thought she was just wonderful, not only as a dancer but in her attitude. I just hope she can do the other dances.

Have you seen the commercial with Jasmine...don't remember what the commercial was about but Jasmine looked spectacular.

I agree - I thought Mary Poppins was charming.

Yes, I've seen the commercial with Jasmine, but I don't recall the product either.

I believe one of the below links include the hip hop dance off with Cyrus, Legacy and Fik Shun and the one of Mary Poppins

I also almost forgot about the young lady who is recovering from an eating disorder. So glad, that she got help. Her performance was very moving and Christina Applegate loved it.

For a very interesting and obscure piece of SYTYCD trivia....
I just saw a break dancer named Gev on the Fantasy on Ice show broadcast in Japan. Something about him was so familiar and I couldn't think of where I might have seen him before until I realized that he was a contestant in season 4, and actually made the top 10.

I have decided that I really don't like the auditions phase-I truly sound like a terrible person, but I cringe when I hear some of those sad stories. I get concerned that they are too emotionally fragile to be able to handle rejection at some point of the show(that is assuming that they get a ticket). And I feel so bad for those kids who don't get a ticket, or who don't get past the choreography round, or whatever it is called. Yes, they can work harder and come back next year, make lemonade, but still. Sigh.

I did enjoy seeing Jenna with her guy friend from home, and very glad that she is now a SYTYCD all-star. Looks like we will be seeing some more of her before we see her on DWTS again this fall! Yay!

Just wanted to mention that I caught part of SYTYCD China while lunching in Shanghai. Pretty much the same format. Since the volume was off, I couldn't tell how reactive the judges were during audition.

Jenna from DWTS (troupe) is also from SYTYCD. She is from Utah-where the second girl who got a ticket is from. Mary Murphy said something to the effect that dancers from Utah are very strong in ballroom and contemporary.
For whatever reasons, a lot of dancers are found in Utah. Allyson Holker of season 2 (now married to Twitch of season 4) is from Utah.
A number of ballroom dancers have made it over to DWTS. Lyndsay (pro last season) and Witney (pro this season) both competed 2 or 3 seasons ago on SYTYCD - they knew each other before the show and also were roommates during the show and now are both part of the DWTS troupe.

I've been busy finishing up a project, and I am finally catching up to the last three episodes of the season 11 SYTYCD, along with this thread. Maybe I am a minority here, but I tend to prefer auditions more than the actual competition. I look for contestants who stand out, and/or unique. I enjoy predicting who, among many, are likely to make the top 20. However, because the above quotes caught my attention, I'll see if I can shed some light on them first.

It's true that Utah has a number of excellent dance studios. One of the hottest studios currently is VIBE Dance Studio, which is owned by Mindy Arnold, who is the mother of Lindsey Arnold. Lindsey as you know is the season 9 top 10 finisher, who is also a good friend of Witney Carson, another season 9 top 4 finisher. And you guessed it - Witney was also the graduate of Vibe studio.
Here is a cute video of Witney and Jenna Johnson (the 10th season alumnus & the season 18 DWTS troop member), both of whom are watching the season 3 SYTYCS montage of "Pasha & Sarah" and mimicking their move! http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=R9rGuCauqxI. Oh, and the girl who is video taping is Lindsey.

Vibe studio has been quite successful in producing many past and present SYTYCD participants/contestants. Part of their success owes to their philosophy of producing well-rounded dancers, not just that of ballroom dancing. The studio therefore offers not only ballrooms but juzz, ballet, hip hop, and other genre of dance forms. It appears that fusion of multiple dance forms have been trend for sometimes, and Vibe has been successful at it. A good example is their Hong Kong performance, uploaded in January 2012. The performance very much incorporates ballroom, contemporary, Afro-jazz & hip hop, among others.

You can see at least 6 past and current SYTYCD participants, including the season 8 hip hopper Tadd Gadduang, and three current contestants from the episode 1: Tanisha Belnap (Ballroom fusion). Per Kristyn Burt of Afterbuzz tv SYTYCD, the executive producer Nigel Rythgoe knows her via the TV program "Chance to Dance." Tanisha also appeared on the season 11 of DWTS week 3, "Toxic." There was a music battle between Mark Ballas and Val Chmerkovski; Tanisha danced with Mark. You'll be amazed at how good she already was four years ago. I'd say that she'd make the top 20.

Brooklyn Fullmer & Marcouet Hill are another couple auditioned from Vibe studio. Marcouet was Witney Carson's partner 2 seasons ago, and Lindsey Arnaold is a good friend of Brooklyn. Will they make it to the top 20? I'm not certain about Brooklyn. She does not appear to stand out as much as Eastern European dancers of the later episodes (will get into them later). I am pretty certain either Marcouet or Landon Anderson, who appeared on the 3rd episode with his partner, Jenna Johnson, will make it to the top 20.

Landon Anderson partnered Jenna for her last year's audition, and Jenna returned the favor by partnering him this year. Together with Jenna, Landon holds many regional and national titles in Latin ballroom dancing. As an owner's son, Landon grew up in his mother's Charisma Dance Studio, another prominent dance studio in Utah. Just like Vibe, Charisma studio offers not only ballroom dance training, but also Ballet, Jazz, Contemporary, Lyrical & Hip Hop.

Finally, the season six contestants Ryan & Ashleigh Di Lello are both ballroom instructors of Charisma. It appears dance community is as small and as close-knit as the skating community. ;)

Ok, onto Eastern European/Russian ballroom dancers next. Whew!

Denise Wall had both sons Travis and Danny finish in the top 2 of their respective seasons, as well as Jamie Goodwin (season 3 - most memorable program was with Hok as they performed Hummingbird and Flower.)

Dance really is a small world.

Exactly! Here's Mindy Arnold' twitter account: https://twitter.com/vibemom. You can see Nigel Rythgoe, Sharlie Ballas, Kristyn Burtt and others all follow each other on their SM.

Also, if you wonder why many of SYTYCD contestants end up on DWTS, it turns out that both shows record at the same studio! Here is an excellent article featuring Nigel Rythgoe (SYTYCD executive director) and Tom Bergeron (DWTS host): http://variety.com/2014/tv/news/qa-...rgeron-on-the-state-of-reality-tv-1201219384/

Hilarious take away from the article, '"So You Think You Can Dance With the Stars. It’s like Batman and Superman in the same movie!,” joked Bergeron.' (bold and emphasis are mine). :biggrin:

The episode 3 (6/11/14) featured two European ballroom couples: one is Alla Kocherga(24) & Serge Onik (25); the other is Malene Ostegaard (25) & Armen Way (28).

Alla Kocherga & Serge Onik: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=kqbVi-wt_MM
They both are Ukrainians who came to the States very early in their lives, have danced competitively and are now involved in Ballroom with a Twist tour.

Serge in particular has been mentored by Maks Chmerkovskiy since he is 12. He is now also an instructor of Dance with Me studios, which are co-owned by Tonny Dovolani, Val & Maks Chmerkowskiy of DWTS fame. In case if you are wondering, yes, Meryl Davis is acquainted with Serge as it is shown by the following twitter exchange: https://twitter.com/Meryl_Davis/status/477186779372482560 https://twitter.com/sergeonik/status/477188492137488384

Both Alla and Serge also appeared on DWTS:
Serge - http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=WDGme6jUlmA
Alla: http://www.dailymotion.com/video/x1...dancing-with-the-stars-ballroom-battle_people

Serge went all the way up to the Green mile the last season, and there is a good chance that Serge would make it to the top 20 per people at AfterbuzzTV folks. http://site.afterbuzztv.com/cat_shows/so-you-think-you-can-dance-afterbuzz-tv-aftershow/ Alla may also have a good chance, as she has an extensive ballet training in addition to her ballroom skills.

Malene Ostegaard (25) & Armen Way (28): http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=saoluH5_2fo
They both are very skilled ballroom dancers as you can see. Of course they also appeared on DWTS: http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=mHuKWZDu_Cg

However, Armen will not be considered for the top 20 as he signed up for the Julianne and Derek Hough's "Move Live on Tour:" http://www.gettyimages.com/detail/n...o/450603846?referrer=http://www.puredwts.com/
The tour currently is schedule to run till July 26, 2014 involving in over 40 cities in the US.

Incidentally Move Live on Tour turns out to be a "massive SYTYCS alumni employment program," as it involves:
Jason Glover (top 8, season 5);
Kayla Radomski (4th place, season 5) - she I am not too certain though;
Ashley Galvan (7th place, season 7);
Hayley Erbert (top 6, season 10);
Brittany Cherry (top 20, season 10). Interestingly, Brittany was the partner of Serge the last year. She made it to the top 20, but Serge did not.

You are welcome! Serge also have some sharp moves like Val, along with resorting to the similar hairstyle as Val. ;)

P.S.: Per Krystin Burtt, we will likely see a lot more hip hop contestants today, as we move onto Atlanta auditions. Atlanta apparently is the home of some of the best hip hop dance crews. :)

You are welcome. Krystin implied that SYTYCD folks are not necessarily happy with the leak...;)

Anyway, it could be completely wrong, but we would have to watch the show to find out, wouldn't we?:p Or may be that's the whole point. :biggrin:

I guess we do have to find out by watching :) I actually don't mind her spoilers since I like most of the dancers she listed

Anyway, Tara Lipinski is helping out the judges! Quite interesting :think:
