OMG! It's a shock. I'm so sorry, don't know what to say. Speachless.

WHY isn't more progress being made in the treatment of spinal injuries and diseases?

WHY isn't more progress being made in the treatment of spinal injuries and diseases?

Because of a mixture of ignorance, skepticism, and monetary costs. There was a huge debate about the ethical use of stem cells (mainly from religious groups) in the late 90's and that delayed our scientific advancements by more than a decade.

It must be especially hard on her as a former athlete..

Sorry to hear the news. I hope some miracle for her recovery. I look up to her when I was growing up. Same age same sport.

Just heartbreaking.

Yes, why don't we do more research into such things? I know that cost is one part of it, but once the breakthrough is made, it will save billions (in any currency) on daily care for untold numbers of people. As usual, we are penny wise, pound foolish.
