    Music Questionnaire

Since I added to the many threads about skating music on here yesterday, I thought it would be appropriate to start a thread asking the questions everybody asks about music.

    1. What is your favourite band/group?
Easy. Queen (…closely followed by Led Zeppelin)

    2. Who is your favourite solo singer?
Had to think over this question for a long time. There are so many I like. And in the end I couldn’t make a decision. So I gave up and went for the person who I have the most albums for: Robbie Williams

    3. Who is your favourite composer?
Mmmm. Again, there are so many I like. So, I’ll take the easy way out: Piotr Tchaikovsky. [If you know anything about Tchaikovsky’s family background, you’ll understand why this may be seen as a total cop-out. But, to be fair, the “1812 Overture” is one of my favourite classical pieces, so it’s not that much of a cop-out…]

    4. What is your favourite song?
Another easy one. “Bohemian Rhapsody” by Queen (…closely followed by “Stairway To Heaven” by Led Zeppelin)

    5. What is your favourite classical piece?
If we count National Anthems, then definitely “Österreich” (more commonly known as the tune for “Deutschland Über Alles”) by Josef Haydn.
If not, probably “Pomp And Circumstance March No. 1” (more commonly known as the tune for “Land Of Hope And Glory”) by Edward Elgar.

    6. What is the first album you bought?
“Honey To The B” by Billie Piper

    7. What is the first single you bought?
“Thank Abba For The Music” by Steps, Tina Cousins, Cleopatra, B*Witched and Billie Piper [Medley of ABBA songs performed by these acts at the 1999 BRIT Awards]

    8. What is the last album you bought?
“Back To Black” by Amy Winehouse [No, it wasn’t as long ago as 2006 since I last bought an album. I bought it after she died]

    9. What is the last single you bought?
“I’m Falling” by Chelsey Chambers [girl I know from Moneymore, a village 5 miles away from me]

This sort of thread has proved to be very popular any time they have been done in the past. So I hope you all have a lot of fun with this one.

    Over to you

I love the Britpop invasion in the 90s. The groups like Oasis, Pulp, Suede, The Verve, Stereophonics and Manic Street Preachers are my kind of music.

Robbie Williams is the coolest artist on the planet. I went to TT concert in Brighton(did A-level in E.Sussex at the time) just to see RW (one of the last stints with the band). His Swing When You're Winning is my most all-time favourite.

David Usher From Canadian Band "Moist" is also my favourite. Prefer his solo career a bit more than with the band.

Female artists: The Corrs, Norah Jones, Sade, Celtic Woman.

    The Beatles, Steeleye Span

    2. Who is your favourite solo singer?
I have a lot. Joan Baez, Judy Collins, Tommy Körberg (of Sweden), Judy Garland, and many others; edited to add John Denver, Gordon Lightfoot, Willie Nelson, and Canadian troubador Stan Rogers.

    5. What is your favourite classical piece?
So many: Dvorak's Third, Fifth, and Sixth Symphonies, a lot of his chamber music, Brahms's symphonies and chamber music, Vaughan Williams's Sea Symphony and Fantasia on a Theme of Thomas Tallis, Rachmaninoff's Second Symphony, Sibelius's Spring Song and choral work Kullervo, Borodin's Second Quartet for strings, Rimsky Korsakov's music for many of his operas, plus his symphony Antar.

    9. What is the last single you bought?
    Haven't bought any in awhile.

Ok, I'm going to cheat like mad because I love music and books more than anything in the world (my apartment looks like Barnes & Noble thought it would be cool to open a local boutique).
NB: This is a wayyyyyyyyyyyyyyyyyyyyyyyyyyyyyyyyyy partial list.

    Favorite solo singer
Maura O'Connell, Sandy Denny, Mary Black, Linda Thompson (with and without her genius ex-hubbie Richard), Peggy Lee, Billie Holiday, Ella Fitzgerald, Anita O'Day, Morrissey, Dayna Kurtz, Jens Lekman, Marshall Crenshaw, Janis Ian, Emmylou Harris< Johnny Cash, Kirsty MacColl

It is very hard to reach Sinatra's level but Robbie did them in his own style. I love his version of My Way. http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=_4DJMPGNiD0&feature=kp
His attitude made the song special in a unique way. Too bad there isn't studio version for the song. Apart from Sinatra's version, I love Elvis' too.

Did you know Robbie was a figure skater when he was a kid? It was his idea to have one of his MV to have a skating theme:http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=sVaRHJn_dgM&feature=kp

Those are borderline hipster selections Mrs. P. I'm glad to see someone else knows who the Kings of Convenience are. I'm still thinking about my choices.....favorite song is too hard for me to say. So many Backstreet Boys songs to choose from ya know.

UGGGGHHH!!! I'm not trying to be hipster, I promise! Maybe I should put more K-pop/hip-hop to balance out my hipster selections. :P
