So far, only the Ice Dance Standings have been updated to remove the retired and split couples (or at least most of them). The other disciplines haven't been updated as yet.

1 DAVIS / WHITE
2 VIRTUE / MOIR
3 BOBROVA / SOLOVIEV
4 CAPPELLINI / LANOTTE
5 WEAVER / POJE
6 CHOCK / BATES
7 ZHIGANSHINA / GAZSI
8 HUBBELL / DONOHUE
9 SHIBUTANI / SHIBUTANI
10 GILLES / POIRIER

12 ZLOBINA / SITNIKOV
13 PAPADAKIS / CIZERON

^glad to see the updating has begun!

It's pretty impressive the US has 4 teams in the top 10. Obviosly D/W and V/M won't stay at the top for too much longer once the season is under way since they won't competing, but I think worlds this year really set the stage for the battle this coming season for ice dance supremacy. Chock and Bates are starting to knock on the door of that worlds medal stand. I wonder if we'll see them take any grand prix's this year?

Truth be told though, I'm looking forward to a W/P vs. C/L season.

Also on a side note I was looking at pairs rankings and I realized that once the get rid of the retired and split teams that puts Scimeca and Knierim in at least 6th. I wonder if they can stay healthy this year and live up to that ranking.

The shock here is that despite competing the past 2 years and scoring well at Worlds this year, Abbott is ranked below three other US men, and is only just ahead of one other.

OTOH, Aaron, Abbott, and Brown are the top three U.S. men in the ISU Season's World Rankings as of Apr 3. They are clustered closely together.

12 1361 Max AARON 574 324 213 250 0
13 1347 Jeremy ABBOTT 787 324 236 0 0
14 1328 Jason BROWN 517 324 262 225 0

Also worth mentioning regarding both lists is that Aaron, Brown, Dornbush, and Farris earned points from Senior Bs, whereas Abbott did not.

It is also worth mentioning that Jason and Josh were in Juniors in the 2012-2013 season, where points per event are less than in comparable senior events.

Also worth considering that Aaron had no GPs, only Senior Bs, the previous season, and that he did not go to the Olympics.

Absolutely.

And that Jason had no opportunity to go to Worlds this year. And Max had no opportunity to do Olympics.

:agree: Yes.

Absolutely.

True, and I dearly wish that both Max and Jason could have had both opportunities.

But ... in the narrow context of the ISU lists, Jeremy did not get double points by competing at both 2014 Worlds and the 2014 Olympics. Skaters receive standings/ranking points for only one or the other in the same season.

I am going to try to keep my big mouth shut in this thread now and to stay out of trouble ;). The bottom line for me is that I am really excited at the bright futures for both Max and Jason. And if Jeremy has more medals in him, good for him.

Well, I'll say it: Jeremy ought to be mighty worried that Max, who did not get the Olympics and had no GPs last season, is ahead of him, and Jason, who had only JGPs last season, is immediately behind him, and that Joshua, who only managed to finish one GP this season and was a junior the season before, is well within striking distance (and before Worlds, was actually immediately behind Jeremy).

But then again, none of that means a thing. It's a new season. Everything is up for grabs. You want it? Skate for it.

Bingo. Which is why it's going to be an exciting season, a different kind of excitement than an Olympic season, but an exciting season nonetheless.

Kovtun posted this ranking on his Instagram http://instagram.com/p/p-3kteiBdv/ already 5th!

What Kovtun means is that he is fifth on the Season's World Ranking list (not on the World Standings list).

Just trying to keep things straight for myself (and maybe others) b/c the thread title pertains to World Standings.

Here's the ladies:

7. Kostner (retired) 2762

AFAIK, Kostner has said only that she is not competing this season (as opposed to announcing permanent retirement).

So if(??) the ISU is on the verge of updating the ladies WS to reflect retirements (as it already did for dance, per the OP), I do not think Kostner's name will be removed.

What's the difference between world standing and world ranking? Why do we need both?

Per ISU Communication No. 1629 (published in July 2010), the contrasting objectives are:

ISU World Standings
To present an objective and accountable standings system for all skaters in Single & Pair Skating and Ice Dance during a particular season which takes into account the results of the preceding two seasons ensuring that skaters who were unable to compete for a certain period of time remain in the World Standings and are considered according to their true basic competitiveness. The ISU World Standings are used as basis for all draws in ISU Events as well as one of the skaters selection criteria for the ISU Grand Prix of Figure Skating and other ISU Events designated by the Council.

ISU Season's World Ranking
To present to the public at large and the media, an acceptable and accountable standings system of all skaters in Single & Pair Skating and Ice Dance for the current season giving an indication of the current actual competitiveness of the skaters [emphasis is in the original ISU document].
As this ranking order does not protect skaters who were unable to participate in events of the previous season(s), only the World Standings System as introduced under paragraph A. of this Communication shall be used as the basis for the draws at ISU Event and as a critieria for the skaters selection for the ISU Grand Prix of Figure Skating and other ISU Events designated by the Council.
