So they'll work with Zueva for the summer and see how it goes.

Sad to hear that.

It doesn't appear from sources, including the above article that it's just for the summer. It appears pretty permanent. And Alba, I agree, it's sad. She's going to turn them into more of her robots with the same movement, and same stylings. She should have concentrated on making the Shibs better now that she doesn't have Meryl/Charlie and Tessa/Scott to fuss about, but apparently that's not going to happen. At this point the Shibs need to go to Igor or Krylova if they want to get anywhere. Just my 2 cents.

MOSCOW, July 26 - R-Sport, Anatoly Samohvalov. Russian figure skating coach Marina Zueva said the agency "R-Sport," which began its cooperation with current European and world champions in ice dancing Anna Cappellini and Luca Lanotte.

Zuev is the coach of the Russian duo Victoria Sinitsina and Nikita Katsalapova. Russians and Italians, as well as an American couple Maia and Alex Shibutani are trained at the rink skating International Academy in Detroit.

"With me began to work Anna Cappellini and Luca Lanotte, while cooperation is planned for the current summer, as will be seen, because the first time I do this with a couple of experienced," - said in a telephone conversation Zuev.

The specialist explained the specifics of joint activities with the skaters. "The concept of a program for the duo is, our task - to improve the technical details and improve their style. Guys want to look anew, with a statement of performance, so we are looking for a new stylistic direction," - she added.

........(there is more but it's just recapping things)

I fully agree with your 2 cents.
I really do not understand this move. Yes, Scali is with Zueva and he might help a bit more in terms of creativity, but Anna and Luca did not have problems with their style. I mean from the artistic point of view they were fine, IMO. Their weakness was technical and Shpilband it's much better than Zueva and they did improved a lot under him.
Besides, Zueva's priority will be S&K.

I'm really surprised she's taking them on, and it only suggests to me that she doesn't think much of some of her current teams. She already has 4 senior teams, and while the Reeds are really a "2nd tier" team, you would think that the Shibs, Sinitsina/Katsalapov and I guess Aldridge/Eaton would all be hoping to be contending for medals this season & wouldn't want to see their coach taking on another team that is their direct competition. We saw in the last 2 seasons that it didn't work for v/M having the same coach as D/W, and also to an extent with P/B leaving Krylova as W/P improved to challenge P/B. And that's only with two teams at the same level, this is 3, maybe 4 teams! So does this mean that she's given up on the Shibs completely? or are S/K not working out as she would have wanted?

I'm not thrilled about the move for C/L, I think they are creative enough to withstand being turned into another Zoueva clone, but the main area that they still need help on is technique for Anna's basic stroking, and levels in the step sequence in general, and Marina hasn't for me shown that she's a great technical coach without Igor.

:agree: Exactly. Here I thought other teams were safe since Marina snatched up S&K to be her new bigtime team, but I guess not. :scowl:

Yes, it really looks like Zoueva doesn't want to focus on the Shibs :bang: Well, their style was almost always the same during the last couple of years, so a bit of a change stylistically is not bad... but not Zoueva!! :slink:

I really hope that when the Shibs get back from Japan that they'll announce a coaching switch (let me dream )

Well Zueva announced that Charlie White will be working as some kind of consultant for the Shibs, so I dont' see any move in the future,it sounded a bit like a strategic announcement to boost their status. But obviously, she's still searching for her next stars

The only reason that I can see for this move is that maybe Paola Mezzadri is retiring? I don't know....

Probably..Wasn't she hinting she will retire and that she was disappointed?

For obvious reasons C/L can't go to Krylova, their direct competitors are there, so Zueva is a good option.

If your point is that Weaver/Poje are with Krylova, I don't see that as an obvious reason not to go there.

Both C/L and Pechalat/Bourzat were with Shpilband at the same time, right?

This was exactly my thought. :)

Meanwhile, who remains with Shpilband at this point?

Chock/Bates and Moore/Klaber ... and ??

The Novi ice dancers have been giving free exhibitions on the past two Friday afternoons, but I wonder who has performed.

But they were already working with Shpilband as well as Mezzadri, why not just stay with him?

Everyone asking for the Shibs to change coach, they won't go anywhere until they've finished at UMich.

BTW, another new senior Zoueva couple seems to be the new partnership of Taylor Tran and Saulius Ambrulevičius, who will skate for Lithuania.

Tran and her partner are training in Canton, per the caption to photo #7 in IN's "Backstage at Skate Detroit" gallery. (Thx to Sylvia for flagging that IN had posted the gallery.)

IFS has a little bit of background on the new Lithuanian partnership.

Other pre-existing senior Zoueva couples are the Hasegawas and Aronow/Brubaker.
