Predictions For Placings at the Grand Prix Events?

Wasn't there no ! last year (and everyone got e or nothing)? Since Yulia only sometimes gets e, I think that'll translate into ! under the new rules. Someone like Mao, who always gets e, would likely get e under the new rules.

But Gracie almost always get e's for flips and she got ! at nebelhorn.

Not only that, she got positive GOE! It was a very difficult entry into that. It's the first time this season I've seen a "e" or "!" in a protocol get positive GOE (although I'm sure there've been other instances). But you look at Gracie's lip, and yes, it SHOULD be getting at least 5 points for the execution of it, never mind the lip. Similar to how Medvedeva's tano flutz deserves at least 5 points even with the flutz.

I think an "e" from last year is now a "!" for top-ranked flutzers... only the most egregious flutzes are getting the edge call, it seems. However, a tech specialist can absolutely nail a skater if they want to with an edge call costing around 3 points. It's an inevitability.... this new rule will screw at least some skaters out of a medal.

Speaking of Gold... I wonder how many people are hitting the panic button on Skate America? I thought with home ice Gold would be a sure shot, and even thought Nagasu had a chance at the podium. I'm almost certain with the shape Gold's jumps are in that Radionova will defeat her, and if Tuktamysheva has another solid outing, she'll also defeat Gold. She should make the podium barring disaster, and barring a lights out skate from Park.

And then with the shape Edmunds is in and Sotnikova being the reigning OGM, Gold will have her work cut out for her to win NHK, too.

Obviously, Nebelhorn is just one competition, but maybe Gold isn't as fly as some people (not mentioning names...) have thought.

Gracie will get a PCS boost at SA. But if Nebelhorn is any indication, it looks like the judges are ready to reward Liza when she skates well (I was afraid they'd show her to door and give her rock-bottom PCS no matter how she skates). Gracie should podium at both her events, barring a major meltdown, and that should be enough to make the GPF. How well she does at GPF is another matter... but I doubt anyone was betting on her to win that even before Nebelhorn.

Well, we all know one person was. She will indeed get a PCS boost at SA, and I would be even unsurprised if her lip was overlooked. But if she makes the same errors as Nebelhorn, she might be toast. Her 3-3 isn't what it used to be... in one of the Nebelhorn practices, she was barely rotating the 3T. Then again, NHT might be a good experience for her to get out of the way and motivate her to be a solid headiner at Skate America. I have faith in her that she'll bounce back, but I still think Radionova will likely beat her.

The GPF will be interesting... could very well be a Russian sweep. Although I'm guessing Edmunds will play spoiler.

I think it is a toss-up. Elena R had a great first season, but a lot of the ladies have great first seasons. I don't expect we will see clean programs as consistently from Elena now, since she has more pressure from expectation and the possibility of a WC spot. I think the PCS difference between Liza and Gracie will be much wider than it was at Nebelhorn, and if Gracie skates a bit better she will have a substantial cushion. Personally I expect Gracie to win and would be a bit surprised if she didn't.

I actually agree with your prediction, and it is certainly strange to predict Coomes/Buckland making it to the final, but they actually have the only two events where neither the Shibs nor H/D (the only couples that, except for the "Big 3", can be considered almost sure to make it to the GPF) are entered, so a Silver in either Russia or Japan is possible! (we still have to evaluate these new misterious couples, though)

Yeah, until Russia gets it together, The home of Ice Dance is firmly in North America.

Ive had a think.
My GPF Ice Dance Predictions. With Bobrova/Soloviev out for their first assignment (ruling them out from the final), I doubt that we will have any Russians in this years GPF. However, once Russia's ice dance teams get back into the swing of things, we will definitely be seeing them ALOT more. This will be the first season since I began to follow skating where Tessa/Scott and Meryl/Charlie are not there so i'm not sure how am I going to feel about dance this season.

Chock/Bate
Weaver/Poje
Cappellini/Lanotte
Shibutanis
Coomes/Buckland
Hubbell/Donohue

It will be a boring GPF without at least one of the russian teams. I think S/K will surprise us, or judges will surprise us.

I think I beats Z in my very untrained in the ice dance discipline opinion! Whoever is better between S vs Z could be the difference? Is this wrong to view it this way. I must admit that Elena has me very biased so...take it for what you will.

S/K test-skated for RusFed yesterday. Gorshkov doesn't sound happy. In fact, he's not happy at all.

I updated the post of mine that you quoted. It should have read like this. I beats K but I.M.H.O. whoever is better between S and Z is really going to be the difference . Does that make more sense. :bang:

Yes. Much more sense now :) Technically I/Z > S/K (at least individually). But I still think that S/K will be more successfull because of particular reasons.

Maybe I/Z will be able to save ice dance after all.

With B/S temporarily out with injury we may see W/P, C/B, C/L on the podium at Worlds. I think they should cancel ice dance, at least this season

B/S will compete at Worlds. At least they're planning to.

And I agree about cancellation  But only seniors, please. :)
