I really liked the first part of Edwsrds & Pang's fd. It looked much smoother thsn in the ladt outing.

Loboda & Drozd, Giselle.

There was something tbat did not look right about their twizzles.

And they were behind the music in the fast part. Nice little ballet jumps, and Loboda looks appropriately mad Z Giselle.

Probably the most appealing program they have had.

I'm glad to see you say that , doris, because I would have had L/D second here too. There's something too frantic about them in the fast bits . I felt that in between hitting a pose , where you'd see nice lines ,things got a bit scrambly.

And I also thought E/P looked much more comfortable and together than in France. I like that program for them - very natural feeling.

I find lots to like in the Parsons but ( I know this is a matter of taste ) I feel they over use those Linichuk-ish sort of lifts ( striking pose , give the audience a good long look ). One in a program makes a memorable highlight, but the more there are , the more it begins to seem like they are the whole object of the exercise.

I was very pleased for Collins and Firus. I thought they did really well for having such a short time together. (She'll have to work to match his fluidity.)

I really enjoyed P/B ( there's a set of initials to live up to

) and thought there was some very nice stuff in their Swan Lake program.

As for K/B .. after the opening section ( which had some nice Sylphide-ish touches), I found really a lot to dislike in this program - seemed laboured, and don't ask me what the point was in the angsty section.. I'm quite surprised that they finished ahead of P/B. I know it was close, still... I didn't think that was a well deserved finish.

L/D were best today for my biased eye. Judges also agree. But they lost one level on twizzles and it costed them 1st place overall. No big deal, they will win next time.

I wonder if any of US pairs will make it to GPF. I don't see this happen tbh.
L/D, E/P, B/M, M/Z, P/V, D/L and Y/M have biggest chances. Russia vs Canada. what do you think?

I like loboda/drozd too. To me they are visibly the most talented but unfortunately it wasn't their night. Something very " airy" I like about them. Edwards and Pang deserved the win but she is the star of the team and I only notice her during their dances. Not good.

The judges gave L&D level 3 on steps, and I would have made it level 2, which would have given E&P the FD win.
Coincidentally, it would also have given the Parsons second place.

However, the tech panel had a different camera angle than the youtube vids.

I think it depends on how the next three events go. Estonia has Bent/MacKeen vs. Moore/Klaber vs. Yanovskaya/Mozgov which I could see Moore/Klaber medalling but not sure about enough to qualify. Also, last year B/M had 1st at their first event but had issues at their second event, so who knows.. Germany has Popova/Vlasenko vs. Delmaestro/Lum vs. McNamara/Carpenter, and I think M/C have a high chance for the US to spoil a Russia/Canada final. Their PB is 7 points above what they got at their first event this season, and higher than either of the other two teams'. While this doesn't mean that they'll beat them necessarily, it shows they have a chance. They were behind P/V by less than a point, and there's an even smaller margin between them and D/L so it's a matter of scores. Then in Croatia, there's Morozova/Zhirnov vs. Parsons/Parsons vs. Yanovskaya/Mozgov. Y/M's prospects will depend on how they do in Estonia, but they have a good record. I agree with almost everything you said. But I think Y/M have JGPF spot on lock. Even with their possible mistakes, they're out of the league. Then both L/D and E/P already have 28 points. 3 finalists so far.
B/M and M/Z have 15 points. While all american pairs have 11 points. So that means 2 places difference. M/Z have easy competition in Croatia. Y/M will be 1st there, and P/P and M/Z will fight for 2-3 places. So even if M/Z will lose to P/P they still will be higher in the JGP rating (26 vs 24 points).
Same situation with B/M in Estonia. Y/M will most likely win, when B/M and M/K will compete for 2-3 place. And even with bronze medal B/M will be higher than M/K.
So it's 5 finalists.
And Germany will be deciding event for sixth spot in JGPF. P/V (13 points), D/L (13 points) and M/C (11 points) will fight for the gold medal. The winner most likely will be JGPF finalist. My bet here on D/L, but it's possible that M/C will win. I personally don't like M/C's FD this year.
Of course anything could happen (mistakes, missed elements, falls, injuries etc.) But most likely scenario for me is that Y/M, L/D, E/P, M/Z, B/M and D/L will be JGP finalists. Although it will be more interesting if any US pair would qualify to the final too. I prefer Moore/Klaber, but their chances are lowest IMO.
We'll see anyway.

Just finished watching this event too, and Edwards/Pang are still my favourites: their FD is just beautiful, fluid and emotional, with a wonderful musical selection, and a very "Canadian" style, reminding me a bit of Virtue/Moir's lyrical programs; they keep receiving low levels for their step sequences despite having everything else top notch, so they definitely have something to work on for the final, they almost lost the event for the second time to Loboda/Drozd because of those step sequences!
The Russians looked better than in France to me: very intricate program, with more transitions than the Canadians, but maybe a bit too difficult to interpret for a junior couple :think:
The Parsons didn't really excite me: their PCS should have been way lower than E/P's and L/D's for me, the program itself is good but they didn't really skate it as they could have, they looked energy-less (but maybe it's just the low-quality video :biggrin:
