Yulia is a bit better. She has gained 1 kg.

Here is a link to todays video interview with Julia. It shows her walking around in her hospital room etc.

This is the translation, thanks to TAHbKA: From Russia with love [#14]: Summer to Autumn 2014

An extract:

Antipova: `I now feel much better, I gained during the week 1kg, I came here weighting 25, now am 26.5, I now wake up and wash my face and feel some flesh on my bones. It's not like people who have anorexia who like the way they look. It's not my case. I like gaining weight right now, am getting back to life'
[skipping half an hour of an unrelated trash]
host: `I would like to let the girl who is fighting for her life right now to say some final words to wrap up the show'
Antipova: `I would like to thank everyone who supports me, it's very important for me, it stimulates me to become better. I turn to everyone asking for help, the prices in Israel are much higher and we don't have such an amount'

And the reaction of the federation, thanks to TAHbka as well:

Gorshkov: `The talk show with the cry for the money came out of blue. I don't know who are the people who are asking for 1M rubles. As I said, should Yulia need a treatment abroad the federation has enough means to send the skater to any hospital in the world.'

Kogan: `Antipova spent all this time and still is in the hospitals in Moscow. Her health is monitored by the doctors who we are in a constant contact with. According to the specialists right now there is no need for her to be hospitalized abroad. Should such hospitalization be needed the RFSF has all the means to solve that problem'

^My God! She was waiting 25kg?! She is 1.57m, she at least should weight the double of that.

Yep, that's why her life was in danger. Still, there is a lot to be done, becuase at this weight organs could easily shut down.
But there is an improvement and I hope for the best.

I´m watching the video (took forever to upload), I´m in shock in how they let it go to that level? She is just skin and bones. Being graphic, I have only seem a person like that watching pictures of suvivors from a concentration camps, or very poor countries where there is not a thing to eat. (sorry for the image).

She still looked like she have some muscle at Worlds, how to you get at this level in just 6 months?

In the articles from the introduction said that people tried to stop her, but now it looks to me that they let it advance way to much before looking for professional help for this poor girl.

Julia certanly needs help, but the people that was involve in the care of this girl should be investigated. No human being should be force or abuse to a point where he/she think is necessary to get to this level. Hope the Russian Federation (and all federations for that matter) take a better care of their skaters.

I think Lisa Earvin quite skating years ago (early 1990's) due to an eating disorder. SHe just disappeared after finishing on the US podium....

On SYTYCD tryouts this year, there was a dancer who admitted that she took a 2 year break from dancing to deal with her eating disorder. Her audition piece was very moving as it conveyed how she still felt broken inside.

As for how her condition can get so bad, initially, people don't neccessarily realize that the person has a problem. They just think the person is dieting. The person is encouraged because they hear the compliments or, in some cases, negativity (i.e. you look great, but you could still lose more.) Initially, the weight loss probably does aid in athletic performance - so, people don't discourage. Then your body reaches the tipping point and the slide on the downhill side progresses a lot faster than the upward slope towards eating disorder. By the time it gets to where performance is disrupted, it's usually too late - even if coaches and family say 'you can't participate anymore', the person is still in denial - until that denial stops, then they can't get better.

I just hope that she and others get the help they need and find the strength before they do irreversible harm to their long term health.

I'm not an expert but I suppose it goes down very quickly when you reach the point of no return.
Come to think about it, afterwards of course, her skin colour at worlds was not good. She was really pale.
At the time I noticed but I thought maybe that's her natural skin colour or the costume. She had a white costume, if I'm not mistaken?

I can't watch the video. It makes me tear up just reading the words here by fellow GS posters. Prayers for Julia to find strength and hope.

You're right, after a point it just spirals out of control, being hungry became "normal" to me at a point, it's more of a mental disorder, your mind becomes skewed and it messes up your eating habits, it's complicated but there are certain behaviours and stuff that people do that might seem like they are helping will only fuel the fire so maybe people noticed and tried to help but it only made it worse

She was so beautiful before, it's going to be grueling and hard, I'm hoping that she will get better and come back to skating

It bothers me that it seems like they are exploiting her to be some side-show (I don't understand Russian - but the whole video-ing her in the hospital seems wrong); is the best thing for her to really have it documented and broadcast it across the country how sick she got?

How was it able to get this far? I know in the U.S. in the event someone is extremely thin to the point of it being detrimental they can be forcibly tube-fed.

I was thinking both if these things. Not sure she would be stable enough emotionally to deal with her struggles being broadcast nationally (and thanks to the internet, anywhere in the world). And I really do wonder how she got THAT thin. She couldn't have been able to skate at any decent level for at least a little while before she was hospitalized. Makes me wonder what her parents, partner, and coaching team were thinking. I know elite athletes really want to win, but risking your life....you have to draw the line somewhere. Now I just hope she gets the help and support she needs.

In the video I noticed that picture of her, in the bikini. So beautiful and a perfect body.
I think poeple like me, who never had such problems, can't even begin to understand how does this illness work (in theory yes), and what people who are affected by it thinks or feel. I'm so sorry.

It's a tv show, we all know hoe this works. However, I do think that it might help somebody. At least I hope so.

Well, maybe that's what they did.
She has been reported as sick months ago, so it didn't happened in the last weeks. As Krunchii said, maybe people tried to help but it only made it worse. Who knows....

Well, according to the article linked by Icey, this is what her coach Artur Dimitriev said:

"the health of Julia & egrave, the main priority & agrave ;. sporting career & egrave; something that has its own weight, but Health & egrave; pi & ugrave; important. Antipova / Maisuradze, ended the season, they worked on the choreography of the new programs and on May 16 they took a vacation period. On 9 June in Sochi, & egrave; started a training camp , which for & ograve; Julia has not taken initially part of being engaged with gi school exams. Si & egrave, then joined the group a week later, but when & egrave; arrived in Sochi & egrave; presented rather thin. could weigh 5 or 6 km. in less time than usual, even though I had asked her to put on a bit '' weight before training camp. Once we got to the ice rink, the doctor present there told me that Julia was not in physical condition to train. At this point we contacted the parents by offering to bring the girl to specialized doctors, but they said it was their turn to take care of her. So, they tracorso few days in Sochi with Julia after which 'they sent her on vacation with her sister. However, the situation & egrave; further degenerated and only then turned to a doctor who advised hospitalization. In fact, Julia is in hospital by the end of July. "

So, by this I gather that the last time Julia did any training was 15th May. And that in mid-June when she was to resume training, the doctor said that she was in no fit condition to do so.

I really hope she gets the help she needs and in peace. life is tough enough as it is and it would be nice to see her skating again for herself free of this horrible disease. Yes, I sadly aamzed by her deteoriation. I am a bit shocked how she has become almosta side show as described by one poster. I suppose if she can help others that is somewhat good but she needs to do what is best for her first right now.

Just wanted to let you know about an update on Julia's condition from a French Jewish website on Sunday:

http://www.lemondejuif.info/2014/10...espoir-sauver-patineuse-russe-yulia-antipova/

Basically, she is still in a very serious state. There are a number of photos of Julia included, and she looks scarily thin. The story itself says that she now only weighs TWELVE KILOGRAMMES!!!

So, even though the Grand Prix Series is the main thing on our minds at the moment, I think we need to remember that one of skating's young stars is still seriously ill.

Our thoughts are with you Julia.
