Maybe Germany doesn't want to fund a team whose future is uncertain since both aren't German. That's a reasonable position imo.

Maybe the German Fed. doesn't want to compromise their rules (about the Stasi thing) and pour money into a skater's Hail Mary attempt at an OGM - and OGM that is highly unlikely to happen - there are too many factors that are against them on it.

That's my memory. I really wanted them to land that triple axel and then bleck! Splat on the ice. And it was over. There appears to be room though in the skating world for Alion and her partner on the podium = we'll see what happens when they start competing in a year.
