yes it's kinda shocking.russia has it for men, ladies and pairs.i guess there were no american judge in olympics ladies free skate, but i am not sure.i don't want to see similar things like we saw in sochi.a lot judges on the panel from russia + soviet union...

The US was represented on the judging panels in all individual FS events in Sochi. I didn't search thoroughly to see which country was represented in each part of the event, though (SP, LP, etc.). Agree that it seems odd that there won't be any US judges for either of the singles events in Shanghai but IMO it would be smart to avoid the kind of innuendo that often starts re: RUS & former USSR countries. At this point, that's all it would be: innuendo.

I am usually surprised in the other direction. The big skating countries like Russia and the US seem to get lucky in the judges' draw more often than the rules of chance would suggest.

What's make no sense, russian girls are strong enough to grab some medals in Shanghai.

No Russian judge in Worlds ice dance, but no problem, there's AZE, EST and ISR.

Australia has a dance judge at world. Nice to get some 'neutrality' into the judging mix every year.

This is getting really boring and offensive.
There is no soviet union anymore and those countries have the right to exist even in FS, whether you like it or not.

It's becoming a bit annoying, Russia, figure skating's big bad wolf. The Soviet Union is gone for more than 20 years now. And it's insulting for the countries as well, you can't just call Estonia a russian satelite like this.
And I bet that at least in ice dance, Russia would have much more world medals if it was going like this

And yet none of these people will blink an eyelid when Gracie and Mirai are overscored, and Liza is underscored, this weekend. Bet none of them blinked when Chan was winning Skate Canada with four falls, either.

Neither does Japan, but they both have full roster for 4CC; weird coincidence? Is it like limit 6 in seniors or something? Russia has 3 and 3. China and Canada have the same pattern too (2 and 4; no ladies or ice dance). How does this draw work?
The smaller countries are lucky to get 5 (Go AUS)

Let's just be real. 99% of skaters (whether they are Russian, American, Dutch, Brazilian, or otherwise) will never get the scores they actually deserve (due to overscoring or underscoring). Figure skating is all politicking.

But according to some of the people upthread, ONLY the BIG BAD EVILLE RUSSIANS do it.

No, it's not. For the most part those win who deserve to win. There is no big issue in overscoring/underscoring when the place is right. There are indeed famous situations when the podium placement was controversial but we all know them. And the Russians were both "bad wolves" and victims in those situations. As for the last JGP I personally did not see much politics and decisions were all in all fair. There was a moment with the US dance team but in the end politics has resulted in nothing there. Adding Baltic countries who are NATO members and the biggest proponents of anti-Russia sanctions to the "Soviet block" is plain stupid.

This is not a matter of believe. We're not talking about Jesus here.
Sorry to inform you but Estonia or Lithuania, for example, are two independent countries.
Member of the European Union, the Council of Europe, and full members of the Schengen Agreement and NATO.
The Union of Soviet Socialist Republics was dissolved in 1991. These are hard facts, not my words.
Whether that's okay with you or not, I really don't think it's relevant. ;)
