Sportbox.ru will continue live streaming and placing GP events in the archive . My own experience with their live streaming was so-so. Although I paid for HD, it proved to be senseless. Even with the standard quality the streaming froze every now and then. Then Eurosport 2 for ladies' FP was a fantastic alternative. But streaming from the sportbox archive was smooth even with HD - they keep it at least a couple of days after events.
Many alternative channels referred to the same sportbox stream but with the wrong aspect ratio - the skaters were very stocky. Anyway,

NBC's broadcast begins at 1:00 pm ET this Sunday -- a deviation from the 4:00 pm start time for most of the GPs, AFAIK.

And NBC's broadcast will last only ninety minutes this week. (Taped coverage, of course.)

Sun., Nov. 2
1 - 2:30 p.m. ISU Grand Prix: Canada Kelowna, BC Terry Gannon, Johnny Weir, Tara Lapinski

- Tracy Wilson and Andrea Joyce are not included in the NBC listing for Skate Canada, although they were for Skate America. :think:
- And the NBC Sports listings personnel still don't know how to spell Tara's last name. :bang:

~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~
BTW, the color-coded event schedule (including practices), in case anyone needs it:
The victory ceremonies for all disciplines take place after the Ladies FS on Saturday.
The gala on Sunday is from 14:00 - 16:00 local time.
Note: The practices are shown more clearly (IMO) on an older version of the color-coded schedule, but I have not cross-checked whether the practice times on the older version remain up to date.
Apologies that this is a lot later than normal. I didn’t get a chance to do it yesterday, and the snooker ran VERY late today! (The matches Eurosport were showing in both sessions went to the deciding frames)
Anyway, looks like very good coverage of Skate Canada on all versions of Eurosport. There are only a few differences, and those are only affecting repeats and highlights programmes.
I have also included the first day of the Cup of China in my list, as there are still Skate Canada highlights programmes being shown that day. Oh boys, but you can see already from just that one day that we are going to be getting brilliant coverage of the Chinese round!!! :biggrin: :biggrin: :biggrin:
Who is the clown at Eurosport that schedules endless repeats of certain programs (eg. Men's/Pairs SP)... but no showing whatsoever of certain other programs (eg. Ladies SP, Dance SD)?
They did something similar for Skate America too -_-
Eurosport are fantastic aren't they (?).
Show endless repeats of the same thing then nothing of others. Sometimes I truly think it's to annoy us.
They did sneak in the top three of the Ladies Short at Skate America just before the Free Skate but that was because it was live. At Skate Canada the Ladies Free is delayed highlights so pretty much no chance.
Has anyone contacted Eurosport through Twitter or Facebook yet ?.
Thx, apple. :) Canadian viewers are lucky also that Craig Buntin's VeriSkate analytics software will be used for the first time. "The software analyzes broadcast footage and measures precisely how fast a skater is skating, his or her height and speed in and out of jumps, and step sequence patterns. It can also recognize different spin positions, as well as how many revolutions the skater did in each position," per IN.
@craigbuntin
Final preps testing the new technology before #SCI14. Can't wait to see minds blown this week!
VeriSkate has been discussed in the Stupid Questions thread (pp. 68-69). Repeating a couple of the links posted there:
(The IN article reported that CBC would be using VeriSkate in Kelowna -- I wonder if IN meant to say CTV and/or TSN.)
BTW, Buntin also is the official Athlete Ambassador for Skate Canada International.
Tessa and Scott will be commentating Skate Canada Int at Prospera Place this Weekend for TSN/CTV Welcome to Kelowna!!
"Virtue and Moir contribute special behind-the-scenes features airing throughout the competition, and sit down for an interview with TSN’s Brian Williams," according to the TSN press release.
So I think the tweet was wrong about Tessa and Scott serving as commentators.
In any case, I am excited for them to have on-air roles. :) :yay:
They both have such fun personalities, and I know that they will do a great job with the BTS features.
CTV and TSN are the official broadcasters of Skate Canada domestic events. The networks’ coverage is led by the industry’s top figure skating broadcast team of Williams, Rod Black, Tracy Wilson, and Sara Orlesky.
Williams hosts the 2014 Skate Canada International, bringing his extensive experience covering the Olympic Winter Games and Canadian and World Figure Skating Championships. Black, the voice of figure skating in Canada, is in the broadcast booth with analyst Wilson, a decorated Canadian figure skating champion. Reporting rinkside and backstage is Orlesky, who covered figure skating events at the Vancouver 2010 Olympic Winter Games.
Buntin unveils software he hopes will make figure skating more accessible
KELOWNA, B.C. – Craig Buntin .... pulls up a video and graphic of three-time world champion Patrick Chan.
The graphic shows that Chan skates into his quadruple jumps at 25 kilometres an hour – a decent clip when you consider the fastest NHL players are travelling 36 kilometres an hour at top speed.
In his footwork sequence, a series of steps and turns, Chan covers 190 metres – about 25 per cent more ground than his top rivals.
“Patrick’s numbers are off the charts,” says Buntin. “On his entire long program, he’s skating an average speed of 16 kilometres an hour, he’s flying. And he makes it look effortless.” ....
Buntin’s analytics software measures the speed, height, jump distance, rotation and ice coverage of skaters in competition.
Buntin taps again, and pulls up a graphic comparing Chan and Japan’s Nobunara Oda. It shows the respective patterns Chan and Oda made on the ice in their footwork sequences – Chan’s looks like a tangled string of Christmas lights compared to Oda’s more straightforward path. ....
Dan Thompson, Skate Canada’s CEO, believes VeriSkate could also be beneficial to judges.
“It’s really unique technology and it’s all looking at analyzing performance and analyzing technique and whether a certain movement has been completed or not,” Thompson said. “Potentially it could have a dramatic impact on the judging community.”
TSN plans to feature the software in its Skate Canada broadcast, Buntin says. ....
Wish those of us outside Canada could see this software in action.
Are none of the usual Russian sites carrying the competition?
No guarantees, but this tweet suggests some possible links to try for streaming:
