I always want to know what happens in Canada, so many talented skaters!

I have the Quebec data & videos complete, and data on North and Central Ontario.

Most of the remaining sectionals are this weekend.

The only sectionals not up yet is Saskatchewan, which takes place this weekend.

I'm very curious about whether Keegan Messing is injured. This is first season competing for Canada and he won his Alberta Sectional. However, the protocols show only a 1A in the SP, no Axel or step sequence in the FS. I can't believe he simply forgot those elements .

Anyone heard anything about an injury, or what happened at the competition?

The SP is easy to explain. He planned a 3A, but popped the jump to a single Axel. These days, you get no credit for a single Axel in the SP, so he got no credit.

From looking at his LP protocol, he planned 4t3t, but fell on the 4t. When he got up, he did the planned 3t.

However, when he got to the 3Lz2t at the end of the program, he got no credit, because he already had the full number of jumping passes, so he got no credit for the 3Lz2t.

I have no idea why he did not get credit for his Step Sequence. I will look and see whether I can find out what mistakes would cause that. He only had one fall, so that's not it.

ETA, since even failing to have a minimum variety of steps and turns should have given him a basic level (StSqB), my guess is that he did not fulfill the pattern requirement.

There is no longer a required pattern , but a step sequence must fully utilize the ice surface. It must be visible and identifiable and should be performed by using almost the full ice surface either in it length from short barrier to short barrier (e.g. straight line, serpentine or similar shape) or twice in its width from long barrier to long barrier (e.g. circle, oval or similar shape). Failure to achieve the above description will result in no value. In features 2 and 3 “pattern” means the pattern actually executed by the skater

I agree Doris that he probably popped the 3A in the SP. But it still seems very odd to me that he did not include even a 2A in the FS. Also Keegan usually has a good step sequence. He is still training with the same coach and I think the same choreographer so how could he mess up the pattern so much that he didn't get credit? I hope he is not injured and this was just a major brain fart. He still won so maybe it doesn't really matter.
