Apparently Anna is coming to worlds with an injury and started training on 12 March. So I wouldn't have high hopes..:(

Shin Amano is the technical specialist for the event. He has a reputation for being very critical, so this could make it harder for people with jump/spin rotation problems (Wagner, Miyahara, Hongo).

Oh no... :bang: Maybe Ashley should reconsider two lutzes in the LP. And Liza should give the 3A a long, hard look...

But it is exactly tech specialists like Shin Amano we need, that the TES are being called without so much ambiguity harsh though they are. We won't even have the suspicion that he may favour his own country or own bloc in contrast to all the conspiracy theorists who bloomed after Sochi. He was very strict when calling out Asada for her 3As. From what I remember, he has also been known to be a strict caller when it comes to edge issues, so those with unclear flip and lutz edges better watch out. For the ladies, this means literally everybody with the exception of Liza Tuks and Radionova.

Oh, I definitely think strict calling is good for the skaters and the sport. I was just pointing out that skaters who struggle in these areas might lose out because of Amano's strictness.

And yes, edge calls will also be an issue for most ladies!

Having a tech specialist that's too harsh isn't really better than one that's too lenient, imo.

I admit I'm not a fan of how much edge/UR issues cost in the current system, compared to falls/hand downs. And the harsher you are, the more chance that someone who at least lands on one foot would lose to a person with falls. That just... kinda stinks. Especially when PCS don't get lowered for errors.

NOOO!!! Shin Amano again...
He ALWAYS gives mao's 3A (and other skater's jumps too) under grade even though it looks completely under rotation in slowmo...
But somehow he often gives +GEO for stepping out or failed jumps.
I don't like criticism of judges. But I just don't trust this guy.
..JUST RIDICULOUS.......

lol am I the only one who likes Shin Amano? He's strict, okay but he at least he's strict to everyone. He rewards clean, rotated jumps and edges like no other.
No federation favouritsm for flutzes or lips under his judgements :) It gives skaters from smaller skating federations with good technique like zijun li, soyoun park, mae berenice a better shot at the top.
Go shin amano! :cheer:

The technical panel (Shin Amano, etc) doesn't decide on the GOE, that's to the discretion of the judges.

I'll hold my judgement on any judging until it actually happens but the first thing ill be checking will be Satoko's UR's with my jumpamatron. I mean giving her jumps full credit if they look like the same quality as they did this season is equal to telling a pro golfer all of his 6ft putts are good at the Masters.

If I could pick any skater though who maybe deserves a free pass this year it would be Zijun Li. I swear the judges throw darts at a picture of her before the events. :scowl:

Well there's two sides to this story. I would prefer a tech sprecialist that is very very harsh and take him over a too lenient one any competition. Simply because being immensely strict when applied across the board doesn't skew results. Theoretically, with a too lenient caller a skater with a lot of issues can score equally or even higher than a skater with no technical issues. And I'm talking TES only. IMO this is a scenario that has to be avoided. A tech specialist that is neither too strict of too lenient always runs the risk of not applying the same standards across the board. Not necessarily because they purposely favour someone. But because it's already hard to draw a line and even harder to justify how much deviation from the standard is still acceptable. I don't necessarily think in dubio pro reo should be applied to skaters when it comes to edges and underrotation. IMO it should be on the skater to show the tech panel a clear edge, clean rotation that does not leave room for doubt. Being lenient IMO doesn't serve either the skater or the tech panel well.

Wow, that is indeed fair and square 2 rotations... Those ladies, who lose to Satoko must feel bad.
