Spanish and eurospprt commentators are equally as good, I'm speak both languages so I'd know. As for italian, there is a video on YouTube if someone wants me to link it, of yunas free skate at Sochi. They gave a very fair and honest reaction, and mom biased too about how Yuna should have won. What really got me though was when they said,
" Sotnikova shouldnt be winning the gold medal, but she would make a beautiful bronze, even silver medalist. "
What a fair and just reaction ^^

You know this is a phenomenon. With other male commentators, I can tell them apart. With Chris/Nicky/Simon, it's harder. Maybe because they work so well together as a unit, they complement each other. They work as one.

CaroLiza, pray tell. I couldn't find that exact moment on Youtube.

OK.

This conversation occurs just after Pang / Tong finish their Free Skate routine, while they are taking their bows.

Simon: "So different... But so good! And it's great that they've come back; come back for this one competition in their home country. Interestingly, they were saying in the press conference yesterday that it's HER decision to come back and, er, Tong Jian said 'I just followed her'. (They're a couple on and off the ice). And he follows her. It rings a bell with me..."

Nicky: "Me too Simon. I think It's probably the best way to go about things"

Simon: [Laughing]

Nicky: "THE LADY IS ALWAYS RIGHT. And in this case we can see it. Such beauty, such poignancy within the skating too. And to me the romanticism adds to my appreciation of it."

I really wish there was a video of it online, because if you can hear the way they are saying it, it is even more amusing!

You know... whether it's called the Shoot-the-Duck or the Teapot, those terms have little resemblance to the actual move  which is one of my favorite FS moves, especially when skaters do it entering a death spiral or during a sit spin.

sabin & Caro: Thank you... I wonder if Nicky was trying to placate his wife or something

This thread has made me laugh and feel this community has gotten together from all walks of life to celebrate these guys who love this sport; it can be a lonely experience for fans who can't express their love of FS to people around them and they made it all better.

I'm not sure if it's been mentioned here or not, but tonight I was rewatching the BESP video of Shen/Zhao's Turandot Worlds LP back in the days of ordinals and one judge gave them 2nd place. One of the BESP guys (not sure which) suggested that the judge be taken out and spanked

It was Simon Reed, who said both those things... (I rewatched it just now, to double check)

"We're not talking here about the best skater of the year. We're not even talking about the best skater of his generation. He may be one of the greatest skaters, if not THE greatest skater, of all time. As long as he doesn't get injured!"

Apologies for my mistake, I was pretty sure it were Chris & Nicky who did the whole GPF. I find it easier to identify Nicky than other two, his voice is similar but he tends to speak a bit slower I think, also I might be more tuned to his voice after watching Dancing On Ice for a few years.

At Worlds I laughed when Simon said during the warm-up about Hanyu: 'squeals of delight [from the audience] whenever he does anything' :)

Just watched the video that lyndichee very kindly linked to.

It was Simon Reed who came out with that comment.

And on the subject of Shen and Zhao, can I just say that I was very surprised that they did not make an appearance on the ice during the Opening Ceremony or the Gala at Worlds this year.

I don't know if Xue was attending, but Hongbo was definitely there, in a coaching capacity. It would have been such a nice touch to have them out on the ice for one last time in front of their home fans.

Oh, it's one of those mornings, then! :rolleye:

For some reason, when I was writing that comment, I had it in my head that that Pang / Tong were the only Pairs couple in the Opening Ceremony!

Which is ironic, as I absolutely loved that routine. In fact, I was itching to post about how great it was, but had to hold myself back as it was the first day of my sabbatical!

(On the subject of whether it was lip-syncing or not, I thought they were really singing).

If this is the way my brain is working today, I think I might be better not posting anything more for a while!

Thanks Alba for posting those videos! I normally just follow Eurosport and never listen to Italian commentators because the only videos I had access to were the RAI ones and did not particularly enjoy their style, but the Eurosport Italy are very good indeed!
Grazie!

I agree on that. :thumbsup::yes:

One is Angelo Dolfini. He is a former skater for italy, competed in Salt Lake City 2002. He is also ISU Technical Specialist. The other one is Massimiliano Ambesi, he used to do speed skating. He is a journalist for winter sports, and extremely prepared about FS, especially single and Pairs disciplines.

I have few videos with them on youtube. I wanted to register the Europeans and Worlds with them, but Sky Italia (where Eurosport is) has put an encryption or something to their package, so I can't record from an external device as I used to. :disapp:

Some of the videos I could record were difficult, but I did manage somehow.
