You wonder if Kazuko's injuries - hip and ankle, etc - are the results of practicing quads. He's not a very big guy and maybe the pressure of those landings is taking it's toll. I hope he recovers quickly.

The quad doesn't seem to have come very naturally for him, unfortunately, so I do think his injuries could be the result of over-training. Yuzu, Dice, and Shoma are also small guys but they seem to be more natural jumpers so perhaps that has helped keep the injuries less frequent.

MsFlixy just reported in the Kavaguti/Smirnov fan thread
http://www.goldenskate.com/forum/sh...nder-Smirnov&p=1343362&viewfull=1#post1343362

that Yuko has been injured and according to this article:

https://translate.google.com/transl...rovalas-na-trenirovke.html&edit-text=&act=url

"- As a result of a bad fall athlete injured his leg, doctors diagnosed tendon rupture. It is clear that the participation in the European and world championships speech does not go. "

Whilst on the subject, Pika also recently reported in the Chafik Besseghier fan thread that the injury to his ankle has not yet sufficiently healed, so he too is out of Euros (but expects to recover in time for Worlds'.)

Oh no! That sounds awful. I hope she makes a full recovery.

(T/M will replace them, I presume?)

I am heartbroken for them! I'll really miss them at Euros and Worlds. I know Yuko is one tough cookie, but that sounds very painful.

P/Z are out of their National Winter Games and 4CC because of his lower back injury, they could possibly still make it to Worlds though.

Thanks - Re 2022 - yeah, he's tough, no question!

And I think it's wise that:

"Initially the plan was to compete in the Games since they only happen every four years, but then he realized there wouldn’t be enough time to heal. He thinks that if he did participate it would seriously affect how he performs in future competitions."

he rests instead of risking aggravating the injury further; hopefully this will allow him to be back for Worlds'.

For something a bit more cheerful for this thread - here is an article posted by cheerknithanson in the Kevin Reynolds fan thread:

https://bevsmithwrites.wordpress.com/2016/01/22/kevin-reynolds-sighting/

It goes into both his injury, surgery and road to recovery, but also his ills - that is, his boot problems. Which seem to have been helped by his time off the ice:

"During his time off the ice, his wounds healed. And surprisingly, his feet grew without the pressure of being in boots all the time. They spread out more at the toes.

Remember all of his boot woes from the past two seasons? Going through a dozen pairs of boots, unable to find any that fight him tightly around his narrow heels? His feet would slide in the boot, not allowing him to follow his star of being Canada’s Quad King.

Well, Reynolds has been able to move up half a size in skating boots. And he found three or four pairs of boots in stock of gthe model he used during his most successful season. He bought all of them up, boot problems apparently solved for the next few years. Incredibly.

“Sometimes you have to leave things to fate,” he said, smiling."

I'm crushed :(

The Pairs really upped their game this year but there has been too many injuries from the Top team to have a real battle:

First S/H out of the GPF
Then S/K out of Russian Nationals
Then Yuko being seriously injuried and K/S missing both Euros and Worlds
Now S/K out of Euro

I really hope it's going to stop there!
