I know I wasn't asked, but here we are! This little interview with Mishin is directly after the European Championships long program. It can still be found at this site.

    http://sport-tv.ru/comments.html?id=22738

    Here is the translation.

    - Where's the cause of the loss?
    - It's not possible to win always.

    - But he was injured, even that wasn't the reason?
    - Of course, he was injured. Because of the injuries he couldn't practise systematically. And that all causes problems.

    - What is the final diagnose of Evgeni's problem?
    - The final diagnose set the American doctor - it's a damaged meniscus.

    - Plushenko lost today for the second time in the season (remember, he lost the final of Grand Prix Series, the first was skater Emanuel Sandhu) - it's an accident or the "first ring" (like first signal or warning)?
    - Evgeni could won over Joubert if he hadn't wanted to break a record. But he said he wants to do his maximum. And he tried quad axel, though I told him not to do that. And the one technical error made the others then.

    - Don't Evgeni's lately unsuccess bring competitors to him?
    - Of course, it can't happen that you lose and no-one knows that.

    - If you let me, I aprecciate Alexei Yagudin, who consults with Joubert these times, it is said, that the French skater closely fleeced Plushenko. Then began the rumors of psychologist...
    - It's not neccesary to find any mystique in that. In sports losses are usual. No-one is unbeatable. Regarding Evgeni, I think he still plans something.

    - As you had to say goodbye to any of your loved pupils, for example Alexei Urmanov, the time of Plushenko's leaving will come too - how will you survive that?
    - For everytime, when somebody is leaving me, he goes out with a part of myself inside. I understand and accept this natural process.

    - Last question, what can you say about bronze medallist Ilia Klimkin?
    - Only the best. Klimkin is connecting wonderful thoughts of his dead coach Igor Rusakov and systematism of his current coach Viktor Kudriatsev. And that, as you can see, brought him succes.

Again.. Don't get me wrong.. I have a shallow fun loving lustful side and really have no problem with those who do.. I just don't allow myself to find fault with their competitor(s) or not find room for improvement with the one I lust after. :o

That is the way I am too LOL.

My sister is 33, and she and I had a discussion about dance at the Olympics. I said I rooted for A&P because they were the best IMO. She said she was rooting for the Americans, she doesn't even know who represented us LOL but anyway, I said "I root based on talent," and she said "I root for the Americans, I'm not rooting for some communist!" I said, "Last time I checked France was a REPUBLIC." She also doesn't know an Axel from a Biellmann, and thinks Sarah Hughes is a goddess of the ice. Not to mention she can't spell if her life depended on it!

OK that was WAYYYYYYYYY off topic, sorry!!

quad axel? you have to be joking. I watched that video again and there is no way he was going for a quad axel. Come on mishin, don't look for excuses, admit plushy just had a bad day.

Well, since Mishin said it, it MUST be true! Methinks he doesn't want to admit that Plush had a shockingly bad performance, a meltdown not seen in some years from him. Stuff happens. But to say he was trying quad axel? It sure didn't look like it on the tape *I* was watching.

I pray that something like this doesn't happen! I mean look at what happened at the 04' Worlds: the German Stefan Lindemann robbed Stephane Lambiel of his bronze. Stephane Lindemann is a good skater, but nothing extraordinary. Now Lambiel is an amazing talent with awesome choreography that takes my breath away each time I watch him skate. I would like Irina Slutskaya to get back on the podium though. But the men's competition needs Joubert to win. So if he skates the best, give him (joubert) the gold, not Plushenko. But if Plushenko skates better than Joubert does FINE he wins! But please give the gold to who skates the best, not to who is favorite? Please we already saw this cruelty at Europeans when Plushenko got a medal when Frederic Dambier SHOULD HAVE GOT IT! Plushenko can stand to be OFF the podium. So unfair is judging! It is depressing at times! :(
Well, this iis about the strangest post I ever read. Plushenko is for 7 years at the top of world figure skating. Do you imply he got to the top having no right to?
I think every viewer has some disagreement with judging. I for example think Joubert is a parvenue with mediocre programmes and in World silver should have gone to Lambiel. So what: should I start a campaign as to re-judging the Worlds and giving the medal to Lambiel instead of Joubert? By the way the simple fact that Plushenko was better than Joubert even with the fall ( mind you -he was better and not placed better ) shows that Joubert has no chance for gold. Plushenko has an immense record of successfull performances He is in the Guinness Book of records for many things like the biggest number of 6.0-s ever given to a male.skater. He made a history of figure skating with many elements like the 4+3+3 combination which other skaters(Joubert included)don't even dare to perform.
In my view even to imply that Plushenko's gold is a result of some dishonesty on the part of judges is very rude , biased and totally wrong.

    Thumbs up

When I read comments like novaspacedout's I laugh hysterically till I get interested in something else. Libra you hit the nail on the head. I think these people simply want a new face for gold, which just isn't happening. When there is nothing to nitpick, they find something somehow LOL. Granted, he has weaknesses, but he does a great job of hiding them (if there's more than one).

Plushenko is having music especially composed just for his long program this year, perhaps by Marton again. No word on what he will portray, as a matter of fact his programs are the best kept secret in skating LOL. After portraying a city in turmoil and a legendary dancer, I wonder what he'll come up with next.

They also said that it's a "guitar version", and that he's working with the choreographer Petkhukov (sp?), who works/worked with Denkova & Staviyski.

In the last of the GPs in Bofrost, Evgeni skated to a lyrical piece as his SP and in my opinion it was his finest skate ever. He had excellent flowing choreography; he did not mug the audience; he simply did his jumps as part of the music rather than selling them. He was a totally different Evgeni and I was happily surprised. I would imagine he will repeat this with Beethoven. I would prefer piano to violin but we'll see.

    Dear Joesitz,
Zhenia's SP music is a guitar version of Moonlight Sonata, very lyrical, sad, touching, and beautiful. I believe all necessary ingredients for a new little masterpiece will be put in place.

Have you heard it then? I'm not very musical, so I can't for the life of me imagine a guitar version of this piano classic. What's it like?

BG: I have a version of Moonlight Sonata in guitar by Dominic Miller and it's really beautiful and new agey. I don't think that's the version Plushy will skate to but there are lots of classical pieces that translate well into guitar.
