Kaitlyn Farrington (Olympic Gold Medalist)
Never give up!

https://youtu.be/f03dByCkOgY

Just last October, defending Olympic snowboard halfpipe gold medalist Kaitlyn Farrington heard the words that are scarier than any icy halfpipe or contest run: "You can never snowboard again."

This meant a serious change in her career as a professional snowboarder. She could still ride, but now has to keep her feet on the ground. She will have retired from competitive snowboarding at the age of 25, with her Olympic gold medal being the last of her career.

I encourage anyone to share stories that inspire. No matter how big or small because even the little stuff can cause tremendous change.

I want to thank you personally, for posting about our "Cowgirl" as we call her. Without Austria, she might had never found out... We lost so many already, like Sarah - I am just glad she found something new and one time a snowboarder, always one - the clique sticks together also in hard times.

Thank you very much!

It's very emotional as she tells about the moment she knew her world changed. So glad she is still carving a path down the mountain. My friends wife is a trainer for the Women's US Olympic Snowboard team and has said Kaitlyn is an amazing person filled with a big spirit. I hope to hear more from her and see some video footage of her this season.

As an athlete, especially in what can be called "fun sports", you enjoy the freedom, you decide which elements you perform, especially at the Half Pipe, the girls and boys want to be the ones in charge and style up, not just on the board but also without.

It is a lifestyle and no matter if someone can speak proper English, does the hardest tricks or whatever, it is the clique and everyone has a good time. If you take these things away from them, then the essence of their "life" seems to be gone. That's also why for many of the riders, rules like in a "pro team" are not seen as fun, they just want to ride and do not care too much about all that other stuff that comes with winning, fame ... When you go to events and they fall, no matter how hard the fall was, or if they picked up an injury, they will try to ride again. At Sochi especially in Slopestyle, many of the girls fell hard, but the first reaction, even after being knocked out for a bit, was to get back on the board. Doctors and coaches had a hard time to not let them ride again at times.

To be told, that you can no longer perform is hell, be it short or long term / forever and in Kaitlyns case, it took a long time for her to actually tell anyone about it and she still doesn´t feel to comfortable about it. She has got the respect of everyone and her backcountry riding will give her the freedom back.

As you can see in the video, she does have tears in her eyes, she has a wonderful personality, not holding back.

There is a little company named Tentree you can buy things from and with every purchase you make they will plant ten trees. It's earthy clothing that won't win you a fashion award at any formal affairs but something tells me my heart will be warmed a little bit on my next hike in the cold weather. My goal is to have 40 trees planted for Christmas this year.

I remember a conversation with Doris and Olympia in my first global language of inspiration thread about a patch of flowers that were planted by a president's wife and when you flew over it you could see them. In honor of that conversation and in tribute to the memory of Olympia I'm going to post this picture.

Seeing something so beautiful and inspiring will forever remind me of Olympia.

Link to the original conversation. Thank you Doris for sharing such a great story. You never know how a simple exchange of words may forever stay with a person.

Oh Canada!!! What an example to set. Even though the American team probably had a bunch of Canadians playing for them

You'll be my arms, I'll be your eyes.

There are so many people doing great things in this world. For some reason they just don't make it to the news. Thank god for a company like GoPro who has the ability to share the most important thing we have to offer. Inspiration.

"Though we are limited physically, Our spirit is limitless"

Long after they are gone people will remember the blind man and the man with no arms who left them a forest.

This story literally left me in tears.
