OTTAWA (CP) - Dr. Charles Snelling and Louis Stong are to be inducted into the Skate Canada Hall of Fame.

Snelling, coached by Marcus Nikkanen at Toronto's Granite Club, was a six-time Canadian champion, seven-time world team member and two-time Olympian. He won the bronze medal at the 1957 world figure skating championships in Colorado Springs, Colo. He currently lives and works in Vancouver.

Stong will be inducted in the builder category as a coach. A former world competitor, the Torontonian is best known as the coach who guided Barbara Underhill and Paul Martini to five national titles from 1979-1983 and a world gold medal in 1984. He also coached Kurt Browning in 1993 leading up to the 1994 Olympics. He also coached Canadian women's champions Kay Thompson, Karen Preston and Josee Chouinard. Skate Canada hired him in 1999 as director of skating development.

The induction ceremony will take place at the 2005 BMO Financial Group Canadian championships in London, Ont., Jan. 23, 2005.
