The waterpark and amusement park with the Mindbender (the roller coaster with the loop) are still there. Along with the big ship, mini golf, casino, submarines, etc. I think the only thing that's gone are the dolphin shows.

Thank you for answering my question, Peg. We have the Mall of America here in the states but, I have never been there. I was really blown away by the fact that there were so many "Summer Like" activities to do in the dead of winter. Especially the water park. It was great.

By law, US citizens have to report their worldwide income to the IRS.

This is a big issue in Canada, where there are many "accidental" Americans, and people who thought they gave up their US citizenship many years ago. They are now being threatened with dire consequences and heavy fines for not reporting to the IRS. Fortunately not (yet) by the US government , but by many newspaper columnists and people who comment on websites.

In most cases, however, there is no actual US tax on "income earned abroad", as there is an annual exemption of a certain amount of such income. If income is over that amount, you can get a credit on US taxes for income tax paid to a foreign country.

This a good explanation of the situation. When I toured for Honeywell, we were all surprised that our checks were still being taxed at the US rate even when we left Country. Especially when were in Mexico were the tax rate was much lower than here. This is why it would depend on who is "Paying." I seem to remember Sweden having a very high tax rate. Much higher than the US. Is that still the case? Sorry, after a quick check, it was actually Norway that I was thinking about. I don't know what the tax rate is there but, everything seemed to cost more in that country.

According to wikipedia. But tax rates in the US varies - there are some states with a state income tax and some without.

This is correct! That's why Six Flags ( Especially Fiesta Texas ) and Sea World in Texas have the best shows outside of Disney. The tax rate for Personal income is either Zero or very low in Texas . I don't remember which. The Texas Parks get very high quality talent. The Fiesta Texas Park in San Antonio is one of the prettiest parks in the chain. It's actually built into an old Quarry and has a very rustic and cool feel to it. San Antonio also has the beautiful and romantic river walk which is lined with great restaurants, bars, and gorgeous people!

Well, the winters can get pretty cold in Edmonton, so people need indoor activities to do ;)

And since you've been there, you know that the waterpark is not your ordinary run of the mill waterpark, but actually has the world's largest indoor wave pool and some of the waterslides are over 80 feet high. You can have an entire family vacation in that mall.

My read is that all states have income tax but the rates vary from state to state. However, some states have no sales tax ie Oregon. Maybe skating in Canada would be cheaper for Keegan with the Canadian dollar so dismal. Maybe Keegan goes to the mall to get a tan since he can't play with the dolphins or the pink flamingos any more :( As for Tonya - may not be he best joke - remember we still do not know who caused Osmond to break her leg yet. No one has come forward. Someone hit her - probably accidentally but took off. A skater it would appear. Osmond has talked about this that she does not want revenge but she wants to know what happened or why (I know we are all thinking of the you tube video of ice princess Nancy screaming: Why Why Why). They have a wonderful store called Simons at the mall in Edmonton. They carry some very unique stuff and expensive like a couple of thousand dollars for a suit or a thousand for a shirt or pants. I go a pair of thousand dollar pants for 60 dollars (Canadian) and a black designer suit/tux that I swear would be out of a James Bond movie for $200 that was a couple of thousand regular. (We think it must be able to go underwater because it is the most unusual fabric and weighs a tonne - probably 20 lbs or more. A tuxedo wet suit??)

I want to go now :) And stay at the Fantasyland Hotel - some of those theme rooms are just crazy:) It must be hard for Osmond to skate there and not go shopping at say Kate Spade, Michael Kors, Simons or Coach.

No there are some states (only a few) that do not have a state income tax, but there is a federal income tax.

I think that if you're there practically every day, the novelty wears off. She probably doesn't even think of it as a mall any more. But it does give new meaning to the term "mall rat" ;)

It's zero. We have high property taxes but no state income tax.

Thank you for helping me with that information. I really loved Texas and we spent almost 2 two months there. Other than being Fajita'd out ;) I absolutely loved it. I still think we need a GP event in San Antonio as it's a beautiful town with several things to do.

I guess I never understood why changing countries would be a positive. If you can't place significantly in your own country then your chances at Worlds and/or the Olympics are slim and none. If it's just the opportunity to skate in those competitions that's one thing - but the money and the time put in without a hope or a prayer seems like it's not a good tradeoff. I can only guess that the motivation to participate is what drives a skater to change countries. Whatever....

Maybe for the love of skating and chance to skate internationally. Not everyone skates for the sake of olympic gold medal, you know.

In Agnes's case, she came into 2014 Nationals with a very strong shot at the Olympic team; there were finally 3 spots and she had won the bronze medal the previous two years.

Correct. I recall reading a piece written about her reaction specifically while watching Worlds in London ONT when the 3 spots were secured, and her enthusiasm.

I would be very surprised if any elite skater doesn't think about winning an Olympic medal. Then I guess you have to define what "elite skater" means. For me it's anybody who strives to win their National championship and manages to place in the top 5 or 6 in that competition. It's anybody who gets an assignment to a Grand Prix competition, or 4 CCs. I don't think these skaters train for hours on the ice, off-ice training such as ballet or weights or jogging or whatever, leave their homes to train elsewhere, put their families in debt (often), are home schooled because traditional school doesn't work into their training regimen, etc. just for the love of skating!!! :scratch2:

We don't know for sure that Agnes is cruising, do we? But IMHO there is no *bad* reason to cruise:laugh:

Ships in Royal Caribbean's "Voyager" and higher class ships have ice rinks (nine in all). In this class and on this line, I've sailed on Explorer of the Seas and Voyager of the Seas. Teeny Tiny rinks, but amazingly good shows.

I think only Royal Caribbean has ice rinks. They also have times when passengers can skate on the rinks, which is a lot of fun.

Just saw on her Instagram that as of 17/18 weeks ago - putting this at about early to mid November 2015 - she posted a picture of St. Thomas and then one of St. Martin the next day. There's another place in the Caribbean somewhere but it was a while back. I'm a cruise enthusiast and Royal Caribbean does an Eastern Caribbean one-week itinerary where I hit St. Thomas and then St. Martin back-to-back. It's on their giant Oasis of the Seas liner, which has a skating rink in the lower levels. So my educated guess, based on these clues, is that she was definitely doing a RCL cruise as a performer last fall. They pay decently and they generally enjoy them. You won't find the likes of the world medalists there, but you'll see mid- to almost upper-level performers on them. From Canadian performers I know Vaughn Chipeur took a contract with RCL right after 2010 Olympics, and Chris Mabee does them as well.
