The recent chatter about several US men in the Jason fan fest thread made me think that it might be time to revive this thread!

We haven't had much news yet, but here are a couple of things, in no particular order:

Jordan Moeller: is back on the ice after breaking his leg last December, but a couple of recent posts by 7K have me wondering whether he's switching to ice dance, or if this is just part of his recovery process:

https://instagram.com/p/BGsljZ_B7uM/

https://instagram.com/p/BG2U015B7l-/

Either way, so glad to see him back and looking happy!

As to other recoveries: the last we heard of Nathan he was back on the ice but not yet jumping. Anyone have any progress reports on Nathan or Josh?

So we now know that Adam will have a new training mate, but do we have any word on his new programs? If so, I've missed it, but he seems to be enjoying his summer. Here is one of the nicest pictures I've ever seen of him:

https://instagram.com/p/BG2twkCPY15/

Speaking of cute pictures, this is probably one of the cutest I've ever seen of Max (or any little boy), posted by Karne in his fan fest thread:

https://scontent-syd1-1.xx.fbcdn.ne...=4eaaa0d4ce5be82e07158200a7248342&oe=57E4095F

Any word about his new programs yet? I'm so curious where they're going to go after last year! There have been rumors he's working on 4Lo - will he unveil it at Aerial Challenge?

Per the program thread, I'm looking forward to Alexander Johnson's SP, which uses Bamboleo (Gypsy Kings) and one other piece. His FS is to La Strada. If that's the same thing Nam used for his 2015 FS it will be interesting to see what Alex does with it. Also: he moved back to Minnesota for school, and will be working with Paige Lipe (Rohene's teacher!) as well as Tom Dickson.

Jason had been pretty quiet on social media since returning from Israel, but in his interview with Mrs P (!!!) he said he will be doing Broadmoor Open, not yet sure about the jumps contest. Will be interesting to see if he attempts a quad (or 2) at Broadmoor. His programs next season are the ones he competed at TCC. Here are two random clips, one pre and one post Israel:

https://instagram.com/p/BGvVycmTXMl/

Last but not least, Tim Dolensky's new SP was done by Ryan Jahnke. I thought I saw a clip somewhere but couldn't find it. In any case, it looks like he's poised to have a great season!

Who's that?

Thanks a lot Tavi. My thougts are that I can't guess who will actually be fit for competition next season. I'm sure Max and Adam will be the front runners. Not sure how Jason will fare. The ones still dealing with injuries/coming back from injuries, no idea??? And what about Dornbush, Miner and Hochstein: are they still going for it or focusing on other things in life.

Probably just part of his recovery. There's a long road between a preliminary dance and a level that a senior singles skater would be interested in competing at.

Thanks for the links.

Too busy at work to respond fully right now but per the all-knowing Sylvia on FSU, Adam's new training mate is Michael Brezina:

@gkelly, thanks for your thoughts on Jordan!

Oh, Rafael is popular now  Hope he will help Brezina with better jumping style :)

Max is recovering from hernia surgery, per Ryan Bradley's commentary during the Aerial Challenge.

Big hugs to Max ... who is competing, but who is not jumping quite like himself.

Pretty impressive to do what he's done tonight post-hernia surgery. Yikes. Hope he's feeling okay.

Agreed.

BTW, Max's surgery must have taken place within the last two months, in case anyone is wondering.

On the same weekend as TCC, Max performed in the Showtime on Ice club show in Colorado.

(Max and Polina had been guest skaters for the 2015 show. After Boston Worlds, Max was a late addition to the 2016 show -- which already had Mirai and Maddie/Max as guest skaters too.)

ETA, excerpt from one of Tom Z's post-comp Instagrams:
So proud of @maxtaaron for competing like a warrior in the @aerialchallenge so soon after his surgery. ...

Congratulations to Aleksei Krasnozhon  for winning the Aerial Challenge tonight.
Max placed second. Jimmy Ma third.

Happy to say that bromance among the U.S. men was alive and well at the Aerial Challenge.
Lots of goodwill among the top three -- not only on the podium, but also during the comp itself.

Plus after Friday afternoon's initial round, Jimmy was in first place; Aleksei second; Tomoki third.
Cute vid of those three: https://twitter.com/akrasnozhon/status/746497012170776578

ETA, Aleksei's very gracious (think Oscar speech ;)) Instagram after his win included a bromantic photo of the men's medalists plus lot of shout-outs, including:
... It was such a pleasure sharing the ice with all of the skaters especially with @maxtaaron and @jimmy_mf_ma, thank you so much guys ! ...

Poor Max :sad4: Surgery right in his core, which he would use so much when skating...

Aleksei is fifty different kinds of adorable.

Hugs to Max as he is still making a full recovery. :ghug:

I'm surprised we don't hear of hernia injuries more with figure skaters, especially among the men.

Why exactly was Max competing in a meaningless jump competition after having hernia surgery? That just seems insane.

Why exactly was Max competing in a meaningless jump competition after having hernia surgery? That just seems insane.

For one thing, the prize money for first place was $7500. Max earned $5000 for second place. Nothing to sneeze at.

Max has strong competitive instincts, and he prob. wanted to defend his title as well (regardless of the prize money).

Plus I think Max prob. was happy to be supportive of the event -- as a chance for all skaters to work on new jumps.
At the same time that Max is committed to working on his PCS, he likes seeing the growth of the sport on the technical side.

Do I see Shotaro Omori :) in the group photo from ISP camp? Wearing eyeglasses and standing next to Sean Rabbitt? I hope my eyes do not deceive me.

Other men in the photo include:
- Tomoki; Vincent; Camden Pulkinen; Jordan Moeller; Alex Johnson
- I believe it's Aleksei who has his head bent back (in any case, he definitely is at the camp)
- I think I recognize Eric Sjoberg; Anthony Boucher; TJ Nyman; Luke Kirchgessner ...and maybe Colton Johnson?? [ETA: or maybe Maxim Naumov??]
Apologies for any mistaken identities, and for my compete cluelessness about a couple of faces.

ETA (on Jun 29):
'Tis indeed Maxim Naumov, according to Alice Yang's helpful tagging. Never mind re Colton Johnson.

ETA (on Jun 28):

Ooooops, sorry, did I miss Torgashev in the photo? Is he the one behind Sho Omori?
Anyway, @andrewtorg29 is at the ISP camp, per his Instagram below. #dabbing

ETA (on Jun 29), correcting myself:
Now I think Torgashev is behind Ashley Cain, and right next to Aleksei??
And per Alice's tagging, I now think Sean Austin is behind Sho Omori.

LOL, the guy in the yellow shirt who is dabbing is prob. the ubiquitous :) Aleksei, per this other ISP camp Instagram from Alexia Paganini:

Off topic for this thread, but a cute ISP camp photo showing some of the young ladies:

... Aleksei is fifty different kinds of adorable.

:agree: Another dose of bromance   from Colorado Springs:

^
... and probably he was well recovered :)

Do not want to diminish Aleksei's win one iota. He placed a strong second last year, and it is totally possible that he still would have won this year even if Max had not needed recent surgery.
But ... I am of two minds about Max. I do not believe that he would have been reckless -- do not believe that he would have been training/competing against medical advice. I do wonder whether his surgery caused him to be undertrained for the Aerial Challenge. I think it is fair to say that his rate of errors -- putting a hand down; falling; popping; etc. -- was a departure from his usual standards.
In each round, the ladies competed first, and then the men. During one of the later rounds, Max was behind the boards watching the ladies. Within the camera's wide-angle shot, I happened to catch a glimpse of him hunched over with his head down. Could have meant absolutely nothing -- maybe he simply was taking a moment to get mentally focused for his next turn. Or .... nothing more than my wild speculation, but maybe(???) it was a sign of a little fatigue???
Anyway, I trust that Max will be sensible as he preps for the new season. I really don't think he would risk jeopardizing the momentum he built up last season.

I agree 100% when you say that Max may have attended to help support the event. There are a lot of people, like myself, who would have attended this event just to meet Max even if he didn't skate. I think we sometimes forget the impact that these skaters have on their fans. Just hearing them say hello can leave an impression that lasts for years.

After having a look at the group picture, I am wondering if that is Angela Wang in the very front row on the right? If so, she sure is tiny. I saw her out here in Ca. When she was a Junior and even in skates she looked short to me. However, I don't remember her looking so young. Maybe it was the makeup and costume that made her look older back then. She's was such a strong Junior and I'd really love to see her get on the podium soon.

Jason Brown did not compete at the Broadmoor Open. I'm guessing he just wasn't quite ready after his vacation. It isn't unusual for skaters to register for summer competitions and then discover their programs aren't at a competition level yet.
