Back to thevGolden age of skating which for USA at least was the nineties, maybe early 2000s.

It could be earlier. What particular skate is something you feel the younger GS posters who came of age with IJS and think Yuna and Mao were the first figure skaters and only big rivalry- should see and enjoy.

What trip down memory lane have you been taking in the off season? I watched Tara who had a very short but meteoric career. It was great seeing the First Lady um er kid to pull off triple loop triple loop. I then off course segued to some Michelle, Nicole Bobek (sigh) Surya Bonaly and Irina's first gawky season as a senior.

Who have you been watching- any skate we must see?

I say Chen Lu winning the 1995 worlds was wonderful. She is the first big Chinese star I recall and while Surya did 8 triples and Lulu did 5, it was to quote Bezic " quality over quantity."

I surely felt that way but found myself surprised at how much I never appreciated Surya in the past but do more so now. She sure was unique.

Any pro program by Denise Biellmann.. I'd recommend this one: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=3QhrykT8ags.

Bourne/Kraatz FD - '98 Worlds - https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=t3K5Qwj3UFI

Usova/Zhulin FD - '93 Worlds - https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=AxseLaxl61s

Kurt Browning - US Pro Championships - https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=29dB3XwL33c (I'd actually recommend anything from him in 1996!).

Woetzel/Steuer - 1997 Worlds - https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=25ZDkG6uQLI (a favourite of mine, although this pair was a bit rough around the edges for World Champs)

I might come back with more suggestions later! :)

This Scott Joplin Ragtime FD is one of my all time favorites. And so unusual at the time. Elegant as well as fun, but not a cheesy moment throughout.

I also love Shae-Lynne Bourne and Victor Kraatz. They were unique among ice dancers, as were Wilson/McCall.

Last week I watched a lot of the ice dance event from Nagano in 1998, mainly due to the off topic discussion about wuzzrobbing in one of the other threads about pairs wuzzrobbing in Lillehammer.

What did you think? I wish Anissina/Peizerat skated at Nagano as well as they did at Worlds a month later. They were on fire at Worlds.

I think overall I would've had Krylova/Ovsyannikov in first, G/P second and Anissina/Peizerat third...

This discussion needs its own thread! :sad21:
