I found a site with a "whatever happened to.." list of many gymnasts of the past--Gina Gogean, Mo Huilan, Tatiana Gutsu, Brandy Johnson, Natalia Yurchenko, Henerietta Onodi(gorgeous eyes!) Chelle Stack, Ekaterina Szabo, Wendy Bruce, Kim Kelly, Simona Amanar and many more are listed.

Awesome site! Thanks!

Interesting that there are a couple of major gymnasts left off the site, including Olympic All-Around gold medalists Ludmilla Turescheva, Lilia Podkopaeva and Andreea Raducan (who was stripped of her AA medal due to some cold medication but later re-presented it in a grand Romanian ceremony).

One well-known gymnast spent time in porn films (Molnar), one had her judging license temporarily suspended for favoring Russian gymnasts (Nellie Kim), but all-in-all (from those I read) decent lives.

Did you know Lilia Podkopaeva was assaulted and beaten in her Kiev apartment?

I hate going on those sites to see what those gymnasts are up to. I feel so sad to see these former champions just working in obscurity.

Why? Most are coaches in the sport they love, while many others have switched careers entirely. Many have families and probably quite fulfilling lives. They had their 15 minutes of fame--that's more than most people get.

I don't really mind reading what they are doing, either. It isn't sad or pathetic to pursue a "normal" life after stardom (or semi-stardom). I also imagine it isn't the enormous letdown that people would think. These athletes were taking part in a sport they loved. And, knowing it is a sport, one would think that every one of these athletes knew they would not be competing at age 40...thus, I assume they had other dreams.

Question: Have they selected the U.S. Olympic Team for the women yet? I read about the men's team in USA Today.

Thanks, Realtor. The site I read it on had mis-information. Maybe it was translated incorrectly?

Still, that must've been frightening for her! I really liked her when she was in gymnastics.

Fear not! Almost all of them are doing something successful--some are doctors, teachers or in corporations.

Also, I would think that the daily grind of training must get old after a while--in any sport. I would think that eventually they would actually like to experience a life outside the walls of the gym.

YEAH MOHINI!!!!!!!!

Hooray for the whole team, but I'm totally over the moon about Mo and Annia Hatch. I was hoping that Tasha would somehow end up on the team, but I'm glad she made Alternate.

Now, would someone please tell Terin Humphreys that you're supposed to wash yesterday's makeup OFF before putting more on?

I watched the initial competition a month ago on NBC. Somebody ought to discreetly pull Terin Humphrey aside, and tell her to try something a little different with her eye make-up. The girl absolutely looks like a raccoon.

Excuse me, saying she looks like a raccoon is realllyyy harsh. I personally like it. Terin is a beautiful girl, and it's alright that you don't like her makeup, and if you want to be rude it's better than Carly who can be stuck up at times (still I'm a fan...I'm not going to be harsh on that). Anyhow let's focus on the gymnastics please.

I am thrilled for Terin, Mo and Annia. They really deserve it. I was a little surprsied they didn't take Hollie or Chellsie but I'm sure that was a good descicion, if they are wanting to win team gold. I don't think we will win any event golds this time, however.

Marta did say that if Tasha was looking as good as she was at camp at trials and nationals, they would've taken her. I hope tasha hollie and chellsie stick around for another 4 years..

Terin may be a beautiful girl, but her eye makeup is not flattering in that picture. She looks like a member of the Addams family.

And Carly Patterson should ditch the luminescent white eyeshadow under her brows. It looks like a second pair of eyes.

I thoroughly agree that she is a beautiful girl. And I believe she would be a thousand times more beautiful without those two shiners.

I so agree. She looks absolutely horrid with that makeup. I watched the team on the Today Show on Monday, and she had bright silver eyeshadow on, and it was 7:00am (Texas time).

Thanks for the link.

When the first thing you notice when you look at a woman is her eyeshadow, she is either using too much, or it's the wrong color. Eye makeup should enhance your natural eyes, not be the focus of your face.
