I know the olympics are over but maybe we still need a place to share news and fluff pieces.

Madison Kocian visits Seacrest Studios

I'm not a fan of gymnastics so got to know who Madison Kocian is. She resembles a Russian-American Olympic gymnastics champion (don't recall her name) at London Olympics a bit. I feel she can be a good commentator for the sport as she has a nice voice and poise. :)

Nastia Liukin? she's the 2008 Beijing olympic medal sweeper. I guess they could look similar cause they are both blond, white girls :p

Does this thread include rhythmic gymnastics too? if yes, I heard conflicting reports of Yana Kusryavtseva retiring, which is a huge news to RG community but she is such a beauty that she could take up a celebrity career and still make millions

I'd love to see a show like this which isn't traditional gymnastics but pushes the boundaries into a new realm. It's very circus like but the roots are clearly in gymnastics.

Actually, only Tita Viner said that Yana is going to retire, neither Yana or her coach knew it before Viner said it at a press conference. I feel Viner is doing with Kudri the same that she did with Merkulova, Kondakova, Dimitrieva and more... just force them to retire. In Yana's case, she would have to face 2 more surjeries (sorty if misspelled) in order to continue training and competing.

Yeah, that's her, Nastia Liukin. I got wrong about where she achieved her success. I think not every attractive blonde girls look alike. :) I can totally believe if somebody says they were siblings especially due to their eyes. I saw Nastia commenting for Simone Biles before Rio and felt Nastia and Madison's way of speaking are somewhat similar. Anyway, the video makes me curious about Madison. She looks much younger for her age, so I was surprised by her age too.

Oh my, I didn't know about that and I cannot fully realize...I'm just sorry for her, she is really great and could have achieved the gold in Tokyo.

why would she force her to retire? isn't she like the 2nd Kanaeva?

I only like rhythmic gymnastics and I only got into it recently. I love Margarita Mamun and Yana Kudryatseva also. I just sort of see it as an extension of ballet. I mean that is really how it got started whereas artistic gymnastic's history does not tie with ballet a all. It's quite admirable what these ladies do.

Yana had a serious ankle injury last August 2015, just a month before World Championships in Stuttgart. She competed in pain and injured. She went to surgery a week after that, but it did not heal well. She said after Rio that she never practised her routines completely even 1 time because of her injury. She needs another 2 more surgeries if she wants to continue, but with rehab she is going to loose an entire year.
There is also another problem, the new CoP. Soldatova, Averina Twins, Titova, Ermolova Sergeeva and Romanova will have the advantage with this, and if Yana skops an entire season she will not be as consistent or remarkable for Tokio.

Viner thinks she has the right to choose for her gymnasts. I think she wants to protect Yana, because her chances of reaching 2020 without injuries are really low

I truly respect Kohei. He’s achieved so many and taken the titles. But still he cant d stop challenging. I knew his dillenma he has been having about gymnastics. Although he had so many big titiles as indivisual, this sport didn’t get popular in this country. I went to the competitions several times at Yoyogi, and shocked I could buy the tickets on that day and had many vacant seat. Cant imagine such a situation in figure skating field when yuzu comes! As @specps pointed at summer olympics, he showed his wife and children after realizing the importance of media against his policy until then shockingly.
He is the top athlete of all of sports, not only gymnastics. Im expecting his activity from now. And stay healty, Kohei!

One good thing about it is that gymnastics tickets are so cheap and after the competiton, the gymnasts can go into the audience and greet fans in person. Other than Uchimura, I was able too see all the other gymnasts up-close when I went last year.
But I hope that Uchimura's new management will help him bring gymnastics more to the public consciousness.

I like the king of twisting- Kenzo Shirai. I think that since he's so good at twisting his body, he would have been great jumper if he trained in figure skating :p
also I like that he always does Yurchenko vaults, waiting for his quadruple twisting Yurchenko~ :hap10:

WHAT! I thought he would stick around and compete in Tokyo! would have been nice if he competed one last time at home olympics and retire.:( at home it would be easier to become triple all around champion.

He hasn't retired. He's just skipping most of the competitions this next season while recovering from some injuries. He's changed his management from Konami Club to be an independent pro gymnast. -But he will still compete. Up till now, all gymnasts in Japan have belonged to a club, university or company. But Uchimura wants to do things more independently now without having to run everything through Konami (which have their own products and things they promote) so by becoming an individual pro-gymnast, he can promote Gymnastics itself. -And choose his own sponsors. It's never been done before, so it will be interesting to see how it goes.
