Thanks for the link! Those ARE great pics. I wish I could do that with MY facial hair, but I just can't get it to grow that way *SIGH*.... Oh, well, even if I could I wouldn't look nearly that good anyway... :D

The third pic on the top row (the close up of the face) should be your avatar. :)

Soogar - his body poses says a lot about him. He definitely is an artistic skater and I would add dancer. Like Lambiel he has a style which I look for. in skating. I enjoy skaters that are not clones. and quads don't get to me unless they are executted with good flow out and the program continues right away.

My list of male skaters with style are few: Abt, vdPerren, Lambiel,Klimkin and we'll see about Johnny.

Ironically, I'd say that since Morozov became his choreographer and coach, Kevin VDP looks like just Yagudin wannabe to me aka clone. Personally, he completely lost all the appeal he used to have. He is very elegant and when he is "on" he is lovely to watch. But I think his programs... :sheesh:

Nonetheless, I was very happy for him at Worlds after his LP. He skated so well and he was so happy, it was impossible not to smile with his joy :)

Wow, those pics are very interesting. I saw him for the first time this past season and I thought he was wonderful. He definitely is one of my favorites (even without the quad or a consistent 3a).

Listen, anyone who can do ballet spots while jumping en l'aire on skates is a phenonema in my book. It's a +3 for each clean landing.

Joesitz;

I'm not really into Kevin VDP because it's really weird, but his performances don't do a lot for me. Yet when I look at the pictures, he really does have beautiful body lines and dancer poses. I appreciate him more in still frames than I do on video.

Having just seen Ilya Klimkin's performances, I'm a fan b/c he's a hottie. However I don't think of Klimkin as an artistic skater. He has really cool moves and interesting transitions and so forth, however it seems as if he doesn't really finish the movements. He has a ragged style, especially in his spins. He would be really great if he focused on polishing up those cool moves of his.

Looking at the various pictures of the guys, another thing that struck me is how graceful Plushenko looks in still frame. It's really interesting because Plush has lots of fire and charisma and sometimes his skating is choppy, however his body postions are absolutely those of a ballet dancer.

IIRC Dick Button severely criticised Kevin for this, saying that he will never have a quad because spotting slows down the rotation a tad and is not proper form in figure skating. Somehow figure skaters are supposed to be able to spin and jump without spotting, yet still not get dizzy. I don't know how they do it.

Soogar - Year, I agree with you on Klimkin. He is special. I would even go so far as to say he is unique. As for hottie, that's your taste and it is subliminal when judging skaters :) . Kevin did do an excellent LP in Dortmund. I don't believe he is in Klimkin's class yet but he's young on the scene. Plushy is choppy in his skating and overly posing for rests and gawking at the crowds reactions but he doesn't have to do that. He has the talent to be a really great skater even without the quads.

Mathman - Spotting would slow down a jump on skates, but maybe Kevin can still do a quad with the spotting. Male ballet dancers are now doing 8 and 9 rotations on their pirouettes and the Females are doing 6 on toe!!! Oh, this younger generation. :rolleye:
