The Japanese are back in gymnastics. Nice for the USA and Romania.

Romania's first team medal! USA's first medal in 20 years, and Japan's first gold in 24...a big night for gymnastics.

But not for the Chinese team!

I know! How sad! Especially after that fluff piece where they pretty much said "nothing less than gold" would be good enough for China. I feel bad for them. They were spectacular on the pommel horse.

BTW, who the made the apparatus finals? I tried to look on the NBC site, but they haven't updated it.

Morgan Hamm and I are getting married, unless that is, he sounds like his brother when he talks. I couldnt help but laugh when he opened his mouth for the first time in an interview after clinching the team silver... its like when you first hear mike tyson's little voice. You just expect something stronger and lower from such a burely athlete.

What was that business of the 9.125 on rings for Gatson? Something about an "unfinished routine?"

I have to tell you something funny that happened during the qualifying round. RG Jr. saw Paul get up to do a routine right after Morgan, and she asked "Why does he have to do it again?"

She didn't know they were twins (or brothers, for that matter)--but she thought it was really funny when I explained it to her!! :) :D

That is soo funny. I was taken back by his voice. Wow he needs a little base in his voice.

Now, let's not pick on the gymnasts. Have you ever heard soccer star David Beckham speak? Talk about high-pitched and lacking in bass...

A lot of those guys seem to talk like that. I personally think it has to do with the proximity of their private parts to the pommel horse; they hit the thing too many times while learning the apparatus during their formative years......

I have to wonder what the fallout and consequences are going to be for the Chinese team. It's probably not going to be pretty...... :( :( :(

Interesting with Gymnastics and other judging Sports that a fall is marked down severely, and a mishap is marked down sufficiently. Not so in figure skating, the judges would say: oh, he/she caught an edge (for the fall) or that little bobble should be overlooked. The worst is "I saw him do it in practice".

When will figure skating learn it's what one does on THAT NIGHT and no excuses. Those poor Chinese may well be the best in gymnastics but they weren't THAT NIGHT.

Most male gymnasts, it seems are stunted in all areas (voice, height), with the exception of Blaine Wilson. His voice seems fairly baritone. Bart Conner and Mitch Gaylord's voices seemed to get deeper after they retired. Kurt Thomas, now in his forties, makes exercise commercials, and his voice is fairly low.
