One of Skatings Best Figure Skaters of All Time
It's funny we always forget a part of figure skating history that should be preserved. One of the greatest female figure skaters of all time was Trixi Schuba. No she was not a great free skater, but when it came to tracing figures no one could catch her. It always bugged me at the time that she could be awarded the gold medal at a World or Olympic championship on the strength of her figures - but that's the way figure skating was judged in those days. Now of course, it could not happen. I did not really appreciate figures then because they seemed so tedious, and they do take a great deal of skill and patience. I often wonder now how things would turn out if skaters were still required to trace figures as part of a championship. Interesting thought!!
