GULIAKOVA  and Trusova! That's a terrific surprise to me!!! I'm very excited to see them competing ...

The Russian girls are absolutely the favorites but let's take a look over Nguyen (great jumper) and Korean Girls ... There's no fresh infos about Matsuoka and Takino (Takino's FS wasn't good at Nationals).

so excited for new season, only few weeks away!! :yahoo: cant wait to see Riko, i was so impressed with her during nationals, she is such firecracker :luv17: and she has Nobu on her side, as long as she doesnt get math lessons from him she should be fine :biggrin:
and i hope to see more diversity on podium, esp from ladies

I found some information on Riko. She competed at Japanese nationals and got 14th place. She also went to Bavarian Open in February and placed. Here's her SP:

Akari is a rising junior. I'm still looking for more information.

Looks like USA's extra ladies spot came from Germany not using theirs. China also had a ladies' spot here that they didn't use, but Germany's is technically first in the priority list.

Japan got an extra men's spot, since Israel didn't send anyone (and neither did France, Ukraine, or Great Britain).

Dance is incredibly depressing. 10 teams (for now...) from 6 countries. I like when there's JGP events NOT in Europe to spread the experience around, but the few times it's been in Australia it seems so sadly unattended.

Dance is incredibly depressing.

Not really. It's unpredictable at the top, and that's fun. Lajoie & Lagha, Lewis & Bye, and Polischuk & Vakhnov have been in the same ballpark if you look at their results over the past two seasons.

The field is limited because most of the dance countries are in Europe and their skaters have no need to travel when all the other JGP events are in Europe. Only Russia has to do so because they have enough teams to attend all of the events. It is too bad that there are not more 4CC junior teams. But there aren't. If more events were held outside of Europe or if athletes were assigned events as they are on the GP, then more Europeans teams would likely travel. But they don't have to. So they don't.

Which is fine. It makes the attendance uneven throughout the JGP events, but it is more affordable for athletes from small federations. And once the podium is full, the podium is full. Between Russia, the U.S., and Canada, there are always enough top dance teams to make traveling not worth it if you aren't competitive.

I'm aware of most of this. I just think the small roster size is sad, even if I know why it's small and even though there are some exciting teams present.

I can't believe we're in this time of the year already :drama: As always though, no matter where first JGP is held, it's always the one one with least entries... Well, all the better for skaters who wil actually compete here :)

Kovalev!

Ladies looks interesting too.
Kovalev has 3A now. He landed 3A at Moscow competition at April 2017. His coach was so happy.

Ladies - Trusova is very good, Gulyakova is good too. It's interesting how will skate Japanese girls and Kaityn Nguyen ahn who will be from Korea. I hope we will see at least 6 good ladies.

So happy to see kovalev in the first jgp. He made a great impression despite being so young, and I can see him amongst the top contenders along with skirda and torgashev now that a lot of the men have moved to seniors.

Ah, Trusova for the first JGP? Gah, that only makes the waiting so much more difficult!

I wonder if it's too much to expect both a quad as well as a 3A in her first competition. Probably not, right?
