Lack of Press Coverage for Skating Events

While I"m generally not a "letter writer", I do try to send e-mails to the sports department when a paper has a good article on skating, either at the elite or a local level. Even if I don't agree with what they say, I want to let them know that there are fans who are interested in reading the articles and appreciate their covering the sport.

Figure skating is still not considered to be a "sport" in the macho-men world of print journalism. It's all fluff and show-biz glitz, with some judging scandals thrown in on the side.

"Sports Illustrated" used to carry decent coverage on the US Nationals and the Worlds, but even this coverage has dwindled in recent years. Now, instead of a feature story with photos, it's a bullet-item or a similarly-watered down piece on the competition.
