This was just released by NBC news. She will begin her sentence on October 8 check in by 2pm.. Alderson is in Southern WV in the same area as the Greenbrier. Martha will be arriving in time for full Fall foliage color. I'm sure she is disappointed as she wanted to be closer to her Mother. Alderson is nicknamed "Camp Cupcake" . After chores there is tennis, volleyball, softball, and aerobics (hmmm. no ice skating, wouldn't that be considered cruel and unusual punishment?) Other famous alumni are Billy Holliday, Lynette "Squeeky" Fromme, and Sara Jane Moore.

I was trying to find some more info about Alderson and came upon this site.
Who knew there is a "Penpal of the Week" program for prisoners? Anybody out there who missed out on one of the Menendez brothers....there's still hope! :D

We haven't caught Bin Laden, but at least we can sleep easy knowing that Martha Stewart is off the streets.

But Martha brings some of her problems on herself. Her biggest concern in turning herself in early was so she could be out in time to plant her spring garden. :rolleye:

I seriously was thinking maybe she could help other inmates with ideas, etc., to help them. I get the idea she will be doing all the painting, making curtains, whatever to her cell.

I think it's "A GOOD THING'" :D that she has a positive outook and is looking beyond her incarceration. The statement at her website says(from http://www.marthatalks.com/)

As you can imagine, going to jail voluntarily is an extremely difficult decision, especially when you believe you have a very strong appeal and may never have to serve the sentence. But I know I am doing the right thing for me and for my company. If events unfold as I have been led to believe, I will have this ordeal behind me and be back to work before spring planting season.

Her previous statement about the garden (from http://money.cnn.com/2004/09/15/news/newsmakers/martha/index.htm)

Stewart did not shed any light on that question Wednesday. She quickly left the news conference after reading her statement. In closing, however, she said she hoped to be out of jail in time to plant her spring garden in March.

"I know I have a very tough five months ahead of me," she said. "But I understand that I will get through those months knowing that I have the ability to return to my normal and productive life."

I don't think that she was being glib. I take it that she was referring to Spring as the time of renewal, planting a new garden, starting her life over.

From our evening paper today (http://www.dailymail.com/news/News/2004093030/?pt=0)

Crews of prison inmates help the city do beatification projects by cleaning streets, trimming hedges and planting flowers.

Inmates' work is generally limited to spring and summer, but Craft said it would be nice if the people in charge would let Stewart design a holiday scene or allow her to put her decorating skills to use during her stay.

Grgranny,
At Alderson they are not allowed to have any decorations in their cells. :(

I hope that she will be able to make some contributions to the prison coimmunity a la Jean Harris. The brevity of her sentence will prevent her from doing much.

Perhaps Martha's biggest penalty will be her lack of projects to do while serving time. Maybe, she will have enough time on her hands to think about the consequences of her actions. But then of course, I am sure she will write a book....oh well there goes that theory.

:D
