I'm sure I missed something over the summer.....

The CoP system will be used at 2005 World's, right? (maybe not....)

I just read in an event post that 6.0 will be used at 2005 US Nationals??

If that above is correct, why would the USFA want to use the old system for choosing the World team? Doesn't seem to make much sense. But I'm getting a bit befuddled as I age, so maybe I've got it all wrong!

You have it right: while the USFS is updating the rules for competitions this year to include other changes, such as the new definition of "well-balanced program," 6.0 will be used at USFS events until 2006 Nationals.

USFS wasn't as keen as Skate Canada to embrace CoP. Skate Canada had trained 46 Technical Specialists/Controllers through 3 September, and they are planning to implement CoP for 2005 Nationals. The news item on SC's site concludes with, "Another 60 individuals will be trained in Ottawa in September ensuring there will be enough qualified people to cover all the events this season." (http://www.skatecanada.ca/en/news_views/news/2004_2005/04_sep3.cfm)

I don't know if it's more of a logistics issue to train all of the people needed in the US -- i.e., if there are more events and more judges and equipment needed. But the US was trying to influence the ISU to eliminate secret judging before accepting CoP, and it may have been seen as bad strategy to start implementing the system -- i.e., investing a dime -- while trying to change it at the same time. Kudriatsev, in an interview, said the Russian coaches didn't believe it would be implemented, at least before 2006, so they ignored it last year. (The Russian Federation was trying to squash it for implementation at Moscow Worlds, but CoP was voted in for all ISU events beginning with 2005.)

Thanks Hockeyfan!!

Thanks for Unbefuddling me. How could I possibly forget the never ending politiks of this sport! <slaps forhead muttering "could have had a V8">

I am certainly in favor of the elimination of sekret komputers though, so I can understand why USFSA may have pushed back.
