What's everyone's favorite movie scores? Just out of curiosity, thought it would stir up some great light conversation.

I think Alexander is an excellent soundtrack, as is Yared's Troy, but I can't just pick one soundtrack for all tiem for me. Here's my favorites.

Historical/Mythological/Religious Epic:

Troy by Gabriel Yared
The Ten Commandments by Elmer Bernstein
Alexander by Vangelis

Animated

Sleeping Beauty
The Hunchback of Notre Dame

Spiderman 2
LOTR
Star Wars quintology (all 5 scores not sure if that is the correct word)
Batman (Danny Elfman)
Peter Pan (James Newton Howard, 2003)
Dragonheart

Horror

The Omen
Psycho
Halloween
The Ring
The Mummy (Goldsmith, 1999)
Dracula (Phillip Glass, to the original 1931 version)
The Haunting (Goldsmith, 1999)
The Ninth Gate

Action

Armageddon
The Mummy Returns
The Scorpion King
Pirates of the Carribean

Romance

Romeo + Juliet (Armstrong)
Romeo and Juliet (Rota)

My number one favorite - Robin Hood - Prince of Thieves!

I also love the soundtracks to Mr. Holland's Opus, Little Women, The American President, Seabiscuit, Pirates of the Caribbean, Sense & Sensibility, Dragon, First Knight, & Independence Day, to name a few.

Pleased to meet a fellow Kamen fan!

I should add Robin Hood: Prince of Thieves to the list as well, and The Three Musketeers, and Mr. Holland's Opus as well, and X-Men.

I hope someone uses the music from Van Helsing. Hmm, Evgeni as Dracula? Veeery nice.

I also like Pirates of the Caribbean. Would've loved to have seen Sasha Abt skate to it. *sigh*

The music from The Village is gorgeous, too.

OMG how could I have forgotten The Village?! I'm slipping!

The Village is gorgeous, and terrifying at the same time. I love it! It's Howard's best, BY FAR.

The Sixth Sense, Signs and Unbreakable are all amazing scores too.

I've only heard hte songs from West Side Story, even though I have the movie there didn't seem to be much of a score to it. But maybe it was just very subtle.

Beauty and The Beast is also a great score. Gotta love Menken. I like most of his scores.

Van Helsing! That's a great score too! And Harry Potter series is turning out very well too!

I've forgotten so many of my favorites I'm shocked at myself LOL.

I'm so passionate about film scores!!!

1. Unfaithfull
2a. Dragonheart
2b. Legends of the Fall
3. Chocolat
4. Working Girl
5. Sleeping Beauty (although I am hesitant to characterize it as a film score as it is basically thematically the same as the Tchaikovsky ballet)
6. Last of The Mohicans
7. Little Women
8. Far and Away
9. Gone with the Wind
10. The Truman Show
11. The Mission
12. American Beauty
15. Labrynth
16. A River Runs Through It
17. The Godfather
18. Patton (an odd choice I know, but my high school band played it so its got sentimental value to me)
19. ET
20. Terms of Endearment

I'm sure I will think of more!!!

And I did!...

An Affair to Remember
Amistad
Jaws!!!
10 (an excuse to include bolero on the list)

I'll also add Lord of the Rings, Band of Brothers, 1492 (I haven't seen the movie, but I  the music), Jurassic Park, Schindler's List, Life is Beautiful,
Gettysburg, A Clockwork Orange, Amadeus, & Fantasia. I wish I had the music from the Danny Kaye movie "Hans Christian Andersen" (I can't get the song "Wonderful Copenhagen" out of my mind).

I love Broadway musicals! My favorite roadway musical scores are Camelot (Broadway cast with Julie Andrews, please), the Sound of Music, Oklahoma, The King & I, South Pacific, My Fair Lady, & Gigi.

Re: Disney scores (besides Fantasia) - I love The Little Mermaid, Mulan, & Beauty & the Beast the most.

I am very grateful to skating for exposing me to many soundtracks that I might not otherwise have discovered. :)

I won't officially count Kubrick's films since he never used original scores ("Too much great music in the world to try to do better with something new"). However, the way Kubrick used everything from "The William Tell Overture" ("Clockwork Orange") to Ligeti ("2001") prompts me to put Kubrick at the top of my list of directors who really knew how to score their films with existing music.

As for original scores:
Badlands
Rumble Fish
My Life as a Dog
Unfaithful -- Would love to see a SP to the music from the first adultery scene. If I had a similar encounter with Olivier Martinez, I'd be shaking naked too!
Ghost Dog: The Way of the Samurai
The English Patient
The Thin Blue Line (Glass)
Catch Me if You Can
Road to Perdition
North by Northwest
Vertigo
Casanova (Rota)
The Piano (Nyman)
To Kill a Mockingbird
Where Angels Fear to Tread
Starman
Mountains of the Moon
Hair
West Side Story -- the Bernstein re-recording
Blue Velvet
Lawrence of Arabia
Casablanca
Psycho
Stop Making Sense
Sid and Nancy
This is Spinal Tap

Hahahahahaha!!! I am also dying to see someone skate to this score!!! Have you noticed how much they steal the dramatic main theme and put it in trailers for upcoming movies? Its also used in the opening of "cold case files" on cbs.

I'm surprised more people have put down the soundtrack to Titanic. Like the movie or hate the movie, it had a beautiful score.
