The attached link takes you to Katarina Witt's official website. It's a very short biography, but the website contains numerous interesting items for your perusal.

For those of us who are old enough to remember, Katarina was one of the most successful competitive figure skaters in modern history. During the 1980s, Katarina won six European championships, four World championships, and two Olympic gold medals. I remember her two Olympic victories, in 1984 and in 1988. Witt was stunning in both competitions, IMHO.

Katarina competed for the now-defunct German Democratic Republic, and she trained under the old East German sports machine. State-funded training,
"privileges" such as overseas travel, apartments, cars, and a small amount of spending money, etc. Certainly, what Witt received from the GDR paled in comparison with the mega bucks that Michelle Kwan has earned over the years while she is still an eligible skater.

Anyway, enjoy the website!
