She was so beautiful as a young girl! What exactly is "fours"? (I see that it involved 4 skaters but I don't know anything about this aspect of figure skating.)

Fours was four skaters doing pairs elements, but with four people. There's a video of Howerton & Pottenger and Schmidt & Pottenger on www.icechampions.com. For the most part they skate as two pairs, but as their last element the four skaters perform a death spiral together. That's the sort of thing that fours did. Supposedly there was also a 12s competition. Exciting!

Fours was very popular here in Canada during the golden years of figure skating. Still to do this day many of our pairs champions perform together in fours and still compete at the national level. It involves two sets of pair teams skating the same choreography. It's really cool to see. I have seen many of our pair teams perform this unique feature of old school skating in ice shows.
