Well, if Plush will get to read this article 5 minutes before the LP, Mike does have a chance of winning over him, while Plush won't stand a single jump because he's constantly falling over laughing hysterically....

I am surprised that this topic has only gotten 2 pages and 21, now 22 responses to it. When we had another topic about When/If Should Skaters Hire Publicists where a skater allegedly said something as unintelligent as Michael and was chastised for 4 pages and 76 posts. I am not sure what to think about this.

Hey Dee, give us a chance, give us a chance! We're not finished with Mikey yet!

Actually, I didn't think what he said was so bad. When he said, "I'm sure (Plushenko) feels the same way," I don't think that Michael meant that Plusheko thought that WEISS could possibly beat him, but rather that Plushenko had confidence in his own abilities, just like Weiss does, just like "a number of athletes" do.

You and I might think that Weiss' only chance to make the podium is if the Chinese team withdraws and the Rusian team all come down with injuries (then it might be Honda, Joubert, Weiss). But we can't blame Michael for keeping up a bold front.

And who knows? He might land his quad Axel.

Nahhhhhhh.

Tangent

This might be a bit of a tangent from the original topic, but there were two things that struck me:

1) Any of you athletes out there? Ever notice how you can do absolutely magnificant programs at home? If my horse and I put in front of the dressage judge what we can do at home when only our instructor is watching, and if every other rider put in front of the judge what they normally do, well, we'd do pretty darned well.

Some of what you'all are thinking of arrogance is actual reality for athletes. What an athlete is capable of is rarely what you see at the competition, meaning, it is perfectly plausible for Mike to consider winning. He probably CAN do it at home.

2) Did you notice that Frank Caroll agreed to train Mike, going into it with a distinct dislike for the man? He says he was fully prepared to hate him. Hello? You accepted a student that you thought you would hate? For what purpose? To undermine him so your other student could win more handily? Glad Mr. Caroll ended up not hating the guy. Jeez!

Mike doesn't need a hypnotherapist....he needs a witch doctor to perform voodoo on his competitors.:p

Michael, puts another Nail in his own coffin. Stupid statmens like this article is just gives not only US skating fans but, fans world wide not to like him. He is way too full of himself. I am all for speaking your mind. Hence, I am a Major Alexei fan. But, Alexei has Major TALENT. & Prior to his injury was always # 1 or # 2 in 2000. There is NO WAY that mike can beat Plush. Unless Plus falls over laughing at this article:rollin: :rollin: :rollin: . Or Plush has a Mental breakdown. At Worlds this Year for the men. Instead of just Bronze up for grabs because, everyone knew when Alexei & Plush skated. Only Bronze was up for grabs. Just like at the Olympics. But, this year with Alexei out. Silver & bronze up.

I have to agree with Frank on this. He is way to Macho Mahco Macho man. Or at least trying to appear that way. I guess he wants to prove to everyone that he is not gay. ( He has stated that in an interview that I read a few years ago.) He dose not want the label stuck to him. . But, I must say that He is an interesting read. Never boaring:lol:

Re: Tangent

Pather 2000, I hear that Alexei may be attending Worlds on a couple of days he has off from SOI. Anyhow, I know he would love to be in this competition. I give him so much credit for wanting to be there. What a guy!! I wonder even with his injury if he could beat Michael. I'll put $50 on it. I hope Paula doesn't think this bet is for real.

Dee, I absolutely think an injured Alexei can beat a healthy Mike.

Do I think Mike needs a good publicist? Absolutely. I just think what he said is too freakin' funny to take seriously...

Re: Michael Weiss Article from Washington Post

Well, that's my take on this: show me the money! If you only talk about it, well... I still wouldn't mind, but the incident with Weir has shown that it can have an effect on his fellow competitors, especially where they're young and inexperienced. So maybe Mike's not using it only as a way of reassuring himself, but as a way of intimidating his rivals as well.

As for voodoo... Abt is already out, three (or four) more to go. ;)

Btw, I like Mike's skating, and I wouldn't mind seeing him on the podium at Worlds - if he skates well (there's something unfulfilling about getting ahead only because there was a splatfest). But the first place? Not with Plush present.

(We ain't scared of some voodoo dolls! ;) )

Dee, not everyone chastised Yags in that thread. I sure didn't. :)

Edited to say (didn't see your next post before I hit send): I'd bet more than $50 that Yags with his injury could beat healthy Weiss. Maybe they should let him skate at Worlds after all now that Abt is out. Maybe he will? Like I always say, with Yags you never know.

Mike's Intimidation Ploy

Mike could very well be using this as an intimidation factor, but, I imagine a skater like Plushenko doesn't think twice about Weiss. I should probably shut up, if I send too much negative energy Mike's way, he'll end up pulling a Butirskaya of 99 Worlds and winning. LOL, to mention Maria, I think Mike is the Butirskaya of men's skating. Both are talented and have some impressive attributes, one of which includes an overactive mouth.

Doris Pulaski,
You must be thinking the same thing I was. As for Weiss beating Plushenko, my question is Where and When did this happen? It must have been in his dreams. That's the only place Michael Weiss beat both Plushenko and Yagudin.

Re: Mike's Intimidation Ploy

Actually, for one of his World Bronze medals, Mike did beat Plush. (Actually, Plush beat Plush in that event by self destructing.)

As to Mike beating Yagudin, he probably did back in the 1997 time frame or earlier? Mike has been around a long time.

But in this time and place, it is hard to think about Mike and Evgeni inside the same head at the same time, let alone Mike beating Evgeni.

One thing this article did bring out, and other posters have mentioned it, is the very compliant, coachable nature of Mike. It does make one wonder who tells him that these are good things to say. It also makes one wonder how controlling his family is of him. Consider all the hours building big muscles in his FATHER'S Gold's Gym when that was not a good thing to do for skating.

I will have to be more charitable about Mike than I have been. I hadn't thought of him as a mentally abused child before.

I don't know Doris, as far as wild conspiracy theories go, I favor the "the wife controls him" scenerio. I think that her rink-side lurking has taken on a Suzanne Bonaily quality.

DEE4707 I will be watching in Hoping to see Alexei in the crowd.:p :p

But, in regards to Mike beating Both Plush & Yags. Yeah it did happen. But, not like Mike makes it sound.

He beat Plush back in I think( Not sure of the year) But, either 96 or 97. Needles to say that Plush was a baby. But, it was when Alexei won his second World title. My Bad Also when Alexei won his 1st World title. Alexie just beat out Todd.

As for beating Alexei. The only time that every happen was at the Good Will Games last year. Everyone & their mother knows it was because, Alexei was starving himself & did not have the strength to skate.

So Michael beat them both when 1) they were babies & just finished nursing:lol: or
2) Someone starves themselves & is a much weaken state. That is how Mike beath both Alexei & Plush.

Mike gets on my last nerve but, He does make me & the entire skating world laugh with his statements.;) I hope that he keeps it up:rollin:

Michael Weiss is merely voicing the timely patriotic idea that Americans are superior to all. He will be up against FRENCH, RUSSIAN and CHINESE skaters. Those people represent disobedient Foreign interests. We as Americans need to rally behind Weiss in his campaign to assert American supremacy. If any of you criticizing Weiss is an American, you are a traitor just like the Dixie Chicks!
