US Referee OUT for dispute with Cinq.

Hey all,

Apparently, the ISU doesn't believe in freedom of expression! Even though they apparently DO believe that cheating judges should not only judge again, but get prestigious events. Sound fair to anyone????

The US referee scheduled for the ladies event has been dumped by Ottavio and the ISU. Guess he had too many opinions?

Business as usual for the ISU. (cynic that I am)

Lovely. Can't someone stage a putsch to oust Speedy? The man is a dictator!

But it's Cinquanta's freedom of expression to express his wishes for getting rid of this guy. I'm just kidding, folks. I stole that argument from the people who said radio stations have the right to ban Dixie Chicks songs just 'cause one of the Chicks exercised her right to dissing the prez. The moral of the lesson is, don't abuse the "but it's freedom of speech" argument. There is usually a better one.

Emperor's New Clothers

You remember the old story? No one would tell the emperor that he had no clothes on because they were afraid he would fire them?

Well, Speedy has just proved that they were right to not tell the emperor about it.

The referee said, "Hey, Speedy. How can I determine if the skater's were ranked properly by judges if I don't know how the judges ranked the skaters?"

And Speedy just said, "Idiot referree, you tell me that you can't do your job? Obviously you are not qualified to do your job and must be fired."

All we need now is some little ditty from Gilbert and Sullivan's the Mikado to go with this silliness.

Re: US Referee OUT for dispute with Cinq.

Boxing has four different divisions. Why don't the countries who do not agree with the new judging system just break away from the ISU and start their own Skating Union. That would hurt them (the ISU) in their pocket book since the U.S. is where a lot of the money comes from. I think Canada would join and they are another country where money is made by the ISU.
Maybe Speedy should sit down with his brain and have a heart to heart discussion about what he is doing to the future of figure skating. Unless of course his brain is still in SLC....if in fact he ever had one.

 $peedy can take his pink slip and shove it up his @**. The way this man runs the ISU is truly frightening. Maybe the US judge will wake up tomorrow and find a horse head in his bed!

Re: GRRRRRR

I hope that planned strike happens in DC. It's time to send in the military to get rid of that idiot.

But I strongly suspect, repeat suspect that someone else is pulling the strings behind Speedy. I'm thinking he is having some sort of a relationship with another ISU official whose interests would be questionable.

On another note, I find it interesting that the US advised it made an admin error for the Russian referee because of a visa, and he would not have any trouble entering the USA. I keep thinking about AP whom the Russians would not accommodate because of a visa snafu.

It's time to form another international organization for figure skating.

I know Christmas has passed, and it is too early for next Christmas...but

"All we want for Christmas is Cinquanta gone...Cinquanta gone...Cinquanta gone.

If we get for Christmas is Cinquanta gone...then maybe we'll get some better leading (judging, skating...or whatever ending in ING)."

I'll take this Christmas present at any time of year.:rollin:

Re: GRRRRRR

Joe, any guesses to who's pulling Speedy's strings? I think the IOC needs to step in. Speedy was Juan Antonio Samaranch's type of guy. Rogge seems intent on cleaning up the IOC, I wonder whether he'll start on the individual unions as well. I hope he does.

Re: GRRRRRR

I have a suspicion the person pulling Speedy's strings is someone very well placed in the Russian Federation...that seems to make the most sense.

Yes, Dr. Rogge is interested in cleaning up the mess and the 115th Session of the IOC is July 2-7 in Prague. By the way, Speedy is a member of the IOC and I do not believe his colleagues at the IOC are at all happy with him and his antics. Speedy and his antics need to be made a hot item at that meeting and decisively dealt with...that is a battle we can deal with after Worlds and we shall. Let's let Worlds play out so that we can get more ammo (I am sure that ample will be supplied) to deal with this situation.

thartelle and Emilianne - Yes, by all means get Rogge on his tail. I didn't know speedy is also on IOC? The bas==rd makes a lot money and causes more trouble.

It does not make sense...

Why pick on the women's event.

Oh, I get it....

It is very likely that the US will win all the medals! That, my dear, is unwelcomed in the ISU world. No country is supposed to win all medals except...

Re: GRRRRRR

"U.S. referee Ron Pfenning, the whistle-blower in the Salt Lake City Olympic scandal who has been an outspoken critic of the current judging system, was dismissed yesterday as a referee at next week's 2003 World Figure Skating Championships in Washington..."

Gosh, what a surprise that $peedy doesn't want somebody around who is known have the integrity to blow the whistle on IOC corruption. Pfenning is definitely not $peedy's kind of guy.

I agree, Joe. I don't think $peedy would be so sure of his power if he didn't have some powerful hands holding him up. I too really hope the demonstration takes place in DC, although I'm afraid Speedy has thought of that too. I'm sure he's using the war to make any kind of demonstration illegal for "safety" reasons. The security folks in DC don't know that the most dangerous dude in the place is running things.

Well, if on the broadcast, they show a lone guy with a sign saying "DUMP THE ISU" and chanting, "Hey hey, ho ho, Ottavio has got to go!" I'll know it's you, Joe, and I'll be proud.

Emilianne,
I think the federations are planning to take over. I think it's a matter of needing to get things in place, get things aligned with Rogge, and deal with whatever powers that Speedy has in place. A slow process, especially when I'm sure a lot of people are scared about losing their jobs.

Joe,

For once I agree with you!!!! CinquantaBanana must go!! What a jackass.

Hope everyone here that's going to Worlds has their placards ready. Of course, there may not be anyone left to judge at the rate he's going at tossing them out.

Is it PIC to refer to him as the Skate Nazi (with apologies to Seinfeld)?

Sk8cynic - We agree a lot more than you think. Our differences are the war and although I love Sasha's skating I do not think she is the best thing since chopped liver. And yes we agree on Speedy. Strange man.

LOL - something else we agree on!! I just happen to prefer her style of skating.

....Besides, have you ever tasted chopped liver? It looks like tile grout and tastes like what I imagine boiled sweatsocks would. At least, that's what I've thought the times I have tried it. :p

Ron Pfenning resigned from the ISU Technical Committee also

More has happened (will get links and post again)...

Since being "fired" by Speedy, Ron Pfenning has resigned from the ISU Technical Committee. I know this sounds awful, but I think it is a blessing in disguise.

By removing himself from any ISU officialdom, Mr. Pfenning puts himself in a position where he can take the matter to the Court for the Arbitration of Sport (CAS), which I read someplace else (if that article is still around, I will post that link as well...if someone else finds it, please post it...thanks) he intends to do. The last thing in the world that Speedy and the rest of those ISU-o-crats want is for all of this dirty mess to be made even more public than it is, let alone being called to account for their actions or suffer any "punishments..." particularly with the 115th Session of the IOC coming up on July 2-7 in Prague.

It would not surprise me in the least if the IOC members are even angrier than ever with Speedy and want even more to pulverize the living daylights out of him and the ISU (I am being extremely polite here) for the embarrassment that is being caused by the ISU...particularly Speedy and his antics.

I know what goes around comes around, but remember that the longer something takes to go around before coming back around, the bigger the payoff.

Re: LOL

Sk8cynic - I live in NYC. Chopped liver is in abundance here.

If you really like Sasha, I would suggest if you find somewhere, a performance of Swan Lake and note the 3rd Act where the white swan somehow turns into a black swan. It is the black swan style that I like about Sasha and I am sure you will too.

anyway, I've never understood why one prince goes after birds (oh those feathers) and another goes after girls who have been sleeping for 1000 years (does he realize how old she is?).
