Best Pairs Performers of the 90s

Alright, you get the jist, your nod for the Best Pairs Performers from a Skating Decade?

Gordeyeva & Grinkov
Mishkutenok & Dmitriev
Brassuer & Eisler
Meno & Sand
Shiskova & Naumov
Kovarikova & Novotny
Yeltsova & Bushkov
Wotzel & Steuer
Berezhnaya & Sikharulidze
Kazakova & Dmitriev
Ina & Dungjen
Shen & Zhou

Okay, another almost obvious choice for me, definitely G&G. Wow, they just riveted me with every performance. They could have fallen on every jump and just the pure quality of their skating and unison would have kept me watching. M&D were a close second. They were so innovative and exciting. Not to mention incredibly versatile. Just compare their free skate from the 92 Olympics (which was more airy and elegant) and their free skate from 94 Olympics (intense and athletic).
Close!

1. Gordeyeva & Grinkov (True Legends)
2. Mishkutenok & Dmitriev
3. Brasseur & Eisler (I just loved them)
4. Kazakova & Dmitriev
5. Berezhnaya & Sikharulidze
6. Meno & Sand/Woetzl & Steuer (Couldn't decide!)
8. Kovarikova & Novotny
9. Yelstova & Bushkov
10. Ina & Dungjen
11. Shen & Zhou (Just weren't there yet for me)
12. Shiskova & Naumov (UUGH!)

Ice Dance

If these threads prove interesting at all, someone is more than welcome to start one for Ice Dancing. I almost never watch this discipline, although I do have some couples that I favor. BOURNE & KRAATZ!!!!!!!

Re: pairs

Gordeeva and Grinkov, the figure skating pair for all time.....anyone else would be a far distant second...

Re: Best Pairs Performers of the 90s

Even though G&G straddled from about '86 to '94, for either the '80s or '90s, IMO, it's G&G and everybody else. They were just reaching a whole new level as eligibles in '94 and pros from about '93 on, and then came Sergei's tragic death in '95.
Gordeeva & Grinkov
Mishkutenok & Dmitriev
Kazakova & Dmitriev
Berezhnaya & Sikharulidze
Brassuer & Eisler
Bechke & Petrov (Olympic silver in '92 and a great pro career with SOI afterwards)
Meno & Sand (not my faves, but World bronze and a consistent career with SOI)
Shiskova & Naumov (saw them live--an great team that got some bad breaks)
Kovarikova & Novotny (Lovely World champs, but never fulfilled their potential as pros)
Wotzel & Steuer (Ingo Steuer is one of the most beautiful movers in male skating I've seen. But this pair sure was accident prone!)
Ina & Dungjen
Yeltsova & Bushkov

Re: Best Pairs Performers of the 90s

HamiltonBrowningFan,

I didn't put Sale & Pelletier because they didn't really emerge as a force in the World scene until 2000, when they finished 4th at Worlds. Alexei was a two-time World Champion (98 and 99) during this time period. Now, if we started a thread for the best-so far of 2000's 1st decade, they'd be at or near the top for me.

Mishkutenok & Dmitriev
Kazakova & Dmitriev
Gordeyeva & Grinkov ( I know they are the perfection of pairs figure skating but I have always loved Artur and his partners’ dramatic flair on the ice)
Meno & Sand
Ina & Dungjen
Wotzel & Steuer
Berezhnaya & Sikharulidze
Shen & Zhou
Brassuer & Eisler (I'm not crazy about all the lifts and tricks they do)
Kovarikova & Novotny
Shiskova & Naumov ( I don't remember them)
Yeltsova & Bushkov (I don't remember them either)
