In my professional opinion....
This seems to be another reporter trying to use his comic relief to try and hide behind is lack of knowledge and the athletic requirements of our sport... Mr. Reporter, please bring any pro jock (Lady or Man) into my arena and let me put them thru the daily rituals of our sport...and even more difficult, a competition event... and then we'll see who is truly The Athlete!

Wow, this paints " a sad state of affairs" for Canadian figure skating. This sport was always big here. Maybe not as big as hockey, but just about every kid has learned to skate at one time or another.
This is obviously written by someone who is not a true figure skating fan. I am taking it with "tongue in cheek." I think that is the metaphore here.
the journalist really comes off as a jerk who doesnt know squat about skating...pfffff
