One thing I loved about The Oregonian coverage was the special section on Tuesday, 4 January, which not only showed how ice was prepared, including the infrastructure of the rink, but also how the zamboni works in four steps: 1. shaving the ice, 2. collecting the sludge, 3. smoothing the ice with a "conditioner" and 4. spreading clean water on the surface with a towel.

Also, on 10 January I received a text message from my friend Chris, a Portland native:
Very scary...today's newspaper projects what Disney character each top skater would be...help me! They are trying to keep people interested.

It was mostly comparing the ladies to the Disney Princess set, but they did compare Tonya Harding to The Beast (as in Beauty and The Beast). Not very nice at all.
