Okay, this could be a VERY long list if I really put some time into it but I'll just list a few that come to mind:

Worst:
Almost anything worn by Surya Bonaly

The "scarf" dresses of Irina Slutskaya

Most costumes worn by Alexander Abt

That awful black and white costume of Alexei Yagudin's with the long black sleeves with white "cords" that look like sausages. (That's the best way I can describe it :lol: )

Yagudin's Gladiator costume

All costumes worn by Lobacheva and Averbukh

Many of Victoria Volchkova's costumes

Best:

Most of Michelle Kwan's costumes, especially the gorgeous purple/raspberry-colored costume from Worlds 2001

Sarah Hughes's light blue SP dress from 2001, both of her 2002 Olympics dresses


I'm going to stop now because my husband wants to use the computer.:lol:

Sale/Pelletier's Love Story

It's interesting to see people so divided about S/P Love Story costumes. Personally, I like them - not too flashy, nice and simple and appropriate to the music and program's theme. What I'm wondering is: for those who didn't like them, what would you suggest they wear instead?

Regarding Love Story costumes: I rented the vintage movie and showed a couple of scenes to my husband so that he understood the "look" they were going for (and also the snow-ball throwing choreography). Once he understood the reference, he was OK with the design on the costume, but pointed out that both Ryan and Allie wore more attractive colors at various points in the film.

My problem with the costumes has nothing to do with either the color or the design, but the fact that I think the elastic in someone's skirt bottom has become a tad worn out.

I have no problem with the plainness of the costume; I think that's appropriate. The color grey is just so DRAB. Even dark blue would have been okay. "Grey" and "love" are not a match.

I am suprised that some people don't like the love story outfits. IMO the fact that they match is a triumph all on its own. Also, the fact that they are not very distracting is a triumph too. Alot of pairs/ice dancers don't wear outfits that match. Lobachevh/Aburbukh do seem to have the worst taste in outfits. Ice dancers collectively seem to have trouble picking outfits that are not horrid. some of you are making me LOL. Keep your thoughts, pictures and funny comments coming.

I think as far as the "Love Story" costumes go, the look is suppose to be college "prep". I think the gray and white is suppose to symbolize life and death (the gray of course being death). Just my guesses. I love analyzing this kind of stuff. 42

I love analyzing that stuff too. I also love critiquing the outfits that skaters are wearing. Their was alot of people griping awhile back on this thread that they disliked the long hair on many of the ice dancers. Well, I started a list of the male ice dancers that don't have long hair. So far these are the guys I have found:
Ben Agosto, Povilas Vanagas, Brandon Forsyth, Oleg Ovsiannikov.

inappropriate dress sighting

I wanted to bring this up because many made comments about it. I like Sarah Hughes skating so no one start in on me that I am bashing her. But, many people who posted on pages 1-2 of the thread thought that sarah's sp dress at nationals was not appropriate for the music "ave Maria" incase some don't know what I'm talking about here is a picture.

Hi RG,

I want to defend S&P's Love Story outfits. If you remember that insipid story and equally insipid movie, you'll recall that the pair were Ivy League/preppie types of the 1960's variety. The pre-anything-goes for dressing. The grey sweaters and dark skirt and pants carried that theme off well. Sort of like the man in the grey suit stuff which seemed cliche for 1950's and 1960's businessman.

If their music was to, say, "Hair," would you honestly expect to see the same outfits? OK, Fetal and company, we all know you'd just love to see an authentic version of "Hair" on ice, but even Tonya Harding passed on that one. (I wonder why Hugh Hefner never got her to pose for Playboy, ala Katerina Witt?) :rollin:

overall, I liked the costumes because they went with the movie theme, but I would rather have seen Jamie in a lighter top -- perhaps a cream or white cardigan instead of gray - and keep the gray skirt, there was just too too much gray for me. David's costume was perfect for the music IMO.

Sasha Cohen (2002 nationals LP)
Ina and Zimmerman (2002 LP nationals and SLC)
Sarah Hughes (SLC LP)
Tim Gobel (2002 LP)
All of Lang and won't even try to spell

Worst Costumes:
Annasina and Passerat (2002 FD @ SLC)
Michelle Kwan (2002 SP and LP)
Sasha Cohen (2002 LP @ SLC and Worlds)
Anything that doesn't fit!!!

Kefekers, I agree with you about ill-fitting costumes. When I see a costume like that (such as the ladies who have "wedgy" costumes :lol: ), I'm very distracted by the costume and can't enjoy the skating.

I agree that outfits that don't fit are not attractive. I also agree with the person who said MK long program dress. It was not up to her usual standards. Also that gap in the front did not help it. I agree also that Sasha's SLC LP outfit was not attractive. She should have stuck with her National LP dress:

This definitely would have been a better dress to where in the olympics then the dress she did where in the LP at SLC.

Johio2-Actually, Scott Hamilton did a very funny number to Hair in an outrageously large red wig. I couldn't find a picture though. I am surprised that Candeloro has not done Hair!
