Re: Favorite skating costumes

I always like Michelle Kwan's costumes, my favorites being her "lyra angelica" blue velvet and '01 fuschia dress for her "song of the black" swan lp at worlds.

Lu Chen was particularly elegant in '95 and '96, but always looks well dressed.

Elena Bereshnaya's dresses are always well done and beautiful- in particular I liked the maroon she wore for "dark eyes"

As professionals, Kristi Yamaguchi, Tara Lipinski and Ekaterina Gordeeva have worn some very stunning, original, cute and beautiful outfits, especially in Stars on Ice!!

I also loved Yuka Sato's yellow dress - it was one of my favorite programs where she skated to music by a Japanese composer.

Re: Favorite skating costumes

This has got to be the worst costume (if you want to call it that) in the history of skating.

I don't understand how Mishin could have dressed one of his skaters in such a thing. Poor Alexei, he was just a little boy and to be subjected to something like this. Gr-r-r makes me very angry.

Re: Favorite skating costumes

You type in this:

[i-m-a-g-e]HERE GOES THE EXACT URL OF THE PICTURE YOU WANT TO INSERT, WHICH SHOULD END IN .jpg OR .gif [/image] (you type in the word "image" without the hyphens--I had to insert them so you could see what I wrote). The word "image" is framed by the brackets: [] before your picture then framed by the brackets and a / afterwards: [/]

If you see a photo you like, right click on the mouse and look where it says PROPERTIES. Copy that into the memory EXACTLY, this is the url of that particular photo.

Geocities and several other web sites don't allow you to do this--the image will disappear from GoldenSkate with a day or two.

This is the easy way--Idle does it differently (and I think it's harder that way--sorry buddy!)

Make sure you click on EzCodes below this reply box (under Posting Options) or it won't work. There must be a check mark in that box.

Re: Favorite skating costumes

It's a bit technical, but here goes...You type in this HTML code:

<img src="___"

Then search the web for the image you'd like to use, right click on it, and then copy the web address from the gray window that pops up. Then you paste it in between the two quotation marks (above) finally, you fill in the size of the image which is listed right below the web address on the gray window, and finish it off with a > font. So the end result looks something like this:

<img src="<a href="http://www.skatinginc.com/Skaters/Nikodinov/Home/Personal/Russian Tea Room with Tara (2000)/3.jpg"">www.skatinginc.com/Skater...00)/3.jpg"</a> width=232 height=346>

Finally, and most importantly, you put a check mark in the little box that says "HTML" in the Posting Options section under your message. I'm not doing that here, because I wanted to give you an example of what your HTML code should look like.

In the next post (below) you will be able to view a glorious photo of Tara & Angela looking trës chíc while dining at the Russian Tea Room, which is what you get when you type in the above codes, AND put a check mark in the HTML box.

Re: Favorite skating costumes

Okay, because this thread is absolutely hilarious, I will forgive Spyralz for picking on Evgeni AGAIN. How can the Sex Bomb costume be bad? It's so small....:p (the costume, people, THE COSTUME) I also liked Alexander Abt's "attacking octopus" costume, though now I won't be able to watch that program without thinking of that. Yes, Dee, the one banana costume is bad, but go look at some of the other stuff on this thread, and you won't feel as bad. (I think Mishin has a thing for bananas, check out Evgeni's shirt in the Pasadena program).

The most beautiful costume is Evgeni's black Gypsy Dance costume.

I thought Ilia's giraffe thing was the worst, but then I saw some of the other suggestions, so now I'm not so sure.

Keep those pictures coming...

Cheers,

Laura :)

Re: and here's his other half

But can C3PO do a Biellman spin? I don't see him with that kind of flexibility. :p

I like the gold costume. It's very, erm, form fitting. ;)

cheers,

Laura :)

Re: You're Killing Me!

Ah, the memories! Ah, the "Who the hell thought THIS was a good idea?"

This goes back to page one, but Pasha looks like a birthday cake in that thing.

Denise Beillman gets the prize for the most consitently bad costumes. The Jolly Green Giant trumped Godzilla, sorry Idle.

As for "Alexei Yagudin, Jungle Banana Boy": What I heard was that Mishin that Yags was a no-way for a medal, so had prepared no exhibition program. So when Yags won the bronze, rather unexpectedly, apparently Mishin got some make-up and went to the local grocery story for a costume. Yags should have left Mishin just for doing THAT!

Costumes and Irina

Irina has an exceptionally difficult body type for the costume designers. The popular image of a skater is the long, lean Peggy Flemming type, but Irina's equally beautiful body just doesn't fit that popular image.

So, her costumer attempted to make her look long and lean. The results were good enough to be a small part of her rise the elite ranks of the sport.

So, I'm not certain I'd put her costumes into the "ugly" category. They are not among my favorites, to be sure, but I can see the effect they help to create.
