Happy Nancy-Got-Whacked Day!

This day in 1994 was the day someone played baseball with Nancy Kerrigan's kneecap. Without this incident, figure skating would not have enjoyed a huge surge of visibility that helped Michelle Kwan achieve her celebrity. All it took was the injury of one horse-faced skater and the disgrace of Miss Trailer Park skater.

Awww, I'm getting all sentimental. I'm going to celebrate by watching Tonya's '94 Nationals LP to "Jurrarsic Park." Skating to images of enormous dinosaurs that died out 50 million years ago--it was so moving, especially with Tonya's costume that had the cleavage cut out and filled in with nude Illusion fabric that went about down to her navel and almost out to her armpits. I get all wistful when I think of the Olympic team photo, with Nancy and Tonya sitting next to each other, smiling away, as if they were best buds.

I'm also going down to the local video arcade to play a commemorative game of "Whack-a-Mole." It's not the same as whacking a knee, but I think it's the thought that counts. I wonder if it will be noted on the nightly news?

Hmm, maybe i'll write to International Figure Skating mag and suggest that along with the date for SOI and nats include Nancy Knee Wacking Day.
Now, as if it wasn't enough that I had to go back to school today, I have a major science project that includes titrating calcium and putting graphs on a board while typing up an 8 page report. <span style="colorurple;font-family:georgia;font-size:x-small;">Ah, I remember the day well. I was in graduate school (for the first time...) getting a degree in creative writing. I'd written a novella about two American female figure skaters who weren't very nice to one another, and everyone said it was "unrealistic."

On this day, in 1994, my mom called and I was vindicated.

My classmates apologized...

Oh, it also featured a 14 year old who could jump but had no artistry...sometimes I scare myself...

In celebration of the day, I hung a piece of the broken lace that Tonya presented to the judges at Lillehammer on my xmas tree that I have yet to dismantle

Next year we should have a 10th anniversary party in honor of Nancy's knee and Tonya's tacky purple outfit -- geez, has it been that long ..10 years come and gone so fast, I might as well be dreamin' (yes, that's the old oprah opening)

speaking of oprah, Fetal, the "day in the life of an obese person" is to be re-aired tomorrow. Set your VCR!

what a cruel thread

i don't know what is meaner. calling nancy kerrigan a horse face or everybody ignoring that mean remark. i bet someone would of complained about this thread if it bashed the physical looks of a popular skater like mk or yags.

let see if i get this straight. is this like the gossip board? no rules here? we can make fun of unbecoming physical traits and its up to others to defend them or not? nothing is off-ground? not sasha's ears? plushy's nose? or mk's nose? that is a strange mentality but just so we're clear.

I went around for months with a signature that said Michelle Kwan was a man, and I only received three death threats and two lawsuits.

But anyways, if celebrities don't want to be insulted, they shouldn't expect to be exalted either. Celebrities put themselves out there, and we can only praise them? Like I said on another thread, if any celebrity is offended by my comments about them, they only need send me a picture of them crying or popping a vein over a computer screen, and I promise I will cease and desist and not use that picture for evil :evil: purposes.

By the way, Pai, what exactly is wrong with Sasha's ears, MK and Plushy's noses? What made you bring them up and not some other skater's other bodyparts? I guess it's ok to bring up physical qualities you don't like as long as you're chastising somebody else for doing the same, eh? That's called a paralipsis. Go look up the word in a decent dictionary.

For future reference, if my posts really offend you, please punch your monitor repeatedly in lieu of pestering me with your indignant and ill-conceived complaints.

Paigeinator,I'm glad someone else objects to the 'horsey-face' reference.Nancy was on People Magazine's 50 Most Beautiful People list.If some have a problem with Nancy's teeth,that's there problem.

Instead, offer graphic descriptions of how the opinion is bothering you. Are you getting hives? Please say yes.
