Men - Short Program - Notes from Rosaleen

I'm back in my seat and ready to go. The first group of men is on the ice for their warmup. THe stands are still pretty empty, especially the lower rows (more expensive seats). I'd say that only about 1/3 of the seats are filled, if even that. By the way, Mike Slipchuk & Viktor Petrenko got a big round of applause when they were introduced as the tech specialists for the event.

Please don't post in this thread (it's easier for me), use the thread for the event marked 'comments'. Thanks

And we'll be on our way in 1 minute

Notes Music: Malaguena red bolero style vest over black pants / opening strains of the very (shall I say, too) familiar music with a little chor / around for a 2footed possibly under rot 3a / and to the far end of the ice for a pretty good 3f3t combo / music picks up and the crowd is clapping along for the strt ftwrk whichi s quite nice / back to the far end of the rink for a 3z - not sure if it came right out of the footwork / combo spin is quite good with an A pos / into a back sit ch sit that could be lower but wasn't bad at all / O ftwrk has a pause for some chor 1/2 way through and then 3/4 of the way through, went well with the music / into a flysit to end the program that again could have been lower (and faster in this case) but was centered / He seems quite happy with that skate and does the flower girl's job for her in picking up something that was thrown on the ice / I didn't catch the replay of the axel to know if it was short rot or not / pb is 43.64

Notes Music: Chronologie II wearing black unitard with diag brown wavey design / a bit of chor at centre ice as the music starts / down towards me for a 3f / fly sit is well done / music is picking up a bit and to far end of ice for a 3z with both hands down turns into a 3t or maybe it was only a 2 / O ftwrk as music gets faster and louder is really well timed with it / 2a / combo spin is fast with nice sit pos - camel could be better / strt ftwrk really moves with music that is fetting even faster / sit ch sit with tuck bit of a struggle I think on the change of foot and to my eye he recentered the spin - don't know what the tech will do with that / he doesn't look all that happy as he heads off the ice / by the way - he's wearing a gold version of Michael Weiss's fancy blades / pb is 49.56

Notes Music: Tango from Cirque du Soleil wearing maroon velvet with gold mesh over top / I think it ruins his line / some nice chor to start and down to the far end of the ice for a 3f out of footwrk / back this way for a 3z 3t - not really steady on the landing of the z but clean / S ftwrk as music is less sticcatto - has a fair bit of one-foot work and matches music well / nice 2a / I thought I just saw the flying spin - camel with great pos / and now into the combo spin which is excellent - nice pos and he's really tall so it accents the positions / O ftwrk is chor right to the music / sit ch sit with tuck that speeds up / and a fist in the air as he takes his final pose k-- boy he is happy as he goes to collect a stuffed toy thrown on the ice. Now he comes to centre ice to take his bows -- I like this guy and did at Jr worlds as well / his pb is 52.97

Notes Music: March of the Toreadors by Bizet (from Carmen) wearing red velvet top with epalats (can never spell that) on shoulders / music starts slowly and he's around for a 2f3t (intended 3f3t) / 3a fell - think fully rot though / now music gets into the familiar march and the crowd is clapping along enthusistically / fly sit is well done I think - missed part of it checking out the stands / O ftwrk is well timed to the music / popped z to a single / music is speeding up now for the strt ftwrk which is well done and failry difficult and right with music / back sit tuck inside edge to front sit / into a cam sit back cam sit to inside edge to end the program / both of the final spins were well done / the mistakes on the jumps are going to really cost him / pb is 58.75

The second group is on the ice for warm-up and I thought I'd fill you in on the crowd situation -- aside from the centre section across from the judges (which is the ISU & VIP section) and a few pockets in the lower rows, the stands are filling up quite nicely. The upper rows are the fullest with the most vocal fans !! (the cheaper seats which are filled with the REAL fans <G>)

Notes Music: Harlen Nocturne blues wearn black sparkly tshirt and black pants / introduced to great cheers from the fans and his initial movment as the sultry music starts are whistles & cat-calls / he pops his axel to a single with a smattering of applause from some very unknowledgable fans / down the ice for a 3z3t / flycam is good / back down the ice for a 3f that he falls on / strt line steps and I'm swaying in my seat to the music as the crowd claps - oops steps are well done -- getting off track here with the music / combo spin has some nice pos and ends as music fades / O steps are to the music / and into a cam chg cam with catch knee pos / well received by the crowd but I suspect he isn't very happy about that skate / pb is 57.60

Notes Music: Carmina Burana, Liberty wearing black with a couple of white diag bands across chest & back with some black semi sheer / some chor to the usual opening of the music / 4s3t had to hop a bit out of the toe but the sal was clean as far as I could see / some chor and then into a spread eagle and out for a nice 3a / into a back cam sit leg in front into a front sit to inside edge - nice spin, but shouldn't do the leg in front pos - not attractive / strt steps as music softens before starting to build again - steps are ok but seem a little slow to me / into a fly sit as music softens again / down the ice for a 3f that has a bit of a shakey landing but seems clean from here / music is building again into the familiar refrain for the O ftwrk that matches quite well into a sit change sit to end the program and boy is he happy - fists in the air and now I notice that the front part of his costume opens to show maybe a sun??? / pb is 67.23 they just showed his coaches reaction to his 4s and boy was she happy !!! YES YES YES you could see her mouthing

Notes Music: She wasn’t to Move, Breathe / wearing black leather short sleeved top / starts kneeling on one knee & mimics the heart beat of the music / very quickly music changes and the crowd is really clapping along with the beat / nice 3a / 3z that I think is 2ft and he is very low on landing leg but manages to pull it off into a clean 3t / into flysit as the music ends and we wait for the next piece to start / it starts with a bang and the crowd is clapping as he does his O ftwrk that I didn't pay enough attention to / 3f at far end of ice is good and into a combo spin / music picks up again and the the crowd is really clapping as he does some fairly decent strt steps and into his change foot spin that again I saw, but didn't see -- sorry / the music ends with the same heartbeats that it started with / great response from the crowd, in fact they're responding very well to each of the skaters / pb is 58.40

Notes Music: Rhapsody on a Theme of Paganini wearing light blue blousey top with darker blue sash effect / starts at centre ice facing me - some nice chor to the familiar soft starting music and it builds a bit for a 2a - nicely done, but it didn't look like he was even going for a triple / 4t fall / flycam is lovely with nice layover pos / a bit of chor and into O ftwrk that might be a bit simple but flows perfectly with music / footwrk into a 3z / back sit ch sit with nice tuck on front / S ftwrkagain flows with music but doesn't reach the boards on either side of the rink / combo spin with layback on front into back scratch to end as music fades / polite applause from the crowd / pb is 67.55 and he has 30.12 from the Q's /
